This entire 2nd block of Sun and moon sets is incredible and genuinely rivals the runs the DP and EX era. This was my final set of competitive play prior to Brilliant Stars. I absolutely love this era so much. Currently working SM-LOT gauntlet. I also think this era being so great makes me hate the tag team era even more.
I'm surprised but relieved to find that there are others like me who actually loved SM up until around the point that Tag Team GX were first introduced. I was living and breathing PTCG when this set dropped lol. I think I have the most nostalgia for Unbroken Bonds, it was the only set I bothered to fully completed on Pokemon Trading Card Game Online back when that still existed.
the Sun & Moon to Lost Thunder format is an incredibly popular retro format played by many. I definitely recommend giving it a look if you want some nostalgia
Doubtless you already have a shortlist, but I wanted to mention it anyway, I'd love to see similar videos on Plasma Storm, Dark Explorers, Roaring Skies and Paldea Evolved
I'm surprised you didn't mention Typhlosion. Maybe I was just bad at the game as a kid but it was a pretty good single prize attacker when I played against my friend who used it because it was able to use double colorless thanks to its ability
4:17 it is a crime that your Ditto Cube and its rules aren't posted on cube Koga. I would love to learn more about it, but I'm not sure if it's worth grinding several hour-plus long videos to try and figure out the list. (Maybe you just weren't aware you were committing a felony.)
@Charmaster04 gosh i sure hope there isn't whimsicast's ditto cube with a slightly outdated list that was posted on cubekoga years ago, that would be atrocious
@@WhimsicottTCG Searched "Kyle" instead of "Whimsicast" and found it this time. Guess I just didn't search hard enough. Looks good! The one card I'm not sold on is ancient trait Porygon-Z, since the lack of on-drop evolution effects seems to imply it's mainly in there for the second attack. Which cards have been changed since you last updated it?
I played the TCG as a kid, but haven't played since 2014, so these might be noob questions. What the heck is the "Lost Zone"? Like, was it a thing way back in the day or was it a post-2014 addition to the game? Also, where does the Lost Zone come from in the lore of Pokemon? It seems weird that a bunch of normal ass Pokemon like Skiploom and Trumbeak are tapping into this ethereal magic to attack with.
@williamtrowbridge4868 Lost Zone was a mechanic introduced in 2009's Platinum set. All cards that go to the Lost Zone are gone forever. It was, at first, used as a way to disrupt the opponent harder with the effects of attacks but eventually entire strategies came out with Lost Thunder that made use of Lost Zone to function
I wish Pokemon never power creeped past Lost thunder..Everything after has felt too overtuned...I don't think anyone would disagree when I say that having 300 HP Pokemon being prominent every block is really unfun.
It's not really the numbers of the HP that matters, it's really in how they design the effects, damage, and HP to work in tandem. Tag Team era really accelerated the effect power creep with attacks accelerating 3 energy from the deck and being easily usable on the first turn of the game with Welder or Koko Prism/Thunder Mountain. Sword & Shield era upped the damage with 2 Prize Basics regularly outputting 250+ damage on the first turn of the game. VSTAR era once again put forward a ton of effect creep with Lugia and Palkia VSTAR in particular. SVI output power creep in the speed of the game again with Basic Pokemon and upped the damage of Stage 2s to match the power creep that happened with Basics in SWSH
From a collectors stand point this was the worst era of pokemon i for real thought the game was dying. Untill tag team. Then we got Swsh which was ass for like 2 years till we got alts

So nostalgic for this set. I'll fondly remember the sum lot format forever
I like these videos cause they show cards that might be good now in GLC :)
@@colel8619 glad they get you some value, rven if it wasn't the intention
Actually working on a breakthrough - lost thunder set of decks right now. While it was never a format it has been fun to play.
Blacephalon with max elixir and zoro control with puzzle are terrifying thoughts
@@WhimsicottTCG Yes 😈
Granbull the goat deck for me. Felt like I was playing chess while my opponents were playing checkers.
Still one of the most fun decks in the game
@bernieswim really fun deck. Wish they'd bring back this gimmick in a successful form agajn
The last set I really played in. Stopped right before tag teams came out, back now around when TWM was released
Truly one of the best sets of the Sun and Moon block! Tied with Guardians rising!
For sure! That's why I've covered them both
Ah... happy days.
The game for sure. I much prefer the newer art though
Lost Thunder my goat. gave me Blowns my beloved

@@quicksilver3263 there is a video on a Black & White set coming, but it is not Dark Explorers
@WhimsicottTCG looking forward to it!
Very good block and set
37:37 So the video seems to wind back while Whimsicast is talking about an attack called Turn Back Time? Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
Hey do you have the list of that Ditto prism Cube you mentioned? 👉👈
@@zukrad634 ill post it on twitter later today. Follow me there

@RainyGhost190 I've seen a friend of mine try to make it work in a similar way, but it was never viable enough to be even tier 3 playable
