You can use almost any shade you want with these lamps. If you have a philips ambilight tv or a hue hdmi sync box it makes a lot of sense to use hue bulbs and add surround light.
2 picture frames or 2 lamps for surrounds? Not sure I'm keen on the idea of having 2 lamps behind the listening position to be honest, i assume the light can be turned off but still produce sound?
Awesome review as always. Thanks Peter. Finally took the plunge and get one myself to try oh boy it didn't disappoint me at all. I'm planning to get another lamp soon to pair it up.
I really like your sonos-related reviews and tips. Bought beam gen 2 with 2x symfonisk lamps and atmos performance is awesome. I will extend it with sub mini once it's on sale.
@@PeterPee And the cheapest. There is a deal at IKEA in Poland. You can get symfonisk lamp base (without shade) for 399 PLN (~85 USD). Normally it's 699PLN (~147 USD).
Hello Peter, thanks for your advice, but I have a question regarding the surrounding area, is it possible to have a bookshelf and a lamp mixed together as surround option, can they work together and what is the result of this project? I ask you that because I will buy soon a playbar gen 2 and need your knowledge to complete my installation, thanks again from France
I wanna know I recently bought the frame and looks and sound amazing but I wanna create surround system can I made it with only ikea Symfonisk? And if yes what products I will need and how ?
Started on a budget Sonos music-only bedroom surround setup with 2 used Play:3's. Adding gen2 lamps for a rear pair, then later a used Five for a luxurious center channel. Due to Craigslist magic, I may also end up with a pair of gen2 bookshelves basically for free - tempted to just sit them under the lamps for extra overkill until this becomes a budget living room TV surround setup.
I'm starting building my home sound system. For now I have symfonisk gen 2 lamps and it's nice for me for listening music. But I would like to connect it with computer, TV and console. What would you recommend for good price-quality ratio?
I want to buy my first good quality speakers. The main purpose is clasical music but I will use it also for other type of music and movies. The most important for me is the sound quality. Is that the best speaker I can get in this price range? What has better sound quality the lamp or the frame?
No news man. I was so disappointed with how slow ikea singapore is bringing those Symfonisk stuff in. I still don’t have a lamp shade for the Symfonisk lamp!
I know this question is irrelevant to the video, Is the Sonos beam gen 2 a 5.0 or 3.0.2 or 3.0 sound bar? I was under the impression from rtings it is 5.0 soundbar!
Excellent video as usual Peter! Thank you for sharing. Do you have any insight into when we will see Sonos adding the option to add separate speakers for left/right front channels? Today it is integrated into the Beam/Arc and while it is good it is not meeting a real 5.1/5.2
I will be placing this in my bedroom. I’ve never owned a Sonos product. I bought this for 149 U.S. and 20 dollars shipping. Do I need anything else or is this good for a bedroom. I have a google home hub in my bedroom as well
This lamp is a scam, cause it doesnt have a bluetooth. This whole app and network cable is utter nonsense. Why do sonos speakers have bluetooth but in this collab they do not? Give you a hint, sonos speakers pair nicely with symfonisk.

Even though they are all similar speakers, you did a great job of pointing out the differences
Thank you for your feedback!

Glad you like them! And the lamp as surrounds is simply an ingenious way to hide the speakers!

finally someone answering all my question, nice review :)
I wish IKEA would stop using a proprietary shade connector. Would make the lamp a lot more useful if you could put any shade in it.
Ready for the picture frame vid fam, great review!

How are you getting TV sound into your setup?
Are you considering reviewing the Symphonisk Picture Frames?
Yes. Coming up soon!
I'm starting building my home sound system. For now I have symfonisk gen 2 lamps and it's nice for me for listening music. But I would like to connect it with computer, TV and console. What would you recommend for good price-quality ratio?
Any idea when will the bookshelf gen 2 be made available in Singapore?
I have no idea. I still waiting for the lamp shades to come in to dress up my make Symfonisk lamps gen 2!

Peter, any news on Symfonik Bookshelf Gen 2 for the SG market?
No news man. I was so disappointed with how slow ikea singapore is bringing those Symfonisk stuff in. I still don’t have a lamp shade for the Symfonisk lamp!
Hi Peter, Just got 1, and i dont know how to link it to my phone. Mind share?
Link it to your phone? You need to take the first step of Sonos S2 app. Have you downloaded the Sonos S2 App from app store yet?
Can you compare Gen 1 vs Gen 2 for rear surrounds? I picked up two Gen 1 lamps for $75 each.
I can’t. Unfortunately cos I have to buy them. I don’t have enough budget to buy so many. :(

Why i asked, cuz I want to upgrade my beam gen 2 but torn between a sub or surrounds!
It's a 5.0. Simulated heights. But then again, it's also simulated surrounds. In terms of drivers, it's really a 3.0.
If you ask me, go for the sub!
@@PeterPee appreciate your reply... thanks a lot for your great efforts to make very detailed/ informative videos
Based in Australia, and could not get any Lamp Gen 2 in the store. ☹️
That’s the part I don’t get. Ikea is a supply chain master. Why they can’t get it everywhere is beyond me.

I am hoping really soon! But to be honest, it is my hope rather than what I think they will really do.

My story is similar.Have one for the same purpose in my bedroom. You can connect it to you google home infrastructure easily.
Wait, it is quieter than the bookshelf?
The bookshelves are indeed louder st some music and levels.
@@PeterPee that’s quite surprising as I’m pretty sure the speaker is a lot larger, guess size doesn’t matter after all
Speaking of using white color for the video, I kept checking out your ghost (high back chair) behind you. 🤨
Haha. I have been thinking about setting up a better lit area of the house for my videos. So many things fading into the background. :)
great video
Thanks!
I think the 1st gen better looking in my opinion. I dont like look of gen 2.
Yeah. I appreciate that everyone will have different taste. :)
I like the gen 2 better because it doesn’t come with the base (like a plate) like gen 1. Hahaha
im sure they sound okay but design wise it just looks like they literally put a light bulb on top of a speaker..
Haha. That’s cos I haven’t gotten the lamp shade!

Ots called a book shelve speaker because you can ise it as a book shelve. Not stick in
bro... no one pronounces Ikea the way you do haha. It's Eye-Kee-Ah.... Not Ik-Kee-Ah
I was suprised when i heard that, and fyi, thats pretty much how you pronounce it in Sweden. / someone from sweden
Hey hey! This is interesting. So Sweden folks pronounce it Ik-Kee-Ah?
@@PeterPee your pronounciation is perfect.
@@PeterPee Just the way you pronounced it.
