Michael Amott, the band founder wrote not long ago when they celebrated their 25y anniversary that the lyrics do relate a bit to the change of vocalist. "Backs against the wall, in danger of losing it all." This was one of the first songs after the vocalist change. Nick Cordle is on lead guitar here (second solo). Jeff Loomis took over in Nov 2014. Michael Amott usually does the melodic stuff.😁
Instant thumbs-up. Once again; thanks for reacting AE mr. Heretic! This song got me hooked to this band back in 2015 when this was released. The double headed monster of those two guitars had fascinated me for long before, but Alissa's vocals was something new and bit more easy to listen to a person not so familiar with harsh vocals, compared to Angela's very aggressive sound. Of what I love to listen these days also. I have to remind that this is maybe 7 years old recording.
Alissa have got better over the years and she has always sounded even better on live, IMHO.

Enemy Within is one of the most iconic Arch Enemy songs back from 2001. It's the first AE and metal song Alissa ever heard. It got her into the genre, as well as many other fans. Before that album came out Arch Enemy was only really famous in Japan. This song and album got lots of attention world wide. Cheers!

The first guitar solo felt a little disconnected from the song and it felt like it was "added in short pieces" rather than naturally go along with a song, but the second one was good, it felt like it belongs there.
