That was great. Red looked like it had to work harder compared to black. I’d like to see you behind the wheel of the black MRS with track times vs your red MRS.
Nice comparission. Clearly the 2zz suffers with its big rpm-drop from 2. to 3.gear. Second gear is almost unuseble on this track and third is to long out of slow corners. Anyway, the Sound is so much better and gives the car so much more character. Another interesting point on this video is the far more stable handling on the 2AR-Car and whether it is triggered by the rollcage, or only different setup.
3rd gear out of lift is useless on slow corners. On the handling I had new tyres fitted that I'd never used before and really didn't rate them. Also I eyeballed the rear alignment after the recent gearbox replacement 😆 Still on the day there was only 0.2s a lap difference between the cars.
@@MRS-2ZZ 3rd gear up the ratios are perfectly narrow on the 6-speed box. 2nd is a little to short, but it is what it is. I´ve a MR2-2zz too. Here in germany it is not that easy with modifying cars and german-tuv. Therefore my car is on stock catalytic converter and muffler now 😤 But i just bought an 2,5" custom exhaust with 200-cell cat. I am very curious to see what this does
Considering the 2AR has a lot more displacement to work with the 2ZZ did pretty good staying as close as it did. Which transmission was the 2ZZ using? The final drive could make a big difference pulling out of the corners. C60 has lower final drive than the Euro six speed.
@stevenbitecofer6831 I'm on the C60. It's not suited to 225 45 15 rears at this track. 225 45 16 are much better. A slight increase in FD makes all the difference. Use 3rd in slower corners and 5th on the straights. You can't get away from the 2AR-FXE torque though.
@@MRS-2ZZ When you state a slight increase in FD makes all the difference are you referring to the c60 4.3 vs the euro 3.9? Or are you stating that a lower drive like a 4.5 on the c60 would be better? Asking since I have a euro c66 that Ive been thinking about swapping a 4.5 into which would make for some slightly larger spacing between gears vs the c60 but would still be better than how it is now.
There's a couple popular youtubers out there doing 2AR swaps in these... seems good for an endurance car which is what they're using it for. However, being that a k24/20 frank doesn't cost much more, I think that's probably the way to go.
The 2.5L hybrid engine in majority of toyota's hybrid cars. Remove the electric motor and trans , and replace it with the manual from a Scion TC and you get a 2.5L NA engine that is slightly smaller than the 2zz engine, in physical dimensions. The 2AR engine is pretty compact for a 2.4L, and a few lbs lighter than the 2zz.
2AR looks a bit faster but 2zz definitively wins the sound part of the battle!

Thank you. I was offered the chance to drive the black MR2 but I bottled it. I'll take you up on the next offer @threepotgtti 21st February 👍
Is that a GR Yaris getting eaten by Spyders in the end?
Yup
slow driver
awesome battle! that yaris 😡
Nice driving buddy! 2zzge🤘

@ilovecurbs8717 mine is also running a 2.5" system and 200cel sports cat. Made exactly book figures.

Tidy driving guys! not much in it, both had strengths in different parts of the track.

Feel like this says a lot about the 2AR.. rather 1.8t or 1zz turbo if 2GR is out of reach lol
I'd rather have none you mentioned and go K20/24 frank.
3GSTE or a beams would be cool, but K24 is deffo the way to go. Get em before they rocket in price.
