Great info video! As always! Thanks!
I'm holding out for the next Gen 2 cylinder twin turbo.
🤣🤣🤣
Same but on the 5th gen non turbo
they have to go to quad turbo to maintain the power when they drop to 2 cylinder.
@@tsinh89 🤣😂🤣
I'm not paying $15,000 more
the new green remind the 3rd gen 4runner green. I always been fan that color since it's rare color on cars.
Same. Digging the color
I like that 'Toyota Song.."I'm already There, take a Look Around... Can You Feel, the Love that We Share?...."
For the reasons you mentioned, more leg room, rear vents, plus a secured hatch, I'd take the 4 Runner and am actually interested depending on price. The Tacomas can get pretty steep depending on trim and options. I'll be interested to see how they price the 4 Runner.
Same here Joe 👍 and if something longer needed to stick out the back, that awesome roll down window allows for that much more space to carry stuff
100,000
and also the build quality as well, since the taco is made in Mexico and the 4runner continuing in tahara
Have a 4th gen Tacoma off road that I love and can't wait to check out the new 4runner next year to go with my Tacoma!
Both are so nice. I've also had a 5th gen 4Runner, and a second gen Tacoma (1998 Tacoma). Now I have the second gen tundra. I'm still debating between the new 4Runner and newer Tacoma as as my daily and overland rig. It's such a hard decision haha. I'm loving both. Love ya video and comparison.
Nice. The tacoma definitely needs rear a/c vents and the arm rest. Like the locking fuel door..finally.
Thanks Chloe
Thank you. This is really informative. I just wonder how much each vehicle weighs so I could see each would perform. That based on the fact that they have the same engine. I’ve wanted to see what the new FourRunner looks like .
Looking forward to some test drive reviews, especially the lower trim non-hybrids.
I am all in for the new 4runner. I am optimistic that itll be an awesome family adventure vehicle to make a bunch of memories in.
Do you know when they will be released, early agust??? Also where could we see the 4runner in person
If you are in US, you should enjoy Tacoma 😉 I see more sense in comparing the 4Runner and the Land Cruiser 250.
They're all valid comparisons. Since the 4R and Tacoma (and the same trim was available here for both vehicles) are so closely related, it IS nice to see the detail differences. Yes, the 4R and LC also need to be compared.
Any idea at what point in the fall it will be released
Crazy how much smaller the backseat is on the gen6 4runner vs the 5th gen.
So glad i bought a 5th gen .
It's apparent the Tacoma is more single driver-centric (tight rear seat space, no seat back pocket behind the driver's seat, no seat memory controls, etc.), whereas the 4Runner can serve as the family go-getter.
2025 Sienna Platinum? Or 2025 4Runner Platinum?
The Sienna is a hybrid and does have AWD.
I currently drive a 2021 Highlander Platinum Hybrid. My lease is up in Sept, and I am looking to change vehicles.
I like the trail hunter just waiting to see all the bugs worked out
Tumble back seats seem to take up an enormous amount of space
Kinda of sad what Toyota did with the 6th gen 4runner. They essentially made it into a Tacoma suv the front of these vehicles is so uncannily identical . I think Toyota should had dug deeper into the 4runner heritage and implement design cues from previous gens maybe make the front look more like a 3rd gen with square headlights or something. I just liked the curved rear glass they brought back from the 2nd gens
I’m so disappointed with the new 4runner. It’s basically a Tacoma with an enclosed back and likely will be way more expensive.
How does the horn beep
That looks tight😂😂
Shout out to Jake! That guy installed my Dobinson MRRs on my Tacoma.
if they had kept the V6's they would have been perfect
The 4 is more powerful than the 6 ever was.
But not a reliable
@@SW-sk6po
Not entirely true. It has higher top end torque , but that's gained with the turbos. The power band with turbo engines is more narrow typically.
So it may have a higher peak, but it will come with a narrower power and and the negatives of a turbo.
As the owner of a 2012 Tacoma and a 2016 4Runner I can say I will hold on to both until they fall apart. I will also say that I expect to be one of the first owners of the new 4Runner.
All the people complaining about the death of the v8 or v6 are in denial of the changing environmental regulations.
Both new Toyota vehicles will still last many more years than anything out of Detroit.
I have high hopes for the 4cylinder turbo longvity because I want the smallest most efficient engine possible that will do the job and it seems like the taco guys are saying power is great.
Power will likely be a bit better than the 5th gen 4runner but fuel efficiency won’t be too much better. A little but not as much as people would hope for.
All these opinions based on what you have “seen” on the internet or heard as rumor. The majority of you do not own a new Tacoma and no one owns the new 4Runner. I have 7000 miles on my 24 Tacoma with 2K of that in the Rockies in Montana and the back roads around Glacier. It has been solid. 19-20 mpg through the mountains. Only oil changes so far. My son wants to trade me for his 23 Tacoma. That is actual fact. I come here because Chloe does a good job and I keep an open mind until I actually experience the vehicle. I am considering a new 4Runner to replace an existing vehicle. Keep on doing what you do Chloe.
How different is fit & finish between the two since one is assembled in Mexico vs the other in Japan? Is it a night & day difference?
The 4R is still pre-production, so it wouldn't 100% representative.
Hi, both at the show were pre-production models so unfortunately at this time, it’s hard to say
Is there a trim that come with a 3rd row seats?
I think you can have 3rd row seats option in the Limited trim
Does every trim come with the air compressor? What trims come with the speaker? Like, price aside, this is the ultimate MTB vehicle!
I believe the Trailhunter will be the only trim that comes with it, although I would imagine other trims could be optioned out with one!
@@ChloeKuo After writing this and doing some research you are correct, it seems like its just the trailhunter. Im sure that'll be the most difficult to get! :P
Those Tacommas are breaking down like crazy. I would avoid at all cost, unless you want to be without your truck for 2 to 3 months because they don't have parts.
Refering to the seats on the 3rd Gen, I remember that I can sit and drive forever without getting tired in my 2016. I have the 2023 now and it seems that I get tired and constantly have to shift around in my seat. Plus I get sleepy. Maybe its age or Toyota did something to the seat. 🤷🏻♂️
The high load floor in the 4Runner would drive me insane. Kind of a deal breaker for me.
How tall are you? (for back row seat size comparisons) 😁
I swear to God judging by the videos alone that new 4Runner looks a lot more cramped than the 5th gen. Why does that rear seat legroom look so small?
Lmfao it is. Don’t understand how they made the car bigger yet the legroom is crap
Are they ever going to show the 4Runner SR5? 😅
couldnt tell you which one i'd drive. not a fan of the short bed. tacoma. would like to drive a 4runner. have a 2016 tacoma sr. 6' bed truck. access cab. have a good day boss
My 2010 5th Gen SR5 4Runner is in ways more lux than what you are describing for 2025. I have incredibly comfortable seats with a more chair like seating position, and I have driven nearly 250K with zero fatigue on very long trips. I have power seats for driver and passenger. My rear seats don’t tumble, so I could remove just the seat cushions for more modularity, storage, and for six plus feet of sleeping length, while also keeping my dogs behind the seat backs when driving. Plus my entire cargo area is very flat. I have two AC 120v outlets. So It sounds like they reduced some standard amenities in the Runner and upgraded the Taco. I’ll stick with my dialed and modded Runner, thank you😃
I wondered about that. The rise in the second row eliminates car configurations. The hype about the hybrid engines is crap. At least for sure in the Tacoma. The figures show only about a 1-2 mpg more and a one tenth of a sec faster in the 0-60 test. Not worth the $7,300 upcharge for the hybrid version. That plus the fact that the hybrid battery loses max charge over time. This would mean the 2mpg would be negated in about two years of use. I base this on my 2022 Platinum Hybrid AWD Highlander. Used to get 35 mpg city and hwy. Now it loses 2-3 mpg. And yes, I have the same nickel hydride battery.
I saw this 4Runner at overland expo west, I even saw Chloe there that day, anyway I honestly thought the 4Runner looks worse in person and oddly I thought the prado 250 which they had there looked better in person. 4Runner back seat in new generation is definitely smaller than the 5th gen and the hunp in the cargo area is a lot bigger
❤❤❤
I guess no sleeping comfortably in the back of the 4runner
Chloe just get the 4runner 😊
As a long time Toyota owner, including 5 4Runners from the 3rd, 4th and 5th generation 2 of which we currently own, I am exceptionally disappointed with the 6th generation 4Runner. There is nothing to get excited about with the new model. It looks like a Tacoma from the B pillar forward and dropping the tried and true V6 in place of an over stressed 4 cylinder turbo is a big mistake. The interior is straight out of a Tacoma and taking so much cargo space for the battery is another what were they they thinking. The 4Runner has historically been unique and distinct. This is not. This is no longer a 4Runner, they should have renamed something new. I do like the rear quarter glass nod to the 2nd generation but that is about it. The rest, is a exceptional disappointment.
I owned a 2008 Urban Runner and currently a 2016 Trail. Both are great vehicles but underpowered. I lost all interest in the 6th gen. I won't pay that kind of money for a 4 cylinder in 5,000 lb vehicle. It's subjective, but it looks worse than the 5th gen and reminds me of the Nissan Xterra, which is probably a better vehicle.
Me gusta Runner. Wendy
Well if they weren't so high on the price, then I would get one.
They both look fun. I may stick with my 5th gen, but that’s only because of not needing any of the new stuff. 👍🤪🏳️🌈

I don’t think the height will fit larger dog kennels anymore. It’s too short. The Land Cruiser is a few inch taller and has 2-3 inches on the new 4R in interior height but it’s actually a couple inches shorter in interior height when compared to the current 4R, which means this interior height will be far shorter than the previous gen. If this is a overlander, this will create interior volume issues?
Additionally, the hybrid engine has a rear warning that there can’t be more than 150lbs in top of the trunk floor over the batteries? How do you build anything out???
IN the 4R, there will also be non-hybrid models, which get back a much lower rear deck.
@@guentherwilke2055true but it’ll still be overall shorter from the previous gen regardless of the battery or not, I think. Overall the interior volume shrink while the exterior increased to accommodate the battery. I’m just concerned if I buy the new one, there will be a limited version that has full time 4x4 without the hybrid battery but that’s probably doubtful. I was hoping the interior volume would inc, not dec.
so no 3rd row sitting option looks like. no bueno
I picked up the new Tacoma back in April and love the new style and features. The fact that Toyota decided to keep the 25’ 4Runners interior the same as the Tacomas is genius. I also own a 23’ 4Runner and find myself forgetting where controls are which pulls my eyesight away from the road while driving. Having the same interior in both vehicles means that I can jump out of one, and into another without feeling like I’m in a different car. I’ll be trading in my 4Runner once the new ones become available.
I was going to wait until 2026-2028 to buy the redesigned Tacoma TRD Off Road until I found out that Toyota was dropping the proven, reliable and durable 3.5L Naturally Aspirated V6, so I bought one of the last 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the premium and technology pkgs.
At my age I plan on driving my 23 TRD until I die.
I’m quite sure that my wife will still be using my Tacoma to plow the 5-7 feet of snow off our private road and driveway until she passes away too.
Toyota been making hybrids and ev forever, the same powertrain is in Lexus no problems for years. Comes with 10 year warranty also
@@xecidex Hmmm, I didn’t say Anything about the Hybrids or EVs, and Lexus doesn’t make a pickup.
Same here. I'm getting a little long in the tooth. I don't buy new trucks every 3-5 years and wanted my last truck. Didn't want to take a chance on the complete new re-design. Once I spotted the TRDOR in Lunar Rock and was able to get an MSRP deal last year I jumped on it. No regrets.
@@jimf.625 I was looking for 3 different color choices:
White, Barcelona Red or Lunar Rock.
Mine is White with black leather interior.
I remember the proven 4.0 in 2015 when they announced the 3.5 for 2016
no leg room in the back
Yeah, releasing a lot and recalling a lot
*Honda Pilot: “Ok Toyota 4Runner you can copy my homework but don’t make it too obvious…”
It does look BAass i have nothing against it just gotta wait a few years
I bought a ridgeline instead because I was able to flip up the back bench and let my dog have the entire space.
😅😅
👊👍
Snorkel?
headlights are really getting smaller these days huh
Why is the cameraman so far away lol
Hardly any rear leg space in the back for both trucks. No thanks!
I wish the new Land Cruiser had a version without the battery and a third row.
... with a 1GR/6spd, like the utility grade 300 series.
I live in a mother rocks
The elephant in the room for the Tacoma is the storage space used for straps or tools has been replaced by a battery that nobody asked for. Where does the "experts" at Toyota suggest we put those things...
I've been driving Toyota trucks exclusively for almost 40 years. I would never buy a Toyota after 2020. Too many problems. I'll be keeping my 2016 Tundra DC 4x4 until I die.
No thanks to that back seat battery
Are these having Engine Problems?
Toyota is going more upscale.. Those Crown Cars are a change from Current Markets..
Seems like They had You in Mind, when Making this Vehicle and Options?
They're not even out yet. How could they be having engine problems?
Its needs twenty speakers and two woof
I hope they’re not killing the reliability on the 4Runner, like they did on the Tacoma and Tundra…
I guess you heard about the Tacoma transmission overheating
Ford is making such a HUGE mistake by not bringing over the Ford Everest.
5th gen 4runner is still the best
Both seem insanely cramped.
“ Sad” Toyota cannot figure how to make the back seat with more space…
Let say Tacoma makes a 5 1/2 bed longer frame) and create two-3 inch more leg room…plus the 51/2 bed will balance the looks more equal…
That’s what the full size truck for !😂😂😂 😝 if you over 6 feet and have car seats in the back, mid size truck is not for you ! 😊😊😊
@@andyhuang7526 NO! Its entirely reasonable to expect a midsize truck to have the same legroom as the SUV version. The difference in width and weight to a fullsize truck matter, and plenty of people don't want one. Toyota could offer the LWB version with a longer C-pillar (like in a Ram mega-cab) and 5.5" bed. Would be a total win for me.
5th gen 4runner seating postion is better than the 3rd gen tacoma.
Never buy the first generation of a new build. There's already a massive recall🤯.
I bought a ridgeline instead because I was able to flip up the back bench and let me dog have the entire space.
5th Gen 4Runner > 6th Gen
4 runner is a "tacoma suv" version
It has always been like that
@@TopSecretAsiantwhat are you talking about? The 4.0 5th gen 4Runner is nowhere near the 3rd gen Tacoma. 4Runner is leaps and bounds better
“Interesting”, meaning ‘disappointing’ I’m guessing.
Nice, too bad its a million dollars or might as well be at that price.
That 4runner is dusty af inside.. looks like my 4th gen haha
Yeah buddy, I'm sure it looks the same as your 4th gen LOL
@@terrynichol577 in terms of the dust, yes.
Toyota simping for the Toyota simps!
The 2024 Tacomas already have a recall & another coming & they are breaking down. So the 4 runner is probably right behind it. All that money for junk
4Runner got better too.
I think the tacoma got better....higher, better seats, more technology, and 4 cylinder plus turbo charger.
😂😂😂😂
All their new vehicles are a trainwreck plagued with recalls. Fawk that!
Sweet gal…but a T cheerleader. However, we’ve all gotta make a living👍🏼
Toyota needs to get back to their roots. AFFORDABLE, Dependable, Simple trucks….. until then, I keep my “old” Toyotas….
Toyota, get rid of this hybrid engine options! That are not reliable, and the probability of these batteries combusting is not worth the liability of destroying the vehicle or burn down someone's home.
Overpriced Tacoma with A LAWNMOWER ENGINE !
I wish they would STOP comparing the 4Runner to the Tacoma! I hate that little Tacoma pickup truck!!!
Why is there a 4-runner in your garage? I feel like we're being groomed...
Way Overpriced.
Finally got the chance to check out the Gen 4 Tacoma in the real world this weekend…. I’m sorry… I am horribly disappointed in Toyota for the direction they are going with Tacoma, Tundra, and 4 Runner. I can’t believe that these auto makers are bowing at the alter of the environment-woke and killing the reliable V6 and V8 motors. And even worse… are giving up storage to put batteries in these vehicles to make them hybrid. I like the bells and whistles on the Gen 4 Tacoma… but 1) paying an extra $10K and loosing the V6 is an automatic non-starter. The cheapest Tacoma on my dealer’s lot in GA was $44K and that I believe was only an SR5. I have an ‘18 TRD Sport DCLB that brand new was under $35K. Come on Toyota. Dump this enviro-woke crap and go back to the better system and drop your insane prices back to normal.
Change sure is scary!
Still the same useless backseat on the Tacoma 😂
That is if the driver seat is all the way back
First of all, if you over 6 feet, you will get the full size truck, second if you have car seats in the back you also need a full size truck ! So, stop complaining !😂😂😂😂 😝
@@andyhuang7526his complaints are valid…your rationale is subjective 😏
Only thing the back seat sits are my groceries from Costco 👊🏼..
It’s actually not as bad as you might think. I’ve taken folks on trips using the back seats and there’s enough leg room. Wouldn’t wanna do more than a few hours sitting back there, but it’s definitely not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Baby seats fit just fine as well. Y’all are talkin out your butts!
No thanks. I'll keep my V8 4runners.
Those black fenders are ugly
Yup how they thought shiny black plastic fender flares is a good idea for an off-road truck is beyond me.
Overpriced no matter what. Tacoma back seat still awful.
