    One of the reasons why cars are so old in Finland is that cars middle age here is about 12 years old. And many times Google streetview images are 10 or more years old in smaller cities/middle of nowhere. So when you combine both of those numbers you see why cars looks old here in Finland. Google does not update their images often here. Example in one of your videos, you were in Jyväskylä. I almost didn’t notice that cos pictures was 12 years old and city looks totally different now (lot of big buildings ect.) :D

    White lines painted on the roadsides in Finland are continuos. Sweden has these on/off lines on the otherhand.

    Here's a tip between Sweden or Finland if you didn't know it already: On second round (around 3:50) and on fifth round (around 9:40) You see those white lines on the side of the roads are not continuous, they are like short stripes. In Finland, you wont see that kind of lines, I'm pretty sure. They are always one solid line on the sides of the road.

    That 4th round in Helsinki where show car (white Volvo) license plate and you said interesting. That is old finnish plate before EU so thats why it can look a like weird and not have blue FIN sign in left.

    Finland have those red buildings everywhere, cause that paint is homemade=free. Basically it's boiled red clay, dirt. When you take a look at Finnish countryside, you can see the main house painted with light colour and buildings surrounding it are red. There is SAUNA one of them, maybe old barn and car shelter.

    • @vyznev
      @vyznev 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So does Sweden too, though. In English that paint is literally called "Falu red" after Falun, Sweden, where the pigment originally comes from.

    • @alloverthemap23

      Used to be like this ages ago. These days homemade paint is pretty rare. Those who do that, does it just because of traditions.

    Oh my, I've probably walked past that spot in Helsinki, but still went to Sweden.. But the fourth one was actually somewhat distinguishable, because the of the ditch coming from the forest. The forest was actually a drained mire, which are way more common in Finland. We used to drain a lot of mires for forestry in 60s and the 70s.

  • @jukkasillanpaa8459
    @jukkasillanpaa8459 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wau! As earlier mentioned, you are really good at recognizing latitudes!! 👍👍👍 There were road markings mentioned, as well: solid side lines in Finland, dotted ones in Sweden. Åland / Ahvenanmaa (FIN) is an exception. Roads are quite red toned in Åland. You recognizied the yellow bus. Local traffic buses are really yellow at Turku area.The one you noticed was a tourist bus. The road in the middle of forests could have been almost anywhere.

    Round 4. There is a distinctive building visible to the east, probably well known to most Helsinkians. The former barracks of Helsinki Motorized Company, it has been converted to a grocery store and residences, I think. Another pro Finland tip: the yellow bus belongs to the bus company Vainion Liikenne which operates mainly in the area between Helsinki and Turku.

    Me, Swedish. So many times in Finland I think it's Sweden. I'm thinking the two are the most similarly looking countries in the world when a citizen of either can't tell them apart. Yes, ofc there are differences, but outside of bigger cities they look awfully similar. Norway and Denmark are so much easier to distinguish from Swe.

  • @Aquelll
    @Aquelll 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The bus colors in Finland tell you which city you are in. Turku and Oulu are pretty easy because the buses are pink and white and yellow and white respectively. Tampere and Helsinki are easy to mix because they are light blue and white (Helsinki) or dark blue and white (Tampere). The city people in Tampere and Helsinki just have no imagination at all... 😏

    I am from Sweden. You can know the country by looking at the road. Sweden has dotted marks on the side of the road and finland has a filled line. And if its yellow in the middle you are for sure in Finland. But the you need to know where in the countries and thats really hard even for me ;)

      Finland is changing the yellow "spärrlinjer" (no passing lines) to white. Streetview is usually old, so there the lines are mostly yellow.

      @@justy303 I have recognized that Åland is a funny "hybrid" of Finland and Sweden on the roads. There is eg. 90km/h limits that doesn't exist in continental Finland and Åland has Swedish font on many road signs. You have very nice islands and I will come next summer again.

    I live in Finland and got all to the right countries. First one was easy because there were signposts visible and I got 4998 pts. On second round I knew that we were in Sweden because I saw a pennant in blue and yellow. Location was just impossible to know. Third round was a pure guess because unpaved road in the middle of forest without anything but trees is impossible too. Fourth round gave me 4999 pts because I recognized the place. On last round I knew that we were in Sweden because the border lines were dashed and in Finland they are solid. But unrecognizable location.
