Interesting thoughts, including the obvious idea that the Spurs can’t just keep drafting lots of players each year but, at some point, they need to make a move - trade draft picks for key veterans. I think that this next off-season they will be ready to make those moves.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they kicked the ball until next offseason or trade deadline. Wembys ascension makes that feel long but it is spurs we are talking about
@ Yeah but, “Wemby’s ascension” is a pretty big deal. They already added CP3 and Barnes to expedite the team’s progress, so why not try to grab a big star - or more - before next season?
@. You’re mentioning what mavericks did early on In Luka’s career where they are antsy to make a move. Like most teams would do. - a star like you are referencing is going to get max money whether by a new or current contract, By the time those two gel, Wemby will be set for extension and boom with new second apron, the team will be capped out for impact star players, more or less. You 100% read to roll the dice on that hypothetical matchup to work in his second year? ?Wemby is 20. Even if he leads teams to playoffs, he’s not leading his team to finals. I, like the spurs front office don’t see the rush, where anxious or casual fans feel like they need to make a move so they can be a playoff team and bring down big picture ceiling.
@ I think when it makes sense they will do stuff and I’m not saying don’t make moves rn. The vets were great but did they hamstring the spurs? If i had to guess they will try to land high picks this draft and when this current team gets too expensive they will trade players like Sochan or vassel for stars/cap space as Wemby gets his extension. Also just look at who won the last 3 titles… Celtics, nuggets, warriors. All those teams drafted all their main core and played a bit of a long game. They didn’t blow their wad the year Jokic, curry, or Tatum got good because they “needed to make a move.”
you shouldn't touch Castle, he's the one with the best ball handling, he can easily penetrate defenses, a bit like Maxey. He'd be a bigger Parker. You've already got two pieces of the puzzle, so don't take him apart. He just needs to improve his shooting to average over 20 points, and he's comfortable on defense. As Barkley says, the Spurs need two guys in addition to Victor above 20 points to make it to the play-offs, and then look who'll get you to the NBA Finals.
Agreed with what you are saying in this video, we have to do something soon, I mean really soon, we have 2 first round picks next year, maybe more, but not likely, and second round picks also, and we can't draft all of them and expect to keep. We still have 1st round picks fighting for minutes now, Welsey and Branham are not even playing. Most of our players are under contract thru next year, so roster spots are kind of limited. I personally don't understand why we aren't in the market in for a big move, the numbers don't add up for us to draft all the picks we have!
They might be but just quietly. Not many moves out there that make a ton of sense. I feel they are waiting for a bug swing. Altho I like the idea of getting in the can Johnson race.
They still can trade the pick like what they did with Min but they still have a lot to spend. So they should think of how and à big trade is the best option. For Fox, Kaminga or another player. 4 first rounds picks will definitely interest GS and SK.
David Robinson was dominant his first three seasons. Then David's back got hurt and was still really good but definitely not as dominant. I've noticed Victor increasingly supporting his lower back. We shouldn't expect Wemby to carry the team to the Finals, like we expected with David Robinson. It took bringing in more talent starting with Duncan. I hope the Spurs approach this the same way, rather than see Wemby go five years without success.
My other concern is how frail wemby is playing against other 5s. Id like the Spurs to make some bigger moves this offseason and get into the windows of championships
David’s back got hurt after he returned from injury in late 96. That was his 7th season, not his 3rd. His situation was also unique. No one really understood about core strength back then, and a strong as he was, he had no core. They did a test where he stood, then pivoted down to pick it up off the floor. Needing balance, and having poor leverage, he couldn’t. As slender as Wemby is, he probably had a better core in that viral video that broke when he was 16 than David ever did.
Thanks for saying what no one else is saying. It makes no sense for the Spurs to draft more than one player in the first round. They stockpiled all those picks to have a chance at a franchise player. But they already have one.
Thanks for saying what no one else is saying. It makes no sense for the Spurs to draft more than one player in the first round. They stockpiled all those picks to have a chance at a franchise player. But they already have one. So they need to turn those picks into veteran help for Wemby now and picks after Wemby signs his extension. Fox is a good fit because they can sign and trade him in the 2026 offseason before Castle takes over at PG.
2025 draft is the start of a sincere maxing out. seem to need an outstanding PG and a great Big since VW loves to play peripherally so much of the game. SG and SForward are your shooters+defensive needs. Anyone in those slots who can't do both are probably not going to be on this team after 2025 draft. and Juan Nunex is coming in...
I suspect that the team will add one more piece from the draft. MOve out some players to trades. It will take time to finalize the core of this young team. Every year the team will asses what assets they will need to surround vector wembanyama a championship team.
I'd like the team to bring in 2-3 low cost/investment, veteran contracts. A Cam Johnson or a Lonzo Ball tier signing to help incrementally improve the teams performance and mentor young talent. The 2025 draft class is deep with promising talent that the Spurs could nurture into productive assets. My personal preference is building through the draft; mortgaging away your future for a "star" backfires more often than not. The Timberwolves are still conveying picks to the Jazz for Rudy Golbert. Too much risk too early for a core (INCLUDING VICTOR) that needs to get better individually and collectively.
The situation with all the picks we have for 2025 is that those picks are never going to happen. Hawks will not be in the lottery, Bulls may end up in the lottery top 10 and hornet are to bad that their pick will not convey. And if spurs continue or take a little up in the standing, they will be out of lottery.... hope they trade in a near future
2025 is a deep draft class with talent up and down the 1st into the 2nd round. The Atlanta pick not being in the lottery isn't the end of the world and if Chicago can't offload their large contracts, there's a good chance the Bulls pick conveys as well.
Spurs dropped the ball by not picking Zach Edey instead of Rob Dillingham. Edey is phenomenal and could have been a spurs corner stone for the next decade. Bad decision.
It all depends on where that unprotected 2031 pick end up. Historically the timberwolves have had high picks :) - and it might arrive when the Spurs are a top contender.
By 2031 Gobert wont be there and Randle wont be their either. Who knows Timberwolves might even move Ant because they are going backwards after going to the west finals last year. Timberwolves and Kings have 2 of the wrost organizations in the league thats why the Spurs made that trade with both of them. If you banking on the Timberwolves actually being a good team by 2031 you will be disappointed.
Edey would of been great but I think it boils down to the end Result for the Spurs. If they can build a contender in the next like 2 years, than once they are in the thick of that could have some nice assets to make another move to stay in contention. I get the frustration tho

Lmfao, come on. I like Castle, but the likelihood he's even remotely close to Jokic or Luka is extremely unlikely. Those are 2 top 5 players in the league and immediately have you contending for championships.

Spurs stockpiling to insure they get Wemby lil brother.
Maybe!
Rc, Holt, and others are really involved, I trust the Spurs owners and the front office.
I wouldn't be aposed to Spurs reaching out to Blazers Simmons for Johnson ,McDaniels and 2nd round pick.
Trading vessel would be crazy

Spurs must intensify the AREA51 tandem while they have opportunity, while CP3 is already too experienced to adjust...

Add Divincenzo and Siakam

Wemby if the one that makes the calls now ,on who leaves and who stays and performs with him . He’s our new franchise player .
Vassell and Sochan for Cade Cunningham.
Vassell, Keldon and some picks for Fox, Sochan is literally our second option right now lol
@Yomi4220 Sochan is always hurt, I'm keeping KJ plus and soon Sochan will ask for big money he does not deserve.
We should have drafted Edey! I’m still pissed about that😤

Who is to say that pick isn’t amazing and that will be in Wembys prime. Julius Randle and Edwards literally fought today at practice

First rule of Top Ten Pick: you don’t use Top Ten Pick on a backup.
Draft the center out of Duke

@@randyorr9443timberwolves picked Rob. I think it’s way more important that we get a shot at the next LeBron in 2031 that a good backup center
Yeah I like Malauch.
Khaman Maluach would be a nice pickup and make the Spurs long
@@randyorr9443 I had my fingers crossed, and when we picked, it wasn’t Edey I was kind of pissed off
Castle i would not trade for luka injury, pron no defense having ass, joic getting up their in age
Lmfao, come on. I like Castle, but the likelihood he's even remotely close to Jokic or Luka is extremely unlikely. Those are 2 top 5 players in the league and immediately have you contending for championships.
So what if such a trade happens ?
You become pissed off the Spurs and turn into a Mavericks fan, because Stephon makes you dream more than Luka ? 😂
Ummm are you drunk, castle only for a player like Luka, jokic, top players?? Vessel for Fox?? Lmao nobody outside of spurs fans think this way lol
No one's saying straight up goofy. You have a brain, don't you? You should try to use it. Do better and think before you speak.
