@@CoasterConnections I used to give other visitors advice to try it near sunset. The lines were usually much shorter and instead of screams during the roll out and heartline roll, you heard oos and ahs. The skies would be absolutely beautiful,
Haunted River was my favorite, the detached head that would guide you through your trip, the props, the colors used to put the ambient moods of the ride, wow that just brought back memories
I love this. I stared going every year for 10 years with my family, when I was 5 years old, in 1976. This brought back a lot of happy memories. Thank you so very much.
Love the video. Only thing I think might be wrong is the tidbit about the Volcano station. You loaded inside the mountain. That station was used for the former Haunted River ride. The lower level was a Volcano gift shop with the upper level being a bullpen for the queue before heading inside the mountain and working your way down to the station.
I hated roller coasters, but then my Girl Scouts, said screaming helps….my my they were right, later my screams turned into hoop da do! Later they called me the Anaconda Mama.
Awesome video! And I have ridden every single one of those rides. Hurler was unusually brutal. Even in early years, I got a bloody knee...but in later years it was like riding an earthquake. So glad it got the RMC treatment!!
Thanks man! I’ve only ever ridden Twisted Timbers and its sister at Carowinds has been closed on my visits. Ridding like an earthquake made me laugh, great analogy! 🤣
Wow this brought back a ton of memories! I forgot about the Haunted River! I remember the Avalanche over there. The Outer Limits is one of my all time favorites. How can it not be. I remember being at the park right around the time when someone died on the Shockwave. They stupidly pulled their arms out of the restraints I believe and fell out. I never knew of that first ride Galaxie that was on the same plot of land where the Shockwave was and that somebody previously had died on it since my first time going to the park (that I can remember) was when Anaconda opened.
Nicely put together with some great nostalgia. Rare footage from the Land of Dooz and Diamond Falls. Just some honorable mentions here, that wasn't mentioned. Racing Rivers, Sky Pilot, Apple Turnover, The Time Shaft, Sky Ride and of course the beloved Yogis Cave. But overall, great job.
Wow! Sky Pilot, Apple Turnover, Time Shaft and Yogi’s Cave references! I feel like I’m a kid again. I’ll never forget the tilted floor as you left Yogi’s cave as if you were drunk. The best!
Diamond Falls, remembering standing on the bridge getting splashed as the boats shot down the drop. Then you had the older smaller Log Ride, or White Water Canyon...awesome rides during those summer trips to KD
There were so many fun rides at KD,yet imo if you were able to get to Williamsburg Bush Gardens had two great rides. The Big Bad Wolf and the Lochness Monster. Loved flying through the makeshift village of The Big Bad Wolf.
@ really appreciate the time and effort you put in because while some people may just see a little video for some of us this was a walk down memory lane! For me, I had actually completely forgotten about Shockwave, it was cool having my memory jogged like that. Do you live near the park? I have lived in Maryland my whole life other than for 5 years where I lived in Japan so I have visited Kings Dominion, Six Flags America, Hershey Park, and as a small kid Dutch Wonderland a ton! Anyway thanks again!!
Thank you so much. I’m sharing a passion I have for theme park history and love that people enjoy what I do. If you can’t tell from my accent, I’m actually from England. I grew up in the 90’s obsessed with theme parks, especially US parks I had seen on this new invention “the internet”. Eventually getting to visit as I got older and they didn’t disappoint!
Remember in a cave the spinning room where the floor dropped a foot or so and we stuck to the wall. I was very nervous the first time I rode it, the cave was very humid in the summer, and yes remember Smurf and Haunted River. I was brave enough to ride Shockwave but never Berserker
03:28 Hello from Brazil. Stopping by to talk a little about Katapul. In 2021, the contract with Warner Bros was finalized and Katapul, as well as its thematic area, was uncharacterized. At the end of 2022, a major renovation of the attraction was announced for 2023. The roller coaster had all its parts, bearings, engines replaced and the launch system is practically the same as the factory one. Five sections of rails (2 at the base of the loop and 3 more at the beginning of the front spike) were changed and even gained new colors, pink rails and cyan supports. Two million were spent on this renovation. Hopi Hari has a fictional country theme. Katapul is located in the capital of this country called Aribabiba (a word created from Hopês, a fictional language for the fictional country and which means “living life with joy”). Katapul has become this region's time machine and I assure you that this darling is in good hands and is much loved.
Thank you for this! I appreciate you taking the time to share the detailed information and local knowledge about this ride. I visited Alton Towers when it was located there, but can't remember if I rode or not so don't include it on my count. Maybe I need to come to Brazil to experience it!
Theres an old rapids type ride near grizzley. You can barely make out the path. However theres no history on it. So either it was never finished or opened and closed quick enough for no one to document it enough
Little known fact: The green train at Busch Gardens Williamsburg - The Alpengeist Express, is the train from Lakeside Park, the park that used to be in my home town of Salem Virginia. Just a bit of very little known history. FYI: Lakeside Park in Salem Virginia was home to the once longest, tallest, fastest roller-coaster in the world...The Shooting Star. Only eventually beaten by the Screamin Eagle at Six Flags St Louis. But, the Screamin Eagle was built on a hill, so the Shooting Star actually still had the tallest structure.
@@CoasterConnections Yeah. The Screamin' Eagle was made by the same person who made Shooting Star...John Allen if memory serves. Their layouts were almost identical. I'd love to get the Six Flags to ride it. Be like nostalgia riding the Shooting Star again. :)
For senior skip day, we went to KD and rode SM 3 times in a row. The next day we made "I survived Smurf Mountian '88" t shirts. That's all I have to say.
They did not want to remove it. Originally Anaconda was planned to be removed that same year. Intamin inspected Volcano and stated that much of the track would need to be replaced, requiring the removal of the structure to do so. This made the costs significantly higher than what they expected, and so that decision was made Editing, sorry though you said Volcano for some reason LMAO. I have no idea why Tornado was removed

I’m 50 years old and this video made me a kid again. I loved the Haunted River. The King Cobra was the first upside down coaster I ride in my life.
I’m so glad I could bring back some memories! It’s fun to see how the park has changed!
I'm 33 and I feel the same way. I miss a lot of these old rides.
Haunted River was my favorite, the detached head that would guide you through your trip, the props, the colors used to put the ambient moods of the ride, wow that just brought back memories
This was great!!!
The park or my video? 😅
@ The video. 😀👏🏾🎊🎉
I am 53 years old and so happy to have rode all those nostalgic roller coasters at Kings Dominion
Congrats on a full house! Thank you for watching!
I was able to ride the Volcano as well as the Shockwave once. I'm very excited for Rapterra opening next year 🙌 😅
Me too! I have a visit planned for early June so will probably miss the opening.
The Shockwave was my favorite ride as a kid. I was so upset when they announced they were taking it down.
I love this. I stared going every year for 10 years with my family, when I was 5 years old, in 1976. This brought back a lot of happy memories. Thank you so very much.

I actually really loved the hurler! It was rough but so fun lol I guess I’m an unpopular opinion though 😂
I thought The Grizzly was rougher, but it was a far more interesting ride. Hurler had a remarkable generic layout.
