You guys did an excellent job breaking up expenses and explaining it all. Good job! Much appreciated. Very informative and comprehensive without being too long or too much. And funny…Jerry’s face is serious as he says “ she likes it cool, so we’ll allow it” meanwhile Linda smiling ear to ear….hahaha. Too funny. Well done you!

I can’t afford to live there and this was extremely helpful. It would have been disastrous if I had bought a house there and then tried to manage on my SS and retirement. Oh my, you just saved me lots of distress. Also, I know my personality well enough to know the rising amenity fee would upset me … and all the rules would irritate me in the end. Thank you so much for being good people and being transparent. I’m really glad you two are happy!

I'm 51 and still work full time. I live in Georgia in a 3000sqft cape cod. I'm amazed at the difference in expenses. I've been off work for a couple of weeks. My best friend messaged me and asked what I'm doing. I said loving life. He said he would love life too if he had more money. I was thinking what does that have to do with time off.
My expense are very low compared to this. I Paid off my mortgage in 2019. My taxes and home insurance is $310 a month. Water bill which includes trash pickup is $56. Electric bill was $87 last month. 2 phone lines are $112. No cable or internet. No amenity fees. I'm 150ft from a park. I can go for $20 a day. I choose not to. Free park is 2 minutes away. Food is $150 but that includes a lot of hygiene products and face mask etc. Car insurance is $107. My teenager crashed my car 3 years ago. That will eventually come down. My medical insurance is $40 a week. That's thru my employer and includes dental and life and disability. I'm 13 minutes from work so gas is cheap. I mow my lawn and clean. Me and my daughter cut each others hair. We wash our own cars.
My daughter works as a cook and brings home leftovers. Last night my dinner was BBQ pork plate with baked beans and baked potato. I'm feeding my 3 outside kitties the huge meatloaf she brought home the day before.
    I'm probably living on 1500 to 2000 a month.

I agree it's not because you live where it'll flood, but during a storm claim many people don't know it but your claim can and probably will not cover your damages because the insurance company will claim that damage occurred because of wind blown rain and pushed by winds. When she was working full-time and I was working from home, I did all the cooking. Even now 10 yrs after her passing, I cook all the time. Not just BBQ, which I can do with a plumb, but with full course meals. My back yard patio is a 'hood gathering place about once a month where my neighbors bring their delicacies and I provide a new recipe on roasted herb chicken or garlic infused pork tenderloin or even homemade potato chips. My freezer is always a go-to for an-alone left-over meal. I have b'fast out at a local french bistro once a week after my work-out at the Y or a burger and $2 beer at the local minor league ball game.

I pulled out my budget here in Georgia and was ticking off all your line items. Very thorough approach. You add in some of your Misc. noted at the end for gifts/vacations/donations and you're tacking on another $10k per year plus adding in for some earlier "conservative" numbers. Now you two are almost at the Financial Planner designation stage. Next step is where does the revenue come from (obviously an individual case by case)........so the only budget item left out is "Am I saving money each year or drawing from savings each year", which changes as inflation and age contribute to the calculations------------Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. JOB WELL DONE!!!!

Retirement living used to be less expensive than your typical expenses while raising your family. The Villages is a bit of a premium experience and with property values skyrocketing your expenses are similar to our middle class area in South Florida. However, your home insurance is about 1/3 what we're paying for a similarly priced home and your utilities are a little less. Great info, thanks.

Agreed! I live in Palm Beach County.. out west of West Palm Beach. I have 1.5 acres in Loxahatchee. House is ranch style (just 1500 sq ft air conditioned), I have a 3 stall (tongue & groove) barn with openings to paddocks. I have a 130x80 arena. We just shopped insurance, as it went up substantially this year. We have top end coverage (and costs have skyrocketed to replace this home (or barn!) and we currently pay $4300 a yr for insurance (including flood). We've been through a couple of 140mph hurricane winds and had minimal damage, .. mostly fallen branches from palm trees.
I guess moving to the Villages and having those costs, would be like me having 3 horses in my barn here! LOL!! Don't even have me tell you their yearly expenses.. cause if hubby saw it, he'd have a heart attack! LOL!
I make just enough through training, sales, & professional photography to cover the costs of the horses.. but never a big profit (unless through sales of a horse I trained!)
The horses to me are a passion that I love. If you labor daily doing something you love, .. it's never work, is it? 😁

The cost of living is truly getting out of hand particularly in Miami/Dade County where the average/minimum salary is relatively low compared to the high cost of living. Many native Floridians are living in poverty nor can afford a descent retirement life. Very sad!

@@djbvida .. I have a 2005 Chevy Avalanche that I love! 135,000 miles on it (averaging 8000 miles a year) and its barely ever needed anything more than tires, oil changes, a battery or two 😅.. a carburetor and lastly, a water pump. But! It's paid off! It's a special tow package (pulls my horse trailer!), and has lots of bells and whistles with leather interior, awesome (heated) seats with lumbar support etc..
I was thinking of selling it and getting a Kia Sorrento! I'm still weighing all the options of doing that. I had some health issues that put me in a wheelchair, then a walker, and now I use a cane. Even with my extra "step up" for getting in my Avalanche, it's still a bit difficult. I am debating if I should keep it (as I'm getting stronger weekly!), or to get me a vehicle a bit more low to the ground! 😁 At 68 yrs young 🤪 .. I'm seriously contemplating the latter! Especially since I only use my horse trailer 4-6 times a year to haul to horse shows (and I could hire that done cheaper than the horse trailer upkeep!)
It would be kinda neat to have a backup camera.. LOL! But, in my heavy Chevy, I sure feel much safer in it if I was in an accident!

I stumble into this video since I saw a video about the Villages on another channel and they showed all the Disney land amenities that you guys have there. Thank you for this video. This pretty much summarizes my regular monthly expenses. In reality like someone else said in this channel. This retirement life at the Villages would complicate my expenses. There fee's that you guys pay that I don't currently. There is no way I see myself retiring there. You guys did great JOB !! explaining everything to the detail. It looks like you would need a good 4K to 4.5 K to live comfortably there.

We moved to St. Catherine in Sept. For those of you moving to the new areas South of 44 prices are a little higher. Our Amenity fee is $175.00 and our bond is much higher just for a frame of reference. Thanks again or another great video, it’s really a great help to those at home who want to live the dream😎🛺🌴

I can't possibly thank you, enough, for all your hard work in compiling this data for us. What a huge blessing. Will you be so kind as to share who you get your home, auto and golf cart insurance through? We just switched from Geico to a local agent and we thought we were happy, until we saw your prices. Holy moly! We are definitely over-paying. Our home is frame, not stucco, and our rate is 50% more than yours. Same for car and golf cart. Again, thank you, both, for all that you do to give us insight to this amazing community we call home. :-)

Ocala resident here, not far from the Villages. We’ve used Clifford Insurance (agents) to insure our house, vehicles, boat, umbrella policy. Prices continue to go up each year, especially homeowners. We ask the agents to shop our policies when we get our renewal notices. It is not often that we switch insurers, as they remain competitive. Clifford Insurance is family owned, great people, located in Belleview, between the Villages and Ocala.

I am in my early 50’s and found this so very helpful! I am great shape based on what you described for now…but this also reminds me to keep working as a teacher because we do have great retirement benefits in my state that are very valuable. It has been sooo tempting to want to retire early. Working in a public school with germy kiddos and things changing all the time has made even the best of us want to leave, even though I truly adore my students in elementary. So thank you for a dose of reality. Going to make sure my husband of 30 years keeps it up too. lol

    Jerry and Linda,
You really delved into expenses. I am sure that it will help someone. 😀 Thank you for you generosity of sharing!
Speaking about housing costs. My mother (at 82 🔥) is building a new one story home.
She contracted back in September 2020 in Prosper, Texas a far northern suburb of Dallas. Because of materials shortages, weather etc..her home won’t be ready until March 2022. During this time the base price of the home jumped $334K. It is just under $1 million to begin with before adding ANY upgrades. They also give 1st priority to people who are CASH buyers.
I say all this because we have NEVER seen this kind of market in Texas. It’s not sustainable. Thankfully my mother is over 65 and her taxes are lower. We have no state income tax, we do have high property taxes.
Florida, I can only imagine. I am glad that you moved there before it really went up.

My parents are in their ‘70s and just moved into a new home they built. It took over two years. My mom is experienced in construction, an interior designer by trade, although she hasn’t worked since they built their last house in 2007. They have had so many problems in the new house due to negligent work, she said she would not advise anyone to build or remodel now. If she’d known what this was going to be like, they would have stayed put.

Another great video and very timely for us who hope to relocate from R.I. to TV as permanent residents by summer. Not a huge difference comparing our R.I. costs to TV which in some instances is like comparing apples to oranges. We pay higher home owners insurance because we live in a hurricane zone, and you pay higher for pest control because we don't have the abundance of critters you have. So it is pretty much a wash for us since we will basically pay the same retiring in place as we would be relocating to TV. Our main incentive to relocate to TV is to escape the cold and snowy winters of R.I. along with having the most opportunities to be active and socially engaged year round. And TV clicked more of those boxes for us than other communities we researched.
