I had one of those when I was about 19. I was always deeply envious back then of the bikers screaming round on GSXthou's and Z1's etc, cos that's what I really wanted. It was generally a good bike. The camshaft bearing went on one side at one point so it continually rattled as it ran. I got a new head for it and put it on. It was only a single so it was simple enough. Sorted. My bike was the 'deluxe' version with the electric starter. Sounds good, but it didn't have the kick start mechanism fitted. And the bl**dy thing never started on the electric starter! I had to keep jump starting it all the time. I got so sick of it that I decided to get a kick start mechanism from a breakers, and shove it in the engine, so I could start it with the kick starter (look I was 19 okay). So I took the engine out, dismantled it and put a secondhand kickstart mechanism in it. Put it back in the bike (I just shoved it in by hand - nearly killed my back) and jumped on the kick start. STARTED FIRST TIME!!! Yahayyy, done it! Then had an immediate sinking feeling as I heard a continual clicking sound as it turned over. I'd left the return spring off the kickstart mechanism and the ratchet was permanently engaged. D'OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH! I sold it after that............😆😆😆
@WessexBladesHandMadeKnives get another! Dirt cheap to run, and bags of fun! Plus you can watch the world at a sensible speed, and less like your pants are on fire 🤣
Back in the 80's I had a chance to ride a CB250rs and was impressed how quick it was but it literally felt like nothing when sitting on it compared to my GS1000S. I would certainly get one now if one came up for sale. Excellant little all rounder in my opinion. Good vid brings back happy memories LIKE N SUB.
@@BikesCarsandChat Had a few. Honda H100, CX500, CBR954 Fireblade, Suzuki GS450, GSXR750K8, Yamaha Thundercat. R6, R1. Said goodbye to M/bikes a while ago one more would end in divorce. Fireblade and Gixer were my favs. Had endless fun on the GS450.
@@BikesCarsandChat 1982 coming back from Goodwood to Glasgow on my GS450 with throw over bags into a block head wind I was overtaken by a guy on a RS. He was sat on the pillion seat lying flat across the tank giving it the berries
I loved my RS. I bought it in 1987, and rode it for the next 15 years. The only modification I made, was to fit it with Superdream wheels (also with cush drive), so I could use tubeless tyres. I used Dunlop Arrowmax tyres exclusively, and the bike handled beautifully. I averaged 10,000 to 12,000 miles a year, and with just regular oil changes and basic maintenance, it never missed a beat. There were very few parts of the UK I didn't tour on this bike. Thanks for the video. You got yourself a sub. 😀
@@nok22m thanks! Sounds like you need another one in your life 😉 Mine has a decent cush drive in the rear. A Suzuki GN250 rear hub laced with stainless spokes to an RS rim 👍
@bananabrooks3836 why Honda didn't fit a filter is just unbelievable 😳 I check the balancer tension each time I take the clutch cover off to check the daft gauze 'filter'. A pain, especially every 1,000 miles!
First bike after passing my test in 94 was one of those. Rode it from Liverpool to London in 96 to see the Sex Pistols in Finsbury Park. Happy Memories.
Had 2 rs 250s 1st bikes after passing test. I live in castletown caithness where your bike came from. I know the old guy who had rs. I kept meaning to go look at it but never got round to it. Wil tell him about your vid, he will love it!
@patrickdoake6022 that would be superb!!! Let him know it's having a whole new lease of life, and took me around Wales in the summer. The old black bodywork now lives in a friend's RS, which was in a previous video. Cheers, it's much appreciated 😁👍
I bought one of these new back in the day. I had passed my test and ordered a new Suzuki GS425 from one of the discount dealers in Manchester I think it was. I should have checked what the insurance was before placing the order as I could not afford it! I ended up getting a Yamaha XS250 instead but that was a terrible bike in every way. The Yamaha had less than 1000 miles on the clock when I traded it in for the RS. The RS was a brilliant bike but I did end up needing something faster after a few years as I was riding with a bunch of other people in the college bike club.

@@alexguest9937 a great story! Yes, the added kick starter is a common mod to those with a DX 👌 Still time to re-live your yoof 😉
@@BikesCarsandChat Naaah, not this time. SV650 for me!
@alexguest9937 I have a few bikes, the RS is the oldest and the slowest, it's also the one I ride the most!
I had one like that in blue, wish I still had it but could never quite afford to keep it on the road , but the new owner loved it just as much...

my first bike was an RS. Fond memories.
Still a big RS community, and quite a few bikes are available! Plus, spares are easy to find as well 😉

Lovely ride. The scenery looks idyllic.

Lusted after one of these when they first came out. Much better looking than the Superdream,, better handling simply a far better bike. Nice one,

@jacksorted9115 sounds like a typical despatch rider! 🤣 They killed so many poor RS's by caning them flat out, mile after mile, with zero sympathy!
Enjoyed the video, thank you for that, put a smile on my face.
Thanks Ray, that's much appreciated 👏 😒
Had a blue 1980 250rs, cracking little bike . Bought it brand new for 759 pounds , wish I kept it.

@Roger_Ramjet you'd better get on eBay now then 😜👍 Thanks for watching 👍
