I think this league was us testing the new way of ascending in poe2 and their experiment with adjusting the drop rates of some rare items and currencies. I really enjoyed being able to farm the currency for a headhunter. But I agree with you that this league will have screwed the market for next league. Also I never understood that mentality of stubborn selling. I list stuff high, then lower it a little every few hours or every play session until it sells. The only exception is if I've sold multiple of something and know what they've sold for
i agree with your statement , i think they were for sure doing some experimental drop rates to see how it would effect the game in preparation for poe 2. thanks for this opinion! this gave me something new to think about :)
no. they knew they paid enough shills to get new players and make money. same ish happened when they sponsored players for 3.13 and 3.14. the game isn't good like this. this is the opposite of the vision but not in a good way. the game is a meme right now. but new players don't know that and the shills are just praising everything because they have to.
I farmed blight with wildwood juice in maps, didn't run blighted maps cause you don't get league mechanic, and you're still dropping gold/silver oils every blight as well as the loot explosion from the mobs that drop at cassia, I dropped multiple locks, ton of t0 uniques like mb, squire, etc all without running rarity/quant gear. Like it's not going to be as good currency as straight mfing, or it won't be as many oils as running blighted or blight ravaged maps, but it's still 100% doable to still make a ton of currency without mf and focusing on what you enjoy.
agreed fully. my point was never "you have to mf to keep up" my point was more that most players are wanting to mf and therefore we have this weird supply issue in certain corners of the market
100% this. an the argument of the rich getting richer faster just doesn't hold up. I did a blight setup as well, and the entry cost may have been higher to get above the "40d / hour" mark of a newer player, lower build, but I eventually could make such a shitton of currency that I was able to play every build I could want with reasonable time investment. I made 5 builds this league that are all T16 juiced WW viable. I'm working on my bosser as my last build for fun, this is such a kneejerk take of it being a bad league because prices are inflated.
I kind think opposite. Like casuals they get dopamine from drops and for most this is only league they can get exmpl mageblood. Wildwood was fresh breath
Idk if it was bad for the game economy but for me it was awesome. Finally got HH, MB and everything that I wished for... Tried 4 different builds and to this day still having fun with. Back in 2015/6/7 I used to play till level 94/5 and leave the league, this time I got my first level 100 🧘🏻♂️
Feel like the biggest problem is not inflation of currency but how much value some of the most aspirational items like headhunter or mageblood lost. The problem I see next league happening is that many people are now used to farming for like a day to get a headhunter or maybe two to get a mageblood when that is usually never the case. And I think the last point is simply incorrect prices are always different on league start compared to later and most people will settle for lower prices if that's what other people are listing it for. You're not going to have everybody list enlighten supports on day 1 of next league for 80 divines. As you even said in your video the market corrects itself. That is why mageblood is now 150d compared to last leagues 350d even though people earn way more currency.
Exactly how is the value of an item dropping in price to be more affordable to everyone while giving you profit if you sell it a bad thing? What economic principles do you follow?
@@Mardoro124 all the other inflation is basically nullified because if you can buy or afford either headhunter or mageblood then they are build defining or they fix your glaring issues with your build. This is my first league with either item. They make literally everything easier.
@@dpolenz79 i mean mageblood is also the best leveling item. At level 44 all res capped and like 15k armour or evasion and with other leveling items like 200%ms. Mageblood is just that good and easy to use and headhunter can carry any mapping build. Edit: And many rare items for niche build are just priced the same. If you are playing meta thats another peoblem then
I have to thank you bikespokes for being the best market focused youtuber I've found. This league I was a hideout warrior and made about 2400d worth playing maybe an hour a day (but selling afk 5-6 hours). Its hard to use affliction league as a good metric to see if I did well. I reached all my goals, crafting all my gear, buying all t0 uniques, profiting from all statistically favorable gambles that I knew of of which I was priced out of in previous leagues, and trading for a mirror. Idk I feel like even with more knowledge and experience my hideout warrior experience in a less inflated economy would feel unfulfilling
i would say in this league economy, average item are easier to reach, endgame item or minmax item is harder.. the good thing is everything u do is rewarded here, wether u do blight delve essence lab mf, anything is feels more rewarded than ever so average player can reach their dream item.. many of my friends that usually totally budget build now can have a taste of luxury unique items
3:07 iv done maybe 300 maps total in the entire league, first map I started adding scarabs to dropped a head hunter so that made magic finding quite easy
yeah this actually is a good point. magic find had an easier barrier to entry than farming anything else which i think made it more appealing for players to commit to magic finding instead of providing other resources to the market
I honestly saw affliction as a custom sandbox league where drop rates are like x4. So I believe having a league like this once a while would be great, but definitely not constantly.
So one thing I think gets missed all the time when it comes to these types of videos is that people only talk about uniques and how their price is inflated. Not all uniques are inflated. Many are actually cheaper in terms of buying power than previous leagues. Many services are still priced similarly to what they were and while crafting materials are more expensive, they are not so much more. What does this mean? 1. Average players do get rares though, and with crafting being more accessible, more people craft, more items in the market, things become cheaper.
It's hard to say how the economy is going from my point of view. I didn't play for close to 2 years and this is my first league back but I just bought myself a Nimis and I've never been able to afford something like that before. I can't tell if I was just lucky with the build I picked, the farming I decided to do, the extra free time I have, or if the economy is actually in a healthy spot. It really could be a mixture of all of them or some of them but I anticipate the people that refuse to budge on high end items won't affect the market in an impactful way. I suspect if people do set prices too high the market will adjust and prices will come down as more items come into the market and more people are willing to sell. As for stubborn sellers, I'm guilty of setting prices and forgetting about the item completely. It might as well not exist since I don't adjust it and no one makes offers. It sits in my stash as dead weight until I create my own currency scarcity from spending and then I might reassess what I have in my stash to sell. A league that provides less currency will create scarcity more frequently and, hopefully, encourage people to reassess the prices they have set.
It’s funny you used Tox Rain as example. I’m a brand new player and I started with a max roll Tox Ballista build. Currently trying to swap but I’ve only played a month, made about 900div, and I can reliably farm T16 corrupted maps with 7-9k wisps. However, since I have no MF it took me a looooong time to farm all that. Bout to swap to penis brand or maybe a blade cortex build a friend has that I watched and he has great clear and extreme tankiness for a pathfinder build.
I’ve really enjoyed this league above most others in the past because it actually feels like a unique temp league done right. In my opinion, a temp league should offer more than just loot. Having extra player power via new item slots or league mechanic passives makes for a smooth campaign to early maps and get our builds online a little easier.
Best league so far for me. I love doing blight. I do it most of the leagues, now that prices of oils skyrocketed I became rich doing mechanic I like the most. Worst thing I can think of is if the prices of tier 0 uniques like mageblood goes back to 400 - 500 div range it will be a chore to farm it again in a new league.
I used to blight a lot. A lot of the profit you make is in raw currency. In this league the raw currency drops were practically meaningless and the higher prices on very rare oils was not enough to justify even bothering with blight.
So all the prices of items went up except for the entire core drop pool. So while you have to farm an extra hour for enlighten 4, you only have to farm three hours for mageblood instead of fifty. On top of that, they added a number of incredibly overpowered new skills. So with much less time spent, an average player can put together a build that uses mb and has 100m dps. I think this league made things incredibly easier for anyone who bothered to try any coherent stat. Also, the prices of next league are going to be dictated entirely by supply and demand. If there are 10 of the same item listed for 30div and they aren't selling, I'm betting at least one of those people is going to lower it to 29, then 28 etc until there is someone willing to buy them.
It corrected itself. I defenitely al a casual. Usually make 80-100DIV in a normal league farming harvest/blight/ insert item to sell generator. Made over 500 this league. Sadly cannot get awakened multistrike from your reasons stated, but all other gear min maxed. Because of inflation all the little currencies became more valuable. The one thing i think you missed was that niche builds never inflated. I made an es relic of the pact sanctum farmer for 150 div. Full min maxed. 28k life. 150mil dps. Had left over currency so i bought a mage blood. Had so much extra after playing i did a complete arakalis fang build. I have never in all my years playing poe fully min maxed a build because im a casual. Especially not 2 builds. Normally i only get 1 build to 80%. I hope they currency keeps coming.
If anyone plays League of Legends, you would have probably tried the game mode: Ultra Rapid Fire. It’s basically very short cooldown so you can use your skills one after another. It’s super OP and addictive. BUT then they would face huge drop off numbers in players after this game mode. It’s almost like players have experienced a much higher dopamine spike from URF game mode that the normal stuff doesn’t spike their dopamine at all. So participating rate or retention would be likely for next league. But LOL still does URF several times a year. It will be interesting to see what happens to POE in the next few leagues.
I agree. I have one minor quibble. You said "costed" which is incorrect English. "cost" is one of those words that functions as both present and past tense. That's all. I have no idea what GGG is going to do about this economy, but judging by ruining standards legacy items with crucible trees, then literally deleting peoples hard earned alt quality gems, they are hell-bent on ruining poe1 to force people into poe2 when it finally drops. I don't like it. It's either sinister, or incompetent. They will do it slowly so no one really notices, if so.
Thanks for your video, I've honestly been waiting so long for someone to make a video addressing this. I woke up one morning and the price of divines dropped to 117c. For those of us who don't like to magic find you would think that the off-map rewards would increase in value, and while it has somewhat, it doesn't compete with MF at all. I think that creating this paradigm of sacrificing your ideal build to instead be built around quant is pretty lame and excludes a large part of the player base and a large amount of the content the game has to offer. Right now its TS Jungle Valley or you are a pleb. I had thoughts that surely there would be some hotfixes to mitigate the growing imbalance between the average player and every other sweatlord, but alas the situation is rather janky. I feel there's little middle-ground, with some strong items being only a few chaos or a divine but a max roll or ideal implicit being 2 mirrors. It's hard to bridge the gap and find some comfortable footing with some stuff at the moment.
IMO this league is great for casual players cos there are a lot of cheap items like headhunter or mageblood. I have question: why don't you alcing uber eater?
I didn't play MF. I feel I figured out how to make currency from league mechanics and crafting. This league has been very good to me. Only my second league though. Had a lot of fun this time round.
Really have to disagree with your thesis on price of uniques going up due to supply. Valdos maps or not, in a league where you can buy Mageblood, Headhunter, Squire, etc as a casual player this is the most accessible league ever. Crafted items is a different story. But you can also farm said crafting mats and even if you don't craft yourself you are offsetting a lot of that cost by being the supplier.
best league ever, as a casual that haver never before even finished the 10 favoured slots in the atlas, this league i made it all, all uber bosses, completed the entire atlas, have done everything i wanted to do, something that was unreachable before. i feel like i have played poe for the first time
The Wildwood Wisp MF is absolute chaos incarnate that should have never existed. Wildwood Ascendancy, Charms, Corpse and Tinctures are pretty amazing that I want it to become core. MB and HH might have been more common and cheaper this league but it has made trading for other boss/mechanic specific unique 10x more expensive. If they want to make Wisp core, it should be nerf. The Wildwood quest are also complete garbage and annoying, like jesus it makes you not care of the ascendancy because of how RNG it is. You could find the boss in 10 tries or you could be me and find it on 58 tries.
Free market always manages itself. Price of items is based on how many item, diff. build types etc. Wildwood probably one of the best things GGG has ever done, not only did MF farmers fuel crafting, we got more mirror items than ever that have no mrror fee's, but aslo open other avenues for casual gamers, you could literally farm and sitll can farm white map essence and sell stacks for many div. Lots of casual crafted items were extremely cheap, allowing normal players to get some of the failed crafts that aren't mirror tier. Boss rushing, invatition farming all strategies was up and easily doable by many casual player,. Also I've used enlighten 3 gems the entire league and I always sell enlighten 4 cause I have never "needed it" you don't need enlighten 4 or awakened enlightens, you dont' need mageblood, hh, or original sin. These are mere luxury items to flex pob numbers. All of the items that are super high priced are luxury for flexing.
I really feel for anyone who started this league and decided to stick around. The loot explosions are cool but they missed the mark waaaaay too high. Like you said, next league is gonna be a slap in the face of "normal" drops. As an Edit: And I'm not even playing this league due to some IRL stuff, I've just been following the game and watching everything unfold.
Don't have to feel bad about me, had a blast farming 20 mirrors and im still playing. I'll complain for a day or 2 next league about feeling less loot, but at the end of the day, people with good work ethic and a gameplan will still end up on top. I dont care about the exact number of currencies I loot but rather how much relative to everyone else I loot.
Inflation. it will keep going up as long as ggg wants it. if they remove the wildwood next league, yes at first people will put their prices as high as this league, but over time prices will fall down because the lack of buyers. No average player can survive only selling to the richiest people, so they will have to move items faster and lower their prices. But i think the wildwood will go core just because everyone is buying new stash tabs, and more players are doing it. there is a monetary reason for ggg keeping the wildwood.
It -should- be added to core. This has been the funnest league ive played in and ive been playing off and on since beta. Things were much easier to get but i still had to spend ALOT of time to get them. Before things felt unattainable. This league i was able to try and build two characters (three but the third was meh.). The maji ascendancies need to be adjusted so theyre all as useful as one another. I also dont agree with your point on inflation. Compare the cost of items like Headhunter and Mageblood from past leagues to now. It was WAY more attainable this league to get those apex uniques than any other league and those items specifically significantly increase your capability to make more currency. The market will even itself out regardless of the league mechanic Less people farming other leagues? Those leagues items will become worth more.. I did not magic find to play this league at the start. I did Heist, Sanctum, Blight, boss rush for boss frags - all of the things people were ignoring and built a magic finder and almost ANY content you did this league was very good.
the reason mageblood and headhunter were more attainable was because they were being flooded by valdos map farmers. but if you look at rares and other general currencies and things like double corrupted uniques, the prices were nuts this league. not to mention when you have a ton of magic find, thats likely to increase the amount of t0 uniques to hit market too. i think generally yes the belts were more attainable by being nearly 1/3rd the price of last league but everything else felt more than quadrupled in price. but this is a great point barrier to entry on those middle end builds felt way more attainable. maybe it was easier for people to get their "farming" builds together and therefore that led to an easier time getting more raw currency. i value this opinion, you make a great point.
Everyone had the same if not better purchasing power they had in past leagues. At the end of the day, the people complaining about being poor have bad work ethic and inconsistent effort. I call them poeincels because all they do is complain but do nothing about it. This league was great though, usually only make 3-5 mirr a league but this one im at 20+ and still playing. But to my point, im probably the same if not better "richness" comparatively to the population.
kinda was !! the mapping experience was never this wild though !! i am a big m+ enjoyer in wow and enjoy killing extremely large packs of monsters in rpgs mapping this time arround was a wild ride to say the least and it will feel alot easier come next league ! what made the wildwood so bad is that everything scyrocketed in price builds that needed 1 mirror to reach high-high end potential now needed 4-6 which isnt that realistic for a guy playing 2-3 hours max a day and some days not at all :D but ye mapping was awsome
i agree. mapping *felt good* but there were definite market repercussions for it. it also didnt help that because of the difficulty spike that the wildwood brought with it, you had to invest more into your build to make it work
when you say its harder for the rich to get anoth money to buy shit that's Cinda Rong lol Belton has made over 60 mirror's in 12 days that's more than most mfers just food for fort
What youre trying to articulate: rarity/quant gear and group play is a huge advantage and ggg buffing the drops makes the divide between the elite and poor players even bigger.
Everyone had the same if not better purchasing power relative to other leagues. If you weren't farming a t0 belt in week 1 in past leagues, you weren't doing it in afflic. Though it's arguably way easier. It comes down to everyone's personal levels of dedication. I personally only make 3-5 mirrors a league but this league im at 20+.
this league was barely better than LOK. mostly because parts of the game were literally broken and that's the only way the game is good these days ( not a good thing ). The game has become a mobile game clown show meme and it's clear the devs don't care about poe 1 anymore. it's an ez cash grab while they focus on poe 2 and just pump out money to shills hoping the players they trick into poe 1 carry over. the valdo and reliqury maps are the death of the game as an actual non mobile game that you could take seriously. kirac pass was implemented horribly. these new gems are jokes and nothing should ever be locked behind a mechanic that should have been removed years ago. the gems prove they don't give af and are just doing w.e. until poe 2.
Did anyone else notice that stupid well in the wildwood. How long after league end does it take for GGG to say "players clicked 6382949537292 wells during 3.23. We told you clicking a well in PoE 2 would be no big deal!" Say goodbye to your flask charges..
expecting your average map blaster to understand economics is like expecting your dog to understand quantum mechanics. this league has been pretty frustrating for mid-high end crafters.
So many misstake and froud. Why u take just inligthen. 1 item , whats more expensive of other legue. Nowe lets compet morr useful. Hh and MB. New player cant buy this ( and lot of other uniq) even 3 month farm. Nowe i knowe newby who just run map ( boss rush) and got mb and hh. And i dont tell about other uniq items. Which u can buy for free and try new build.
I really hated this league. The rain of loot is too much for me. I can't feel the weight when a divine drops. Since divines drops so often, everything is "expensive" and I don't like seeing that many divines fleeing away in a simple trade. The league is fun tho
Price in a free market will always correct itself, the price discovery mechanism always works

It will be interesting to see what happens to POE in the next few leagues.
i played urf literally 2 days ago. this is a great point
Inb4 they remove quant and rarity on gear and it gets replaced with Wildwood going core
They already announced it's not going core next league.
There is definitely going to be a huge hangover next league.
I dont care about the exact number of currencies I loot but rather how much relative to everyone else I loot.
tbh it dont not matter coz new league dont stay same we all time get new thing and mechanic just only thing we will get some rare drop t1 to t0
Some items are way cheaper in this league than ever before, like a Mageblood or a Headhunter.
This is not a bad thing.
As you stated in the video the market corrects for itself
Inflation. it will keep going up as long as ggg wants it. if they remove the wildwood next league, yes at first people will put their prices as high as this league, but over time prices will fall down because the lack of buyers.
Im definitely going back to ssf next league. Don't regret playing trade this league though
it all balanced out, you even put it together in the second half of your video
kinda was !! the mapping experience was never this wild though !! i am a big m+ enjoyer in wow and enjoy killing extremely large packs of monsters in rpgs mapping this time arround was a wild ride to say the least and it will feel alot easier come next league ! what made the wildwood so bad is that everything scyrocketed in price builds that needed 1 mirror to reach high-high end potential now needed 4-6 which isnt that realistic for a guy playing 2-3 hours max a day and some days not at all :D but ye mapping was awsome
i agree. mapping *felt good* but there were definite market repercussions for it. it also didnt help that because of the difficulty spike that the wildwood brought with it, you had to invest more into your build to make it work
Great commentary, i really enjoyed your break down
As a new player, i say its fine or better
when you say its harder for the rich to get anoth money to buy shit that's Cinda Rong lol Belton has made over 60 mirror's in 12 days that's more than most mfers just food for fort
@@lehk23 every 23iq monkey can slap quant/rarity gear.
this league was barely better than LOK. mostly because parts of the game were literally broken and that's the only way the game is good these days ( not a good thing ).
Worst? Nah best league ever i got. Hh and mb that i never ever had b4. Love it played like crazy for 2 months. W8n for next league!
And Here I am struggling to make currency to buy mb 😅
Still need 70divs It's going slow.. 🐌
Impossible to go slow... Even if you farm just invitations, it would take you two days to get it. That's how I got it 😁
Did anyone else notice that stupid well in the wildwood. How long after league end does it take for GGG to say "players clicked 6382949537292 wells during 3.23. We told you clicking a well in PoE 2 would be no big deal!"
Say goodbye to your flask charges..
I think you underestimate how quickly people adjust to new league economies
true, solo play is asbeen now
expecting your average map blaster to understand economics is like expecting your dog to understand quantum mechanics. this league has been pretty frustrating for mid-high end crafters.
Absolute rubbish rabbling.
thats me ^-^
