    What is the purpose of female axles?

    • @AlfredoMancuso

      It’s lighter, looks cleaner, if you don’t ride pegs it’s sleeker, and some people prefer it so that they can run their chains tighter because you can remove your wheel easily

      Reduces weight can be stronger removes axles sticking out the bike which can mess up your ankles and shit. Also is supposed to make replacements easier but extracting bolts sucks so not really.

      Yo look around you might be able to find an axle from a different hub that's compatible. I know 2 kits that convert the freenight style coasters to female. And I used to use shadow hub guards that replace the cone nuts on my wtp hub.

    I’m about to try this with my profile elite hub. I snapped the axle clean off at the grind guard. 82$ for a new axle. I’ll be heading to Home Depot to get the tap and a bolt. Thanks for the video guys!

    It’s gotta be the lightest version of the BSD revolution! Honestly had no idea you could do this to a hub.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For now maybe. But the old proper titanium female axle kits fit in these hubs so it's likely not the lightest version.
      Mine should be lighter once I can get other bits for my one build planned. Custom ti axle and driver. Shemale modded so female on the drive side male on the non drive side. May still use the freenight version for a saved ounce but looking at a 12 to 13 ounce coaster once done with my mods. Maybe lighter if I upgrade the bearings in the hub as well.
      Freenight planetary is sub 16 ounces with full chromo hardware though. Aluminium or ti axle nut kit ti axle and ti or aluminium driver and yeah for about the price of a full ti z coaster you get a coaster that's as light as the lightest cassette hubs and just as reliable.

  • @magicgundam
    @magicgundam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Not being a female axle hub is my only nitpick about the BSD coaster, otherwise, it's hands down the best freecoaster I've ever ridden.

    • @googleaccount4159
      @googleaccount4159 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah and with all other BSD rear hubs being female makes you wonder if theres a good reason this one is not.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only easy way to female mod the hub is to use a sub par 3/8ths bolt set up with a standard cassette axle. Doing 14mm female would require redesigning a bunch of parts of the hub. And likely need custom bearings.
      It'll come in the future. But remember this is first gen tech.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@googleaccount4159 there is. But there also isn't. It's cost related. And making it easier to get replacement parts for all the hubs using this tech as well as refining it before custom bits get added in.

One and only difference between them is, F25 having welded brake mounts and R25 doesn’t having them. Trust me I ride bmx for 6 years now, and I work in bike shop.
