But if you are enjoying yourself, who cares about mpg! I love my WRX as a commuter. I make 9 hour trips to Atlanta about once a month and get 28-30 mpg. Only complaint is the seat gets a little uncomfortable, I have the base and there is no lumbar adjustment. Other than that all😃😃😄
2019 STI with SPT exhaust otherwise stock. I get 18 combined. 16 city 3 miles to work. 22-23 highway at 75 mph. 24 mpg at 65 mpg. If mpg is a larger concern get the WRX. In my 2018 WRX I got 24 mpg combined. 22 city and 27 highway at 75-80 mph. Wrx is definitely the better daily.
Well put. I relate to you in your videos. I remember I got 370miles on one tank in my 11 WRX, but usually got 320-330miles per tank... The car was super healthy at the time, and I drove it a little too close to fumes for my usual liking on that particular tank.. I haven't gotten 300 yet on a tank in the STI, but haven't needed to... The computer says I've averaged 22.5mpg over the total life of the car for whatever that's worth... I don't always speed, but most of the time when I do, I'm slowing down. This car can move and maneuver about but doesn't like higher speeds so much. I'd imagine the gearing in the current WRXs are more suited for efficiency on the highway, whereas the STI is ready to boost! I have found the STI's 6th to be almost exactly the same gearing as the 11 WRX's 5th gear at 70. if anything the STI is minutely shorter. Yea, right at 2000rpms at 50mph for both. The WRX had lightweight wheels and a lightweight crank pulley that helped 2-3mpg consistently, but I could get a disciplined 30mpg before that in it. It just wasn't fun driving like that... I don't think I've gotten 26mpg yet in the STI, even when driving efficiently, but its a consistent 24 with playtime.. basically stock, as in I got some door cup protectors and added some sound deadening... I am looking to get a cf driveshaft which I think can have a similar effect as well as give me other improvements, then maybe some lighter wheels. Did you notice a difference after changing your wheels? These oem wheels are a drag... so heavy... From a drivers standpoint, I believe a main reason the STI gets worse mileage by default is the spoiler and closer gear ratios. The system of the components are dynamically opposed to mpg. For me, the downforce and stability difference of having spoiler versus not, is greatly noticed behind the wheel, and though I don't necessarily enjoy the aesthetics, I can actually respect the nature of a proper spoiler now that I've owned and driven a car with one.
I have a friend that shows a little jealousy when comparing his WRX to my STI. If I can do it again, I think I would go with the WRX. Mileage is a key factor with me and all I really do is commute to and from work. Then again, if I had gotten the WRX, I'm sure if be the same way. Grass is always greener scenario.
I’m in the trucking industry and so is my brother...he does tankers (fuels gas stations) he says most gas stations don’t order the correct amount of fuel they need. What tends to happen is a gas station will order too much regular for example....which they end up dumping into the medium or premium tanks 😐. Surprisingly he told me Speedway always orders the correct amount of fuel so they never have to run into that issue where they taint premium...
