    I really respect ur honesty and detail I just subbed we used to have these in the living room a few years back loved em but was wanting more midbass we sold them a while later however my own bedroom setup has changed drastically moving from av receivers to preprocessors and poweramps is a beautiful change and recently i swapped the drivers out and realised how much i was lacking and have decided I miss the way the dalis crossover since i play a large range of music and movies so i want them to perform in several different genres of music I think later down the line to fill my bass head needs I'll buy a Rel subwoofer most likely the T9i have you tried these speakers with a subwoofer i didn't personally get a chance to try them with one before and am hoping it has that perfect range where it still sounds balanced

      Cheers for the sub my man. The Dalis crossover just lovely, I know. I know exactly the subwoofer you are talking about - I have been thinking about that one myself. Only issue for me is I'm looking for a subwoofer that is ideal for both movies and music; I think the REL is more suited to music as it probably won't reach reference levels for movies.
      I have tried the Opticons with a number of subwoofers: 1) BK Monolith 2) BK Monolith Plus 3) SVS SB-2000 4) Yamaha SW901. The SVS and Yamaha were the best for music; however the Yamaha has some inherent quality control issues which is a shame. The SVS was excellent, but quite expensive in this country. I think the SVS will produce similar results to your REL, but perhaps a bit better as it should outperform the T9i for movies too. It is a sealed model with great power and extension and partnered very well with the Opticon

      @@geezerintotech The REL Subwoofers seem to have a lightweight cone and since ive always used a heavy car subwoofer with my home theatres im really interested in the smoothness because if the sub doesn't intograte as well why is it even there and I agree Rels are quite expensive im in the uk they are about £1000 but musically is where its hard to achieve real bass id go so far to say that for movies bass management isnt as good so for me music is the primary for whenever i need to relax and movies i hardly watch only now and again and hey if the Rel didn't add to the movie listening experience id just turn it off when watching films i could get a smart plug to turn it off or on whenever i want

      @@akeelshah7904 You can't go wrong with that REL. I've heard it in a shop demo room, so if you're looking for music first, I think you'll be happy. Personally, I wouldn't count that SVS out as it's a sealed subwoofer, it has a very high quality amp in there (550w), and it has fancy features like DSP, parametric equalisation and such. Personally, I think those features really help when you try to integrate your subwoofer in a room (and with your speakers). Perhaps try and get a home demo of both subwoofers?

    Hello, I enjoyed your review of the Dali. I have had these speakers now for about three years, matched with the Vokal and Opticon1s in my HT set-up. I am using a Pio SCLX501 AV amp for the music but close to getting a dedicated Stereo amp. Just wondering what amp you are using to run the Opticon 6. Been looking at a few Yamaha AS1200 or AS2100 but the beast is to deep for my unit. Marantz 8006 and Roksan Caspian or K3 and Cambridge Audio cx81.

    • @geezerintotech
      @geezerintotech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi David. Hope you're enjoying your Opticons!
      I have used so many amps with the Opticon 6. For the most time, I used a Yamaha Aventage 3070, which was the top AV amp you could buy before the range moves into separates.
      I have also used a whole range of amps over the years from AV amps to stereo amps (I think I put this in the description if you're interested).
      By far the best amplifier is one of the new Class D power amps I have by Hypex (252 model). Very clean, detailed, and the bass is supremely controlled....really brings out the best of the Opticons, but it can be a tad edgy sometimes with bad recordings.
      Have you seen the new Hypex amplifiers? They are modern Class D's basically with the aim of sounding like Class A's

    • @davidmelia7819
      @davidmelia7819 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geezerintotech Thanks for the reply. I have not seen the hypex amps. Can they be used in conjuction with an AV amp with volume control bypassed. Will have a good look at them. It also comes down to unit size, if its a beat like the Yamaha it wont fit in my AV unit.

    • @geezerintotech
      @geezerintotech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidmelia7819 They are very small, efficient power amplifiers. You'd need to connect it to a separate pre-amplifier which would be controlling the volume. You'd probably be able to use your current amplifier as the pre-amp. As long as the pre-amp circuitry and the DAC you have is of decent quality, an upgrade to a Hypex design will be clearly noticeable I think.
      NC252 model - you can get I believe either 150w or 200w a channel into 8ohm. Much more power than regular A/B amps, much smaller and less heat produced, much higher damping factor.
      The traditional Class D traits have been ironed out and these really are the 'real deal' at a fraction of the price of Class A's.
      I think I'll be reviewing mine soon but got a lot on at the moment so just trying to get through that workload! However, would recommend you add that to the shortlist and possibly get a home demo if you can!

      @geezerintotech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidmelia7819 Hi David. Yes, it should work. I use the pre-amp of my Yamaha Aventage 3070 with the Hypex power amp. So what this gives me excellent amplification of the front left/right speakers. This makes music sound better when in stereo mode (and movies too).
      The rest of the speakers in my system (the centre and surrounds) are powered by the Yamaha's power amplifier.
      The setup is a bit more complicated, but when you get it done it is more versatile (for my needs anyway)

    I demoed these speakers using an Audiolab 6000A and was really impressed by them i thought they sounded fantastic the bass output was reallyimpressive, i now have a Hegel H90 so its a fairly decent upgrade in sound quality from the Audiolab 6000A, so i would be interested to hear these speakers on my Hegel H90.
    One thing i wasn't to keen on was how unstable and wobbly the speakers were on the tiny outrigger feet they have.
    Has this been an issue for you?

    • @geezerintotech
      @geezerintotech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Harry. That amp is very nice for the price - a good match for the Dalis I think.
      Bass is really nice with the Opticon 6, I agree. It's not the most timely bass in the world, but boy does it get you grooving!
      I can't say I have heard the Hegel H90. But I have heard the Dali Opticons on a range of equipment. I think I put this in the description.
      The best I've heard my Dalis sound was using a modern Class D Hypex nc252. Have you heard that amplifier? Very clean and powerful sound. I think the Dali got a bit brighter when compared to something like a Yamaha AS-801, but the sound quality upgrade is impressive. The control that amp has over the bass is unbelievable. The soundstage (it was incredible before) was also improved to a whole new level.
      I have to say the speaker is a bit wobbly when using the included plinth, but I wouldn't say it's really wobbly compared to other speakers. I'd say it's kinda average on the wobble front. Why are you worried about this; do you have pets or young children or something? I guess I would be a bit worried under those sorts of conditions.

    Dude! I thought I was the only one liking my Dali Opticon 6! I had these babies for almost three years and after trying Epicon 6s I was left speechless how close these Opticon babies come (in my view 70% of the speaker if you could but number on sound LOL).
    By the way just keep doing what you're doing man. Yes reviews are slightly on longer side but cover all what is needed to be heard without using the buzz words that reviewers usually use to try to sell you a product. Great work and just keep doing what are you doing!
    Lastly if I mays ask for your opinion, I'm looking to purchase a subwoofer for music and movies 70 %music 30% Movies. Yamaha SW901 seems like a great deal for £550 new but I never heard it. My other consideration was Rel T9i, HT1205 or even 1508 aka predator. Only heard T7i so would appreciate you thoughts on this dilemma. hey mate thank you for the kind comments (it really helps me stay committed to making these videos!)
      I agree with you - the Opticon range is such a sweet spot for price/performance. I don't get when people say they don't like them - I honestly think this speaker is something that you can listen to for hours upon hours and be really happy. I think some other manufacturers use sonic techniques to draw people to speakers (one technique is increasing the treble as it gives the illusion that it's more 'hifi'). But these Opticons just get it right for me - I honestly love them to bits.
      The Epicon 6s are also a dream speaker of mine. Of course the value is not there because they're so expensive - but boy..the finish on those bad boys! I love the red wood colour (i think ruby macasar?).
      So, you're looking for a subwoofer? It's so funny...that yamaha you mention in your comment..I have just tried the SW901 a few weeks back. There wasn't much information on it so I thought it was a bit of a risk. I found an open box one so I knew it could be returned. Ended up returning it...I will tell you what...I'll make a video about this subwoofer so I can explain in more detail. I'll explain more about the other subwoofers!

    • @geezerintotech
      @geezerintotech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ludointhemix hmm that's an interesting question my my man!
      If you say you have a 30sqm room and you like deep frequencies with detailed midrange, I'd be going for either the Opticon 6 or the Rubicon 6 (you notice they have the ribbon tweeter unit and the smaller bookshelves don't). I heard the Rubicons recently before lockdown and they're very sweet. Is it better than Opticon 6? Maybe..but it depends on your room and it depends on your source (like are you using the best quality music from Tidal or are you using compressed music). It also depends on the quality of your amplification and source components.
      If you don't mind spending the money on the amp and other components, then my preference would be for the Rubicon 6. It's maybe 10% better in my estimation if I had to give you a number. But the thing I like about the Rubicon is that it looks and feels more like a premium speaker. The Opticon range is a bit cheap-looking compared because they had to make sacrifices with the build quality and still give you a good sound. With the Rubicon, you pay the extra money and you get a better quality cabinet.
      I have never heard (in person) those ATCs you mentioned but boy..ATC is a great brand. I am into music engineering and ATC is one of the best studio monitor companies out there. They make very neutral speakers and they have a fantastic sealed model which you can check out if you want cleeeeeaaaan audio. Check out ATC speaker measurements online..there is a website called audiosciencereview where you can get some more info on how these speakers operate. Dynaudio is another revered brand in the music tech space like ATC.
      It all depends what you want really? Do you want it to sound musical or do you want it to sound cleeeeaaan. There's a difference especially if you're listening to it in a normal living space.
      In a normal living space without acoustic treatment, I'd be tempted to go for the Dalis because these guys engineer their loudspeakers to sound musical in living rooms (Dali's slogan is 'In Admiration of Music').
      Hifi is a very personal thing mate :)

      I always used to start with the speakers and build around that, but I've been better off recently starting with the amplifier first. At this point you should then demo your speakers on your chosen amplifier and see which one is the best fit for your room acoustics!
