If you think about it Bill is actually kind of a catch:
    - He's love starved so he'd never cheat on you. He'd literally worship the ground you walk on
    - He has a great government job and thus government benefits (pension, good insurance, et cetera)
    - He not only owns his own home, he's lived there long enough that it's quite possibly close to being paid off
    - He actually has a general skill set
If he broke out of his depression he'd likely lose weight and take better care of his physical appearance. The right woman just has to take a gamble on him and could hit the jackpot.

The episode where he sneaks behind Anne Richards back to whisper sweet words to Lenore puts that first point into question. That was, of course, a direct result of Lenore's manipulation, and she is the 'woman' he married after all. But even then, ya know?

I don't know if I'm remembering correctly but I swore I read an article from the KOTH writers stating that Bill couldn't win. Their whole shtick was that Bill always had to be the loser. I guess that explains why the relationship between him and Laoma never went anywhere. It's sad if that's the truth.

    • @StarViewer68

This could mean that Lenore obviously never cared about Bill (not bothering to remember his birthday), but rather used him for her own selfish purposes. Considering that many bank accounts have security questions like “what is your mother’s maiden name?” & a social security number is a common identifier, I could definitely see Lenore skimming money out of Bill’s bank account or committing identity theft by pretending to be Bill.

In this case Lenore was well executed. The Koth showmakers are people you can trust to handle this kind of thing. We learn for a fact that she was a realistically wicked person by her appearance. Otherwise, you always consider if there is anything redeeming or reasonable about her personality and role in Bill's self-destruction. the biggest issue, especially in the USA, is that alot of people don't put in the time to vet the people they're dating. You need to experience what it's like with someone behind closed doors and when they're in times of stress. Regardless of gender, a narcissist can regrettably ruin your life and absolutely ruin your self-esteem and leave you thinking it's your fault. For some reason [which narcissists love to take advantage of] alot of people think that if you've been together for a year, then you have to get married or whatever but is a year really enough to truly know someone and see them for who they are?

Given KotH's, let's say, decline in the later seasons, it kind-of frustrated me that they just dropped the whole line with Khan's mother being his girlfriend. I know KotH wasn't that well known for changing character dynamics, but c'mon. Cotton died, Peggy changed jobs, Tilly got a new boyfriend, *Lucky married Luanne*, so they clearly weren't against it. I feel robbed that they never even brought up why she just disappeared. Nursing homes can't be that hard to leave!

Also, I would think with Lenore's reputation and behavior, she wouldn't be on good terms or easily be in touch or able to get a hold of - especially with Bill's friends and neighbors. It seemed too convenient that she was able to get on the phone at a crucial moment.
It seems that even episode summaries online state she was actually on the phone with Peggy, but we can only go off with what Peggy claimed and it isn't proven to be true. It felt to me that Peggy made it up to remind Bill how terrible Lenore is.

Like Bill, I had an ex-lover who never loved me and disrespected me through her silent treatment.
This video has taught me to never forget all the reasons my relationship with her soured and it also taught me what love isn't through my experience her.

I truly don't understand why Bill fell in love with her to begin with, she's completely for the streets, the sidewalks, the curb, all of that, she left when Bill was at rock bottom and only came back when he was doing great, she completely ruined his life in more ways than one, and probably the most important thing, she looks and sounds like she's in her mid 50's or 60's. That's at least 10-20ish years over Bill, and everyone else. I personally wish he did a little more than just moon her.

It should also be mentioned that apparently there was a deleted scene from the episode "Sirloin with Love" where Bill pulls out a piece of cake from their wedding, and then he smells the stake coming from Hank's house. He then throws out the piece of cake and heads over to Hank's house, which finally gives him the closure he so desperately needed. It's definitely a shame this scene was cut because Bill deserved so much better even with his one-off episodes

Nancy isn't cruel or evil, she's weak. she doesn't want to give up John Redcorn but she also doesn't want to have to hurt Dale by telling him the truth. I'd argue that Nancy isn't a hateable character though because she genuinely loves Dale and Joseph and frankly she doesn't put up much fuss for all the shit Dale does because at the end of the day he's a good husband and father. Infidelity is a breach of trust and is inherently bad, but it isn't an act that absolutely must destroy a relationship. king of the hill has pretty nuanced depictions of characters. we all know hank is a stand up guy, but he is also often very stubborn and often sabotages his own relationship with his son because it is so difficult to get him to understand or accept new things. Peggy can often be completely ignorant and self-absorbed, but a lot of that comes from her inherent desire to help people. she often comes off as bossy or stupid but it comes from a genuine place of compassion, i think. Bill can be a complete asshole when his desire for love and attention supersedes his loyalty to his friends, but we all know bill is a good dude. i dunno! i just think koth is a great show that deserves better than to just Hate well written characters besides the ones that are pretty flat villains used to move an episode forward like lenore or luanne's parents

Bill really was a great guy in his youth before Lenore destroyed him. He was arguably a collegiate or even professional level Football prospect, He was in the U.S. Army tank division and is seen to be a Sargent, world class chef skills, and even speaks very fluent Cajun French. Bill to me shows the all too common end result of untreated depression and how it will absolutely rob you of your future and potential if it hasn't gotten you to self check out first.

Personally, I think the worst people on the show are all the ones who know about Nancy and John Redcorn and don't say anything to Dale. I'm pretty sure Lenore and Bill were high school sweethearts, just like Nancy and Peggy were for Dale and Hank. They went to homecoming dance together and Lenore mentions that she thinks she should have been Bill's homecoming queen. We also see a girl that looks a lot like her in a high school flashback in Bill's car, hugging Bill before he goes to the Army.
The anecdote about her being passed out in Bill's lap at the concert really sounded more like just a moment in their relationship rather than the beginning of it.

There’s nothing wrong with Bill that some good coping skills and a good therapist can’t fix. There’s other episodes that give us a glimpse of what Bill is capable of when he sets his mind to it. The problem is he doesn’t have a healthy outlet for working through his problems because his friends don’t wear their hearts on their sleeves nor do they have any use for people that do. Hank will be there for him when Bill needs him, but Bill can’t talk to him.
The women in his life don’t treat him with much respect either. I think Ann Richards is the only woman during the entire series run that ever treated him with any kind of respect.

I miss her still and every December I drink hoping to die and one time I was almost successful in vegas but I’m still here sadly but now I drink and smoke the pain away and kill my memories and I’m happy, I may not remember much anymore but I still feel the hurt but I’m fine, I just wish I’m lucky enough one day to find someone who actually cares about me like the girl I let go because of her, I lost someone who truly cared about me for someone who didn’t and I just wish I can get another chance and not lose it I’d be super grateful before it’s too late for me

Lenore is a terrible person as proven when the viewers FINALLY get to see her only when Bill gets close to someone with power. THAT should tell you just enough of the type of person she is which makes it so sad that Bill was pulled into that type of relationship and never fully recovered from it.
And let's just say that Bill PRETENDING to be Lenor was doing her too good. She made her out to be such a nice person....when we know otherwise. And I can only imagine how uncomfortable it was hearing the two fight, considering that Lenore would have been the instigator in a lot of those confrontations.
