Personal property tax in NoVA is the highest in the nation! It’s insane. My 14 yo car is depreciating in value, yet my property tax on it keeps increasing every year. Mind boggling!
@jason..No it hasn't what DELUSIONAL World are you living in...mine went up 50 dollars...stop spreading Misinformation and disinformation..😡..JUST LIKE BIDENTARD..LIES LIES AND MORE INFLATION LIES..
Lived in Fairfax/Vienna. One thing people don't tell you is how rude and entitled the people are in NoVA. If you can not help their careers they want nothing to do with you. Plus you get a lot of "Do you know who I am?" Karen type of attitude. So glad I don't live there anymore.
Average my monthly expense went up 20% comparing to before pandemic and salary stays the same. Houses price , interest rate goes up so much that I feel like my money is only worth half now
Fairfax county, loudoun county, Arlington county, city of falls church and city of Alexandria all expensive. Someone has to pay for those bloated massive local governments.
Thanks for watching. I have 2 car notes totaling $1650/month. For this video I only included cost that are associated with living in the area that’s why I didn’t mention it.
The problem with Northern VA outside of the DC.. is that it's a one party area and the Democrats can get away with just about anything as their is no checks and balances !!! The local govt is bloated and the school systems waste too much money ...and when someone comes along and wants to reduce taxes - such as reducing the personal property taxes .. people in Northern VA didn't vote to let that happened !!! because so many people in this area are brainwashed and vote for the same type of people .. big spenders, high tax politicians. I moved out west to a red county and my taxes are a fraction of what Northern VA is. ... school are still good, roads are great - but its run by Repulicans , yet still have checks and balances on fiscal spending.
You should have moved to one of those Red state pinnacles of success like Alabama, or Mississippi, or Louisiana, or Arkansas, or West Virginia, or Missouri, or ... 🤣
@@kenbob1071 I moved to a RED area .. Western VA and love my standard of living.. my dollars go farther .. with very low property taxes , lower property values , so a brand new home for a fraction of DC area prices. If you don't have to live in around the DC area , believe me its so much better- higher quality life.
Good video. What I would like to see is a comparison of prices across the DMV. Take your condo and drop it in Frederick County MD. How much would you be paying there? What about your living expenses? What about in Montgomery MD? Or Fairfax County?
I moved to Ashburn in 2021. Rent was $1700 something. This year, I got a lease renewal form for $2400 something. That's a $700 increase in around 4 years. That's just base rent. In this area, you will not find a single apartment complex where the base rent is the final number so it's even more money, generally over $100 added on in hidden fees. I eat 1 full meal a day and work in the data centers here doing both hardware and system administration work. After all this time doing everything I can to save, all I have in savings is $2000 which doesn't even cover a single month's rent. I rarely take time off and live alone. I rarely go out too because anything outside of walking trails costs too much to continue saving whatever I can scrape after paying the cost of living here. The Internet's internal functions are my passion but is it worth getting legally robbed every month?
Keep it up Cody, you just can't be a datatech forever if you want to thrive here, or you need to get roommates maybe. There's a lot of competition for datacenter techs, work on some more specialize tech skills, go up the stack a bit, and you'll command a higher salary, and benefit moreso from the job market in this area.
South Virginia is like a whole different state, lol. Our taxes are quite reasonable here. Nothing like back in NJ. Apparently, north VA I similar to there tho, wild!
Why is my expense total amount the same and my children are adults and don't live with me..and I live in Stafford? And my groceries are less $500 month, and i eat out maybe maybe 1 x month, amd work from home...fulltime.
@@LivinginNorthernVirginia Too bad, but I love that cement gray color! Just so you're prepared for later, even when your kid grows up and doesn't have daycare, there will be other things like private lessons or school costs, sports, clothing, etc. When they're my kid's age, it's college costs. Haha 😆
You say over half a million for a condo isn’t bad is ironclad proof we are experiencing late stage capitalism. People about to learn some hard lessons about how a bell curve works.

Thanks for sharing. It's makes zero sense for an older car to have the taxes going up.
Mine is too, this is crazy..
It’s been reduced by 70%. So stop complaining.

I moved here from Texas and was so shocked and angry by that car tax bill. 😂
It's the worst. Thanks for watching.

Property tax in VA is outrageous. I pay almost 11k for my old small cape cod home in NOVA. I also pay about $600 per year for car tax.
Fairfax county, loudoun county, Arlington county, city of falls church and city of Alexandria all expensive. Someone has to pay for those bloated massive local governments.
I live here....save yourself the pain and don't do it 🤣
Born and raised in NoVa since 1973. The cost of living and traffic was oppressive. I moved to WV when I was 35 and don't regret it one bit.
Great breakdown of cost! This help us gauge of what to expect.
Thanks for watching!!!
Gotta say electric and water way off at least in woodbridge smaller house too about 1600 sq ft $100 for water and $200 for electric
Gas is so much worse for indoor air quality. People don’t realize how important ventilation is when you’re cooking. Especially with gas.
I have a gas stove, but bought an induction plate from IKEA and I use it most of the time. It's much quicker than gas.
Very good video! Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate you watching and commenting 👊
100% spot on, live in NOVA, also have a 1 year old and same interest rate. Monthly expenses come out between 8-10K.
that car insurance is unbelivable
Nah not really - but the drivers are tho
Car insurance? what are your deductions and coverage. i pay 150$ for 2023 BMW X6 Competition. And car tax is gross
lol car insurance is 120 per month for rav4 le 2023.
Wow David - Thanks for sharing, it was very helpful. ... You never said if you had a car note for the BMW X5.
Thanks for watching. I have 2 car notes totaling $1650/month. For this video I only included cost that are associated with living in the area that’s why I didn’t mention it.
I’ve lived in NOVA since 1975. Our total cost of living per month is about $3050. Our mortgage is $1295 😊. Buy low, sell high.

We used home daycare, cost about half what a brick and mortar daycare charges.
Good for you..
If you have a condo, and you pay the HOA to insure the condo, what is your personal property insurance actually covering?
You should have shown a picture of that $30 toll road.

So move? I just looked it up and found plenty of places at half that price.
@@Ryan-wx1bi Salary adjusts to the cost of living wherever you go in the US.

hi David, great video, you mentioned your condo fee is around $250 per month, would like to know which neighborhood it is? thank you!

You're going to love the property tax on that X5... I think I paid over $1000 for mine.
I’m definitely not looking forward to it

Car insurance is vastly different across places buddy😅
Technically Rhode island is #1 on the car tax but Virginia is #2
That's $8936 after income taxes.
You are having luxury lifestyle.

Nice X-5 David! Is the M version?
It’s not an M Version but it does have the M Sport Package.
