Wanting to scream it isn't a saddle stitch if you don't do the wrap around but then Brian said "people love us until we do what they know how to do." Now all I can do is sit here and steam.
I make knives and the leather sheaths for them. I made my own stitching pony out of scrap materials I had laying around. And it took maybe an hour to make and Ive used it for 5 years now with zero modifications. the handiest tool my my leather working stuff.
About a year after I started leather working I got into slingshots and I made so many ammo pouches just because it was fun and whenever I used the new one I found something I could have done better so I made another

The wax (formally known as thread conditioner) is primarily for ease of use but it can be for longevity depending on the thread composition and its intended use (i.e. it's not good for natural fibres or for fine work like embrodery*). Realistically speaking, if you have a good thread from a good company, you shouldn't need wax to make it work. *Unless you're coating it yourself with 100% beeswax. Silicone based coatings will do much more harm than good for your threads. Tbh as far as leatherworking goes, you'll end up waxing the thread yourself anyway when you clean and wax your leather soooo kinda pointless to use pre-waxed thread or even wax it yourself.
Chuck Dorsett is an amazing resource on you-tube for learning leather working. He's the reason I got into the craft to begin with
Dude, that is awesome. I never thought I would want to try leather working but now I do.

It’s just a running saddle stitch. Not a locking saddle stitch.

Shouldn't you always stitch towards yourself? Maybe lock in the end of your thread by piercing the needle through it?... among other things?
