  • Caught a hammerhead and did some sailboat skiing (aka dragging behind the sailboat) lol Took my dad out for his birthday and he caught the hammerhead on our son's fishing pole.

    Nice family. Glad you didn't catch that hammerhead you were trolling for at the end of the video.

      Thanks Doug! Do you have a sailboat now? Would love to hear what you have or plan to work toward! It's so much fun!

      i built a Beth Sailing Canoe five years ago to piddle around the local lake with little to no wind. along those lines, the Mac 19,X or M would fit the bill if there is wind we sail if not we motor. I have two girls 4 and 7 so it is nice to see your child on the water. The Mac X's are coming down in price, so it may be an option after daycare is over.

    One hand on the boat and the other holding up the suite, "What do you want me to do?" I guess it depends on which suite she wants to wear! lol...

    Great Video! I have the same boat 26x, heading to the Exumas in the Bahamas next month for a few weeks. (My boat is live-aboard modded for extended travel). Would be great to get some other boats together and cross at the same time.

      Thanks Andrew! We have been talking about doing that next month, but didn't think we were ready yet since we're so new to sailing. It's our next challenge when we have a larger window of time to get past the gulf stream. Definitely a good idea to cross with another boat for sure. Have you crossed before in your MacGregor? Did you leave from Ft. Lauderdale and sail straight across, or did you do a combo of sail/motor? Would love to see any videos you have of this.

      It will be my first crossing, mostly expect to motor across, as I am also new to sailing, have been motor-yachting around on a 45' Carver for years, but Macgregors drew me in with the extreme practicality and low cost. I would be flexible about where to launch.. Me and my gf are planning first to trailer to key west, sail to Marquesas, then over to the Dry tortugas, as a practice run for our Bahamas crossing. you are absolutely right about waiting for the right weather window. I plan to be sailing around the Bahamas for a month, completely open itinerary, just mostly to hookah dive and spearfish, explore some isolated islands in shoal waters.

      What are the mods you've done? I'm looking at Mac Gregor 26s as a liveaboard.

      Hey Andrew, did you end up doing the crossing to the Bahamas last year? We are going in June this year finally to Bimini.

      @@SailingwiththeMurph did you make the crossing in June?

    Fun videos. My family just bought a 26M this past fall. We are looking forward to sailing the lakes in our area this summer and camping out on the boat. We hope to bring it to Destin at the end of July if we feel like we have our sea legs. I can sail the boat, but have never sailed in busy waterways or done coastal sailing. Did you take any courses or read any books before you guys started?

    • @SailingwiththeMurph
      @SailingwiththeMurph  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Shahan! Yes, we took the ASA 101 3 day course on a lake here in Orlando and that helped immensely. We did not have prior sailing experience, but we feel extremely comfortable on our boat after having done the course. I pretty much grew up on motor boats as a kid, but never captained my own boat until this one. Where are you located?

      Well it seems like the course worked. You guys seem pretty comfortable out there on the videos.
      We are in Oklahoma City. I'll see if I can find a course nearby. Thanks for the tip!

    Nice video, that’s what macs were made for, having fun with the family. I love my M26. Good drone work too, what sort do you use? And how do you go taking off and landing? I have a mavic pro I just haven’t taken off from the boat yet.

    • @SailingwiththeMurph
      @SailingwiththeMurph  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! We use the Phantom 3 Pro drone. Take off and land literally from my hand. Even while under sail! You have to be quite coordinated to do it :-)

    We love your video. The drone footage is awesome. What type or kind of drone are you using?

    • @SailingwiththeMurph
      @SailingwiththeMurph  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Al! We used the DJI Phantom 3 Pro. We got lucky with the weather that day. It was before summer was in full gear here, so it was super clear :-) Makes for good video.

    I request to please lower the volume on the music as I have to keep raising and lowering my volume to hear what you guys are saying. Then I get blasted with the music.

      Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to do that on the next one. I'm a bit new to video editing :-)

    Great video. The drone footage and wind noise reduction make all the difference between something you watch and something you'ld. Watch again and subscribe too.

    Great vid guys but hey it was a little thoughtless to hook the hammerhead knowing there was no chance of landing it to get the hook out.

      I don’t think you know how fishing works. You put a lure out and have no control over what bites. It’s not like they saw the shark and targeted it.

    Hello Great video compliments. How is it with the 20 hp? What speed do you reach? Thank you

    • @SailingwiththeMurph
      @SailingwiththeMurph  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We can get up to about 9 or 10 knots with the motor. It will almost plane without the water ballast and not a lot of load in the boat. It came with the 20HP motor, and we've never thought about switching it out. We enjoy the boat more as a sailboat and run the engine only when necessary :)
