But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Hey nice project! Just try some furniture wax where everything is sliding together to make it slide easier. This is what furniture makers use/d when there is wood on wood sliding together
@@ModernBuilds no problem...I should have been more specific. You don't really want the finishing wax. Just some regular parafin wax found in the canning aisle.
Fantastic video! One suggestion, instead of making larger spacers for it to move more smoothly, try rubbing a wax candle on all the parts that slide together. This makes for an excellent lubricant for wooden tracks. Also works for old chest of drawers that like to stick.
Great idea! I’m curious if something like drawer slides could be used to help keep the two pieces aligned? Maybe some hidden wheels on the front moving panel so make it super smooth.
I hope you will do podcast on spotify so i can hear it easier !!!! BTW, thank you so much, because of watching your videos, i improve my english listening a lot and i realize that i'm really interested in design, build and make thing that convenient, modern and helpful.
I like this video, but I think there is a major flaw. You can't sleep on the futon, because the sides can't be lowered. The length is too small for an average sized person with those sides up.
How are you so accurately using the clamped down piece of wood to cut the right size?? Are you making the measurement and then just simply adding an extra amount for the distance between the wood and the blade itself??
yes, knowing the dimensions of your saw makes it simple to measure from the outside of the shoe to either the inside or outside of your blade. taking the kerf of the blade into consideration will allow you to know exactly how much to add, or subtract, to easily clamp your straight edge.
Nice work that turned out so clean keep up the great craftsmanship and work make on my friend great to see ur videos can't wait to see what u make next
Putting square or rectangle nylon slides on the part that moves would also help with making it easier to slide in and out. Maybe like the ones you put on the bottom of chairs. Just saying.
This is the equivalent of me using parts of my previous essays to make a new essay for a different class back in my college days... 🤔 I approve. 👍 Also, 11:30 You are clearly a bad influence.
9:18 Mike my dude, you need to invest in a quality assortment of full-sized driving bits. I've watched many of your videos and you seem to always have this problem. I hate using the little magnetic driving bit that the box of screws comes with because it always gets stuck on the screw after you drive it. Trust me its worth the money and time. Love you and your videos, as well as the podcast!!!
looks dope mike. maybe try free handing an angle on the slats and using some paste wax to help them slide a bit easier. Glen at diycreators did a similar one a while back that I built and the wax and lead angle helped me a lot
Nice, easy and cheap project! Those armrests look so uncomfortable. Why not make them wider? The legs look quite flimsy. Maybe make them more robust looking with some leftovers?
the legs don't really need to be sturdy because they will be secured to the bus. Also, there is nothing flimsy about 1 1/2'' inches of plywood. This won't just be a free-floating piece of furniture. It will most likely be fastened to both the wall and the floor making it perfectly sturdy without the extra weight. Weight is your enemy in a vehicle.
Edit: this makes much more sense having seen the bus living room build. Wasn't super clear from title or description though 😉 Wait I am confused... What is the improvement here? It was already a futon sleeper sofa...? Your mod appears to have less comfortable armrests and no actual improvement in functionality
it is now able to be installed into a bus conversion and fastened to the floor and wall. Otherwise, it would just be an unsecured futon bouncing around the vehicle. he stated that he only wanted the cushions and that buying the entire sofa was less expensive than doing the cushions himself.
I love everything you do! I love everything about you Matt (i previously thought your name was Mike my bad 😅) but I think you should make the sides of the sofa the same height as the futon so that someone could lay more easily (a kid perhaps) or fit more people to sit, also i think you'll hit more often if you leave the bare wood like that. Not that it's not great as a design it's just that I've had beds like this and it's a pain in the 🍑 (literally as you'll find out if you miscount where you'll sit...)
New guy here but I just got a weird question. I've been looking into futons lately. I have 3 boys and it's hard find beds for all of us. So to get to my point is there a futon that splits into 2 separate seats then to 2 separate beds or if I can modify a store bought one to work to the way I need. It's a weird idea but I figured I ask someone who builds the things
This would be cool if you cut the movable front leg about 1/2 inch shorter and add hidden wheels behind the panel, that'll let it roll out easier. Would just have to cut small openings in the front stationary leg for the wheels to fit into when closed.
That little bump up on the sides really sets it off 🔥🔥🔥

Good old bar soap works a treat also
Was just about to say the same thing - rubbing a plain (non-scented) candle stick on the wood will help too.
Every time the camera fell, I thought it was a really cinematic shot happening 😂 great build Mike!
i did too, i was like “wow this is abstract” 😂😂
I was like: Damn he's really putting a lot of effort on those shots... No, what?!
Skippy Dinglehjönk exactly 😂
Thiago Busato same honestly 😂
same! then I got an ad from him .-.

This is the best sofa I e seen in an RV. Wow!

Is it my imagination or is this too small to lie down on??
it's a bed for ants
That's just because it's on your phone, it's bigger in person
Yeah, at 1:18 he was laying down diagonally and his whole body was still not all on there
@@KristofNachtergaele Yes, for petite Aunts when they visit :)
L V he is big tho
I would've kept the original one... looks way nicer and lighter.

Rub a candle stick on the edges of the runners!!

@@ModernBuilds cool i cant wait!
That is beautiful!
Awesome build!
Looks really good
Can I suggest some paste wax so the sliding motions is smoother?
This is the best channel
How do you like the Hart Tools? Compared to Ryobi?
One additional suggestion... Use furniture grade casters on front legs for easy slide in/out.

C Cald thanks dude
Nice work that turned out so clean keep up the great craftsmanship and work make on my friend great to see ur videos can't wait to see what u make next
What do you recommend to prevent scratching the floor as you pull it out to make a bed? It's beautiful nonetheless!
Buy delrin and cut into strips. It’s like a Teflon plastic you can screw (w counter sinks) in place.
Putting square or rectangle nylon slides on the part that moves would also help with making it easier to slide in and out. Maybe like the ones you put on the bottom of chairs. Just saying.
I know how to sew. The building the sofa is the hard part for me haha!

Good job with the content.
The sliding mechanism is very usable for my case.
Hi , can you please make a bunk bed with a desk on the bottom with a back and head rest on the bed and with a light
Turned out great Mike, awesome job! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
So dope!
Keep it up love the channel
Nice frame... is the sofa comfortable and sturdy
My knees and back always hurt watching you assemble stuff on the ground. Nice build nonetheless!
lol, you'd be in major pain watching me work. #FLOORGANG!
Cool for very short guests and children.
nice diy diy

Can you use cabinet sliders to make is smoother ?
Why not sand the runners to extend the space between them?
And by the way, great video! though I would've liked a splash of color
Honestly I’ve been waiting for more videos so thanks!
Could you put storage under or drawers that pullout?
Yooo!!! You should build this slide out futon with added storage for your schoolie camper!!!
I suggest that u wax the bottom for smooth sliding when opening the sofa to bed
HEEEEY LOVE YOUR CONTENT BRO
Thanks!!!
i luv your vids

Nice job! You do make cool, modern stuff!
If you lay down from left to right, won’t the arm rests be in the way, especially for tall people? Greetings from South Africa

Finally a new episode!!
It would be so cool if you added extra storage like underneath or a hanging box on the side for remotes etc

I wonder if you could utilize the space under the cushions for some sort of storage? Or will that not work on the bus?
I believe he mentioned it is being placed over the wheel well of the bus, so I'm sure there wasn't a practical solution for storage beneath.
@@Battlebuddie Thanks, I missed that
could you use drawer sliders to increase ease?

Super pro
Please do some upholstery on the arms of the new sofa sleeper. Show us your upholstery skills please
Try some Teflon drawer tape on the sliding parts!

hows the bus building going???? im SUPER excited to see the next video come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you guys shipping the simple finish worldwide?
I loved this! And curious, what did you do with the side cushions and the legs?
Maybe use some paste wax between the slides to grease it up a little bit. Or some thin plastic that's a little more slippery.
