Liver Pool honestly I like the hornady black. For the distance and game I like it. It would do good on the smaller frame deer down there. Really wouldn’t need anything bigger. My opinion of course.
I’ve shot my Grendel out to 1100yds several times and all between. Granted it does take long to hit at Distance but it gets there and groups are surprising good. I was comparing it to a 6.5 creedmore
I think that the 6.5 Grendel is one of the best all around calibers for an AR15 platform. I wished that it would have caught on much more than it has. Also the more ammo that is produced and sold in any caliber the lower the cost of that ammo.
I agree 110%. I can't believe it has been out so long, and I hadn't found out about it. Perfect for long range target shooting, and can take game with reasonable efficiency.

Wish you would have used a 20" Grendel barrel, as that's an upgrade I'm looking to possibly make. To all of you thinking of getting into the 6.5 , be careful of where you get your mags. There are two main makers, one works fine while every mag I got from the other needed to have some work done to it. Rounds kept hitting the front lip when chambering. I found that getting 762X39 mags for an AR work great. Haven't had a round jam on the front lip yet. Grendel uses a necked down 762 case so no problem there. There's also a third option, called a 'multimag'. As to ammo, yes Virginia, the Grendel costs more to shoot. Pre freak out was @75 cents a round, lucky now if I can find under a dollar rounds. Whereas I can still get 556 for around 50 - 60 cents a round. Will the Grendel replace the 556 as America's sweetheart? I don't think so. The 556 is the girl next door while the 6.5 is the prep school blonde hottie across the tracks. 762X39 [AR-47} is the tattooed chick from the pool hall, smokin a Camel and drinkin a PBR. She'll give you a ride, but you AIN'T bringin her home to Mom & Dad.
Get the Elander mags in 6.5 Grendel. Israeli made steel mags. By far the best mags for 6.5 grendel. Not a single issue with mine and they come in 10 rd, 17 rd and 26 rd capacities.
I try to consolidate calibers as much as possible. CZ making the 527 in 6.5 Grendel makes it a very versatile choice in a state that only allows manual rifles for hunting. 95 gr V-max for varmint and predator and 123 SST for deer. Plus it started my hand loading obsession, so Yay new hobbies
I am wanting to add the CZ to my stable as well. The 100gr Barnes TTSX are my go-to projectile, loaded with either Benchmark, or Leverevolution powder. CCI SRM primers, as my hunting loads are all standardized and developed with magnum primers. Now if I could find nickel plated Grendel brass..
My first AR was a 556 then I built a 308 didn’t like it was too big then I built a 6.5 creedmoor same as the 308 too big. I then built a 6.5 Grendel If I could only have one AR it would be my Grendel
Been a Grendel fan since about 2009. Anyone that’s built one doesn’t have to ask the question posed on this video.. in fact no one would chose an AR10 in 308 either after using a 6.5 grendel. I have a bunch of rifles and by far the most fun to shoot is an AR15 chambered in 6.5 Grendel. I built mine with a 20” lilja barrel (got in on the first AR barrel buy he made in Grendel) with an Alexander Arms side charging upper and matched lower receiver set.
Truly appreciate your time in helping others to make educated decisions on the subject. Former military myself. Hunting since 8 years old. Now 48 and am still shooting and hunting. Great no nonsense approach on the cartridge , and now a subscriber on your website 👍. God bless you and stay safe.
@@czts4778 That was a shilen barrel, and it was an upper from alexander arms, I don't think they offer those anymore I think they use Saturn barrels now. Though I Have heard good things about them. Just so you know I think I just got lucky as hell with that one.
Could have not said it any better I built all my ars from parts kits for custom needs .223/5.56 is set up as a millspec plinker my 6.5 grendle is hunting/ long range and my 7.62x39 is my brush gun
I had an AR-10 I hunted deer with in Michigan. Shoulder replacement had me getting rid of it. Already had a 5.56 however it is not legal to hunt deer with a .22 caliber projectile, the 6.5 Grendel however is legal so now I have one of those as well. Yes, having both IS a good idea, the 5.56 is great for coyotes.
I love the 6.5 G but I'm seriously considering moving away from the AR platform and setup a 6.5 G bolt rifle. The way I usually shoot my Grendel doesn't require semi-auto action. For get up and go with rifle and ammo considering availability the 5.56 is still my go to.
I know this comment is 10mo old but here’s my opinion. Now that the CZ is discontinued for the 6.5 Grendel the best option factory wise is Howa 1500 Mini. I bought a barreled action 20” heavy barrel from Brownells. Married it to a Elf Owl chassis with AR stock adapter and a Magpul PRS lite. It’s a damn good rifle. Light enough but produces .5 MOA at 100 for me. I’m getting about 1” once I get out past 300.
Used a friend's at the range, researched it, built it, LOVE it, sold my 308!!! At my age, and with shoulder problems, I needed less recoil. Grendel is well named! It's a beast!!! Stocked up before Obadin! Due to recent events, I'm carrying more than usual. If certain people get frisky, I'm ready to party. Preferably, they'll leave an old phart ALONE.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I also meant to add, Duramag makes mags that can interchange! The 28rd 7.62X39mm mag, and 26 rd Grendel and 6.8 SPC can use each others mags! Some friends and I discovered this at the range one day; noticing how these mags have the exact same exterior measurements. So we swapped, loaded, fired and had fun while we tested them. Later, when I couldn't find mags for the first two calibers, I bought some for the 6.8, and, as expected, _they worked great for both my calibers!_ I hope this helps someone with their supply problems.
Awesome video!! I am a Grendel fanatic myself!! Truly a joy to shoot and load for!! Can’t leave out my Creedmoor either!! Keep the great content coming especially if it includes the 6.5 gas guns!!
Sold my Grendel gas gun, but picked up a Ruger ranch 6.5G. I like the 10 round mag, use a leupold xv6 1-4x, and an OSS Helix suppressor. For sure one of my favorite to load and shoot. Been quite effective on hogs out to 200 yards, and hope to drop a whitetail with it this coming season.
It is simply a way to evaluate your shots on target at distance. Hold on the waterline and if your group is low, dial up or vise versa. It helps you determine your exact drop data for each distance. You can then take your findings and tweak your ballistic computer to match.
Great video! Put a lot into prospective. Each caliber now makes more sense when considering purpose based on distance and energy. One thing you got wrong at the end of the video is when you said “choosing”. NO! No choosing! Must have both!
.223/5.56 from 16" barrel has no trouble hitting a full sized silhouette target at 500 yards with iron sights. But gotta love the 3x energy delivery a 123gr 6.5 Grendel bullet can land at that 500 yard distance!!!
Question: What would the POA vs POI be for the 36 yard zero with the grendel? We have no decent ranges in the area, best I can do is maybe set up a target at 50 yards or less...
It really depends on ammo, barrel, velocity, and other things. Roughly speaking however, if you zeroed at 30y, you should have minimal drop at 300y. Doing that though, you’re almost 5” high at 100y. Could cause issues for fast head shots. It’s overall easier to use this method with a standard AR and 5.56. A grendel really should be zeroed at 100y like most other long range rifles. Then just memorize your drop data out to 500 yards or so, and you’re golden.
Hard to find magazines that will work well with the 6.5. Mine needed work on the ejector. buffer and gas block. I love the cartridge. Also had to polish and work the feed ramp.
I'm a little torn between getting a 12" Grendel or a 12" 6mm arc. Trouble is Grendel is going pretty slow from a 12" bbl, but it keeps that energy well and has better bullet mass for hunting. 6mm arc is even less efficient in a short barrel but has a lot more starting velocity, so a short barrel will still have fantastic velocity, and even 105 gr bullets have excellent BC in 6mm arc. But Grendel has steel ammo.... i love my 18" Grendel but it's effectively a bench gun. After I got a 12" 350 legend I just LOVE that size, so darn handy.
My 12" Grendel is Home defense, hunting and capable of going out to 800 yards. If hunting is more important than long range shooting, go Grendel. If long range is the priority over hunting, then 6mm arc might serve you better. They both can be effective, but are better at different jobs.
IMO the 6.5 Grendel is the optimal round for CQB and LR shooting. I built a custom AR with 12.5 5R Faxon Match barrel and BCG, Billet 2A upper and lower, SA adj gas block, Aero precision full floating hand guard, VG6 Epsilon brake, Hiperfire Eclipse trigger, bipod, and Accufire Atro-20 2.5-20x56 FFP scope. Mini red dot for CQC. A 12.5" barrel is still lethal out to 800-1000yds.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork Thanks, I appreciate that. Extremely accurate for an Economy build. Sub 1" out to 250yds so far. With quality match ammo. Still does decent with Wolf steel cased 1.5-2.5ish ave with the occasional flyers. Recoil is so light, holding aim is a breeze.
Grendel is a fabulous round for me. Bought a bunch of .264 factory 'junk' rounds to play with. From a 24" Bear Creek, sub MOA with 140+ grain at 250 yards
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork not a bad overview of a video. I think you definitely acknowledged some aspects a lot people tend to overlook without going overboard into it. I just hope a lot of viewers pick that up in this video. Even though you have rifles like the MK18 and DMR 5.56, you picked out a point that most people will have a particular set up and purpose.
Here is a thought: Have a 5.56 10.5-12.5 inch pistol and keep an 18 inch Grendel for swapping out for long range shots. Nothing wrong with a long pistol barrel. Have this combo for the best of both worlds and various applications
Basically 224 flopped. It was launched in the wrong barell twists and was unable to stabilize the 90s. Basically companies rechambered 1:7 223 ar15 barells. It was good with the lighter stuff up to 77s but then it is pointless given a 223 could basically do the same thing. It's since had faster barrels but no one is really interested anymore given the overhyped launch that didn't live up to expectations. Dead caliber for the most part.
@@bmstylee it's not so much a twist rate issue as bad barrels/reamers apparently. Have not seen stabilization issues with the 7 twist ones, unless maybe with the very sleekest 90+grainers like JLK or berger that don't really offer you a whole lot over stuff like the much shorter 90gr SMK, 85.5 HybridTarget, etc
I have the Grendel with an HBAR "20" barrel. Great rifle but that thing is super heavy, like around 8LB without the scope or ammo and well into the 10lb range with scope, bipod and everything. Anyone thinking about doing a 20 inch hbar better be prepared for a pretty hefty rifle. I was surprised by the weight, but I'm still happy with my choice since I have a fairly lightweight 14.5 middy so this one very specialized for precision work.
Yes, it's a load, but less than an AR-10! Grendel likes a long barrel. I see 20" as the minimum. Which is mine in an HBAR too! That said, the Russian Wolf 100 grain FMJ was designed for a 16" barrel. Save your 120+ grain for the long barrel. Use the 100 for training, and shorter barrels. Just my two cents...
@@actionjksn I built a 16" for a girlfriend, who left me a few months later. I kept the carbine! I feed only the 100 grain wolf in it. Anything else would be a waste. The 20" gets the Hornady 123 grain HP. That's Match grade ammo! It rings the 10" gong at 800 yards every time. Gotta love it!
It is simply a way to evaluate your shots on target at distance. Hold on the waterline and if your group is low, dial up or vise versa. It helps you determine your exact drop data for each distance. You can then take your findings and tweak your ballistic computer to match.
The Grendel is probably the best all around chambering for the AR 15 platform. The manufacturing support is there, with the right loads, it delivers .357 magnum energy out to about 750-800 yards, has very manageable recoil, and is capable of excellent accuracy.
6 ARC is the best. Does everything the 6.5 does but better. More velocity, ability to use heavy for cal bullets, similar BC's, able to defeat armor with lighter bullets, and better useable grain weight selection imo.
@@Nick-sx6jm Have you hunted with 6 ARC? It will work but real world results are showing that it's not better. That said, I'm going to get a 6 ARC too. It's on my list. Happy shooting.
Thanks for your nice info-clip Joel, I have several AR-15's and will stick with them since I am not competing nor use them for hunting and since the ammo for the 6.5 is about 2.22 times higher than the .223 / 5.56 which would take the fun out of plinking for me. Take care and keep enjoying plinking!
I like the 6.5 Grendel and already have a 5.56. I am planning on getting another AR-15. I plan on getting another 5.56 to keep the cost down. I already have a dozen 5.56 mags & ammo.
5.56NATO for me...available ammo at low price. In my geographic are, shots are limited to 300 yards or less, with 100 yard shots most likely. If I lived in a more open geographic area, I would most likely choose the 6.5.
I dont see it as a "Pick one" option. Everyone in the US should own at least one 556 rifle for all the reasons you mentioned. 6.5G would be in addition to the 556.
Same thing holding me back. Taken a lot of hogs and yotes out to 400 with a 223 but if I wanted more power it's probably because I'm hunting bigger game and I have bolt guns for that. Ever since I got into creedmoor I haven't really touched my ar15s. I have 2 ar10s in 6.5cm with thermals for the varmints now so the grendel just doesn't fit in to my needs especially with ammo being so close in price. Maybe a general use truck gun in grendel might be a good idea just to have a little more power than 223. Looked at the arc but seen too many reliability issues
I really think that comes down to personal preference. For me, I don't like to drop below about 600-700 ft-lb of energy for killing large game like that. With a standard 55gr .223, this means 250-300 yards max. Bullet design matter too. Something that really expands well is going to be better.
Which is better? They are 2 very different platforms. Both have their uses . AR15 is a combat rifle workhorse if you will. The 6.5 Grendel at 20” is more of a DMR style rig . I have both and use 1 for 0-300 the other I use for 300-1500ish .
"Better" will always depend on what features or characteristics are more important to the individual. I love my 6.5 Grendel, but I also appreciate and use multiple 300 BO and 5.56 uppers depending on my application.
My preference between these two is 6.5 Grendel. But I own various rifles in both cartridges along with 6.8 spc, 6mm ARC, .22 Nosler, .224 Valkyrie etc I don’t plan to be limited
Which of all of those do you like best as a do it all cartridge? Personally I think that the 6 ARC is the perfect combo of weight selection, speed, and ballistics. Can shoot light bullets 3200+ for defeating armor, varmints, or just as a mid range flat shooter and heavies for hunting and long range.

Well done video my friend. Once again thank you for your time people. And your information of the two calibers at hand. Along with your findings, with what could be their best fields of uses. This debate between these two calibers and their usefulness out within the field has been and in some cases still does raise its ugly head, in which one is as good as the other, that the other is a waste of money, shows no real reason for its use, in which the other would not do or give the person the same results. This discussion has been at times a much useless waste of time. Think you again for a well and informative review of these calibers and their best uses in the field. This give the person a much more positive view of what they can expect when using each calibers and in what type of platform to use them in. And what they can now expect from which ever caliber chosen at the time for that platform of uses. Again thank you gentlemen for a well and informative video. Keep them tight.
We have a solid amount of field data on the 6.5Grendel with wild game. For wild game we pretty much exclusively shoot the factory Hornady 123gr SST and a majority of the time use a 24" barreled set up because thats what the box data is based on as they use a 24" test barrel for that so its a fast conversion in the field when we need to. I have killed 1x Elk with a 18" barreled upper at 200yds (head shot) and 3 Antelope with the same upper within 200yds as well. The 24" barreled upper has killed 7+/- Elk, 3x Ibex, 2x Barbary Sheep, 1x White Tail, 1x Mtn Lion, 1x Javelina from 150yds to 480yds. My 15yr old son shot a Cow Elk at 480yds (one shot kill - neck shot) for the longest stretch out of the 6.5Grendel, one Ibex was at 436yds and a Elk and Ibex again at 400yds. Someone documented a Cow Moose kill in AK with a 6.5Grendel and either a 18" or 20" barreled upper at 100yds as well with a one shot kill. The 6.5Grendel has a payload and ballistics to pretty much handle most Big Game as long as Shot Placement and Appropriate Distances are followed. Its an incredibly great caliber for youth hunters, small framed beginner hunters, females, and others because its low recoiling, affordable to shoot alot and get very solid consistent hits with and build confidence with for the needed shot placements. In several states its not legal to hunt with a 5.56 but it is with a 6.5Grendel - CO for example requires a .240Cal or larger for Big Game Hunting and thus a 6.5Grendel is legal to hunt Big Game with, NM allows any center fired caliber but your limited in distance and size of game potentially with the 5.56 if you did hunt with it where as the 6.5Grendel can reasonably handle any Big Game animal in NM. We have a YT Channel as well for hunting with ARs and a MeWe Group. Follow along or Join in and contribute pics and info if you are a Hunter using the AR platform
out of really short barrel AR...I forgot to reset the drop chart for this specific AR in this video. Really doesn't change the "long distance" drops between the two calibers. The grendel still wins. Thanks for watching.
Liked the 6.5G but love the 6Arc. Hard to beat the 80g ttsx out to 200 yds and 103 eldx out to 400yds. Sierra 90g have shot the best groups but haven't harvested anything yet with them.
6.5 Grendel is my go-to caliber in ARs. Deer, hogs, 2 legged varminting, I love it. Nothing against 5.56, I love it, but I love the terminal performance of the Grendel at all sorts of distances. I skipped .308 because it isn't as good for anything I need. I may get a 6.5 PRC, but the Grendel is my tactical round preference.
6.5 is perfect for us wanting more than 5.56 without moving to an ar10 platform. Problem is.. magazines are unreliable. Ammo is ridiculous and it hasn’t been mass adopted so surplus ammo, more spare parts aren’t plentiful. Hopefully the Serbs adopting it speeds this up cause it is a solid round. Won’t usurp the 5.56 but it’s a viable alternative. Once magpul spits out some reliable magazines and ammo costs fall, that’s all it needs.
I don’t have the money for another rifle. I found a complete 6.5 Grendel upper for under 400. Do you think it’s worth the time to switch from 556 and 6.5 Grendel
@@waynebattersby9461 Easy. Two pins. Push them out, upper comes off. New upper on and push pins back in. As long as we're talking about 5.56 to 6.5 Grendel complete uppers. Grendel is the clear winner, but there's something to be said about ammo compatibility, availability, weight, and size. Outside of hunting 5.56 makes more sense for a shooting intensive mission unless you're a designated marksman and even then you should probably step past the grendel to something a little longer range. There's definitely something special about it though, definitely my favorite round.

HaHa that was to funny but so true..
Thanks for the mag info
Get the Elander mags in 6.5 Grendel. Israeli made steel mags. By far the best mags for 6.5 grendel. Not a single issue with mine and they come in 10 rd, 17 rd and 26 rd capacities.

556 is NOT for home defense, and ANY rifle caliber out of half a barrel isn't either.
I bought a CZ 527 in the Grendel after I discovered the caliber from the AR. GREAT round.
Love the CZ pistols...how are the rifles?
I built all of my AR platform rifles and the Grendel is my favorite.
My first AR was a 556 then I built a 308 didn’t like it was too big then I built a 6.5 creedmoor
same as the 308 too big. I then built a 6.5 Grendel If I could only have one AR it would be my Grendel
I want to reload my 30-06 and my grendel using some lapua brass and some noslers.i love my 6.5 that I picked up from BCA, they did not disappoint me
Been a Grendel fan since about 2009.
The 6.5G is awesome i love mine but the 6.8 is even better.

I had a 24 inch grendel upper that was shooting sub one inch groups at 300.
Same here. My 24” Grendel upper shoots .5 moa or better using my hand loads.
What brand of barrel did you used? Thanks
@@czts4778 That was a shilen barrel, and it was an upper from alexander arms, I don't think they offer those anymore I think they use Saturn barrels now. Though I Have heard good things about them. Just so you know I think I just got lucky as hell with that one.
It is a Satern cut rifle barrel. Expensive but it shoots. saternbarrels.net
Love the Grendel. Good range out of an AR 15 platform.
I went with 6 ARC. Grendel is great but bullet choices are not great. Past 600 yards and out the 6 ARC takes over.
For hunting in Texas I just don’t end up using the AR10. The Grendel does everything I need it to and is less weight to lug around.

I had an AR-10 I hunted deer with in Michigan. Shoulder replacement had me getting rid of it. Already had a 5.56 however it is not legal to hunt deer with a .22 caliber projectile, the 6.5 Grendel however is legal so now I have one of those as well. Yes, having both IS a good idea, the 5.56 is great for coyotes.
we were shooting green man targets at ft benning at 300 yards open iron sights with the M16A2
I love the 6.5 G but I'm seriously considering moving away from the AR platform and setup a 6.5 G bolt rifle. The way I usually shoot my Grendel doesn't require semi-auto action. For get up and go with rifle and ammo considering availability the 5.56 is still my go to.
Same thought here.. I bought a cz 527 in 6.5 grendel.. super nice gun.. for other stuff I will use the much cheaper 5.56 in my AR's.
My recent acquisition of a howa 6.5 has been my best choice by far
I just got one too. Affordable and great shooter. I love the mini action
Have 6.5 grendel already but thinking of changing the barrel to 6mm version to increase range and bc
Preferably, they'll leave an old phart ALONE.
nice. agree it's an excellent cartridge.

I also meant to add, Duramag makes mags that can interchange!
Followed you over from TFB Joel, I am a Grendel partisan. Add CMMG out oc Boonville, MO and I couldn't help but to show up!

Honestly just want one to run like a battle rifle
Thank you for the video. Could you please discuss the water line and what it is and how to use it?
It is simply a way to evaluate your shots on target at distance. Hold on the waterline and if your group is low, dial up or vise versa. It helps you determine your exact drop data for each distance. You can then take your findings and tweak your ballistic computer to match.
Okay so split your Target in half with a line put your radical on the line hit high or hit low make adjustments. Cool thank you
erp1776 yep you got it.
Great video! Put a lot into prospective. Each caliber now makes more sense when considering purpose based on distance and energy. One thing you got wrong at the end of the video is when you said “choosing”. NO! No choosing! Must have both!
Grendel is my last AR, if I can resist the 300 HAM'r as I have the 300 Blackout already.
Not really...build a Grendel "battle" rifle (mine is an A-2 left handed clone) , and a Grendel long range rifle...
.223/5.56 from 16" barrel has no trouble hitting a full sized silhouette target at 500 yards with iron sights. But gotta love the 3x energy delivery a 123gr 6.5 Grendel bullet can land at that 500 yard distance!!!
agree
Not hard to find at all use the internet
So if i buy a 6.5 grendel upper i can slap it on my 5.56 lower? What else do i need to buy?
Yes. You need a different bolt head, I’d just buy a dedicated bolt carrier group. You will also need mags.
Cool. I’d be kinda curious to see if the 6ARC is even getting a complete powder burn out of a short barrel. My guess is, it’s not.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork most cartridges don't.
My 12" Grendel is Home defense, hunting and capable of going out to 800 yards. If hunting is more important than long range shooting, go Grendel. If long range is the priority over hunting, then 6mm arc might serve you better. They both can be effective, but are better at different jobs.
Nicely done realistic video thank you sir

IMO the 6.5 Grendel is the optimal round for CQB and LR shooting. I built a custom AR with 12.5 5R Faxon Match barrel and BCG, Billet 2A upper and lower, SA adj gas block, Aero precision full floating hand guard, VG6 Epsilon brake, Hiperfire Eclipse trigger, bipod, and Accufire Atro-20 2.5-20x56 FFP scope. Mini red dot for CQC. A 12.5" barrel is still lethal out to 800-1000yds.
Sounds pretty good to me. 👍

Thanks, I appreciate that.

Lloyd Castleton Thanks for watching. 👍
Here is a thought: Have a 5.56 10.5-12.5 inch pistol and keep an 18 inch Grendel for swapping out for long range shots. Nothing wrong with a long pistol barrel. Have this combo for the best of both worlds and various applications
I would love to see 224 valkyrie and 6.5 Grendel..I hope you can make it happen
Basically 224 flopped. It was launched in the wrong barell twists and was unable to stabilize the 90s. Basically companies rechambered 1:7 223 ar15 barells. It was good with the lighter stuff up to 77s but then it is pointless given a 223 could basically do the same thing. It's since had faster barrels but no one is really interested anymore given the overhyped launch that didn't live up to expectations. Dead caliber for the most part.
@@bmstylee correct
@@bmstylee it's not so much a twist rate issue as bad barrels/reamers apparently. Have not seen stabilization issues with the 7 twist ones, unless maybe with the very sleekest 90+grainers like JLK or berger that don't really offer you a whole lot over stuff like the much shorter 90gr SMK, 85.5 HybridTarget, etc
Great vid indeed. I own both calibers. Both are more than enough. All you would need this side of large game. thanks
You gotta hit the gym if 8 pounds is super heavy for you.
@@mattllaves I am most likely quite a bit stronger than you are buddy.

Tyler Musselman you’re welcome.
Thanks for your nice info-clip Joel, I have several AR-15's and will stick with them since I am not

Thank you 😊
5.56NATO for me...available ammo at low price. In my geographic are, shots are limited to 300 yards or less, with 100 yard shots most likely.
If I lived in a more open geographic area, I would most likely choose the 6.5.
Understood. All valid reasons. 👍
Correct
I dont see it as a "Pick one" option. Everyone in the US should own at least one 556 rifle for all the reasons you mentioned. 6.5G would be in addition to the 556.
New Mexico is good Grendel country.
How close would you have to be for a deer with 223?
I really think that comes down to personal preference. For me, I don't like to drop below about 600-700 ft-lb of energy for killing large game like that. With a standard 55gr .223, this means 250-300 yards max. Bullet design matter too. Something that really expands well is going to be better.
Which is better? They are 2 very different platforms. Both have their uses . AR15 is a combat rifle workhorse if you will. The 6.5 Grendel at 20” is more of a DMR style rig . I have both and use 1 for 0-300 the other I use for 300-1500ish .
Where can a guy find a dope card like that one? The Grendel is my favorite caliber.

Nightforce SHV 4.5-14x50 MOA
6.5 Grendel 🤔 is good but I like the bigger 6.5 creedmore 👍🏽 it took me years I figure out if I wanted the
AR-15 rifle or LR-6.5 for big open space
In N.M. so I went with LR-6.5 creedmore
I own one of each! Great guns.
No you don't
It’s a better round but what good is it when you can’t find ammo?
Lack of all ammo right now definitely sucks.
What are your thoughts on a 25 Grendel mate?
I like the sounds of that. Would it be in a gas gun like an AR 15?
Would the rounds feed well with the steeper angle of the shoulder on the brass?
I think the shoulder angle would be the same because you're only necking down 7 thou of an inch. I would have it in a bolt gun because here in Australia, gas guns are a hard no for recreational shooters.@@PrecisionRifleNetwork
Where do I find that dope diagram
Can you shoot 6.5 Grendel in 5.56 or would the upper need to be swapped out for a 6.5 upper?
Curious as to how this is even a question...Ballistically there’s no comparison
Old Gregg depends on your purpose I guess. 🤷🏻♂️
Excellent video.
Thank you.
With the introduction of the AR platform we wonder why we have ammo shortage ??
I know its not an aimpoint, but how do you like the crimson trace red dot, I wasthinking about getting the same one? Any and all details would be great.
