Ethiopian woman turns recycled tires into global brand

The producer of the handcrafted and ecofriendly global footwear brand, soleRebels, which turns recycled tires and local materials into shoes in one of the dirt-poor neighborhoods of the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, is expanding production to meet the growing global demand.
SoleRebels is a story of its founder, Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu, who is a 36-year-old mother of three. The company, which produces different models of men and women slip-ons, sandals and laced up shoes, was founded in 2004.
The brand is sold in 50 countries worldwide through online and retail outlets.
