Having an automation clip/ track that moves across multiple clips is super powerful - first , to avoid repetitive automation and second, its especially great for ambient drones and pads (created from shorter clips with reverb and sustain) to create subtle changes and movement across the entire song. Another good TIP: When in a clip view using hardware, you can switch beteeen events and keyboard mode without loosing the view you're in by pressing shift/keyboard or shift/events etc.
You really just made me fall back in love with my MK3. I was getting so frustrated with arranging in Maschine and ended up getting Ableton but couldn't let go of the hands on work flow Maschine has. I also really like native instruments sounds and have Komplete 13 so i really want to get the most out of these sounds and browsing through them on Ableton is just not it compared to the mk3. What blew my mind here was using clips for automation! YESSSS!!!!!!! Thank you. Subscribed!
Hey Corey, this is awesome! I'm glad I could help re-ignite your interest in Maschine. I think once a person gets over the initial learning curve, it's very fun to create with. Thanks for subscribing! And yes, the clips for automation tip might be my favorite one
@@FlatWHDF it was Wild for me to trust me! I was having a hard time with both Maschine and Ableton. But once i learned how to arrange in Maschine, Ableton made more sense in theory. After trying to use both for a while It All kinda just clicked.

Appreciate your content, it feels like I'm always learning something new and some cool hacks which either save time or let me discover cool features in maschine. Keep going!
Great video and overview! I will definitely get into clips a LOT more because of this. One thing about the choke groups: for the 808, I've always found it easier to set it to ADSR mode and drag the notes out. This provides extra control over the release, ensuring there are no clicks when the sound is cut off.
Thank you! Excellent presentation, particularly keeping the hardware in view. I took on way too much by getting Maschine Mk3 and then getting super excited about Ableton. The learning curve was already too great for my old brain and then I decided to buy the Maschine Plus with only a scant knowledge of either system and very little experience. As a result I have only ever scratched the surface of what either can do. Clips looked like a whole new world and very complex so I left it alone. Now I am more confident with the hardware, I am ready to tackle clips and you make it sound essential.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, the learning curve is steep, but once you move past the learning curve, you'll have a lot of fun creating with Maschine. Clips are definitely essential once you start trying to create full-length tracks!
@@MusicMemor Again, i want to say a huge thank you bro.. because this video is like a bible how to manual for me. Trust me i've looked, and i haven't found anybody else on TH-cam who explains in detail how to use and manipulate Clips the way you do here. I'm doing Vocals, the way that i would usually do them (recording them out as a sample with the beat playing) and i have issues in Song mode with the vocals replaying from one scene to the other.. & i was going to go back and chop them up, and place them on pads and play them where i wanted them.. (blah, blah.. long science projects) then i remembered clips can do this .. but HOW.. i have your video saved.. So i just rewatched it.. and everything i needed to know is here.. Even manipulating automations in Clips (and duplicating them) to place them anywhere (instead of sitting here and doing it over and over each time)... Thanks a ton.. You've blessed my workflow.. Great video! You deserve a sub for this. I mainly use clips to arrange my beats or make edits within them but now you've shown me more ways on how I can use them. Thanks. Looking forward to more vids like this.

Great videos @Music Memor - subscribed and looking forwards to future content - never really gotten to grip with clips mode but gonna go and give these 16 tips a try right now. As frustrating as it has been at times to be a Maschine user all these years I sincerely believe it is inches away from greatness. Hoping the promised software update sometime in 2024 finally gives me the ability to record and capture jammed pattern, mute and lock mode swapping easily within Maschine. On a separate note - you seem like a dude who might know - is there a way to record the automation from the ribbon controller when you have it set to 'Mod' mode? Been making a track today and in one sound slot I have Playbox providing the lead sound - the Mod wheel is opens and closes the filter. I put Maschine in AUTO mode and tried to capture the information from the ribbon controller in the same way as if I was recording automation on the 8 rotary encoders and nothing happens!
Thanks for the feedback! And I agree with you. Maschine is so close to being so good. I'm excited for that software update too! Hopefully a new Maschine model as well. As for the automation recording, I tried this with playbox. I had the auto button pinned so it was lit up. Also, I had record activated so the recording button was lit up. Then, I was able to record the automation with the touch strip in mod mode. Hopefully this works for you
@@bastarddonthemove - wow 🤩- let me see if I can get this to work when I get home today - are you ok if I fire you some questions on how to set it up if I struggle or…. @MusicMemor could you add it to the list for a vid?

great tutorial thank you! What kind of approach you suggest when I have full song acapella and I build song around it. I have also Ableton but do you recommend create only clips? Or what is the best way to do this. Cuz if I out first acapella and then make scenes acapella cuts always. I can make blank scenes first and arrangement and then put acapella. Suggest your best way on this case. Thank you!
Usually, I would try to add some scenes and then add the acapella with a clip. It's okay that when you add more scenes, the acapella clip cuts. You can drag the ends of the acapella clip and that will solve the issue
Is clips something that is relatively new for maschine? I'm asking because in 2020 i bought a Maschine mk3 and was able to understand the general work flow of it and really enjoyed except for one MAJOR thing that i couldn't wrap my head around. That was to have the ability to freely move around a "clip" linearly all through out the track. When i had it you were not able to do this and the work around for it was to create another "scene" at the exact time in the track that you wanted it and it was just a very sloppy and frustrating way to do it. So much so, that i returned my mk3 to guitar center just 3 weeks later, before the 30 day return period ended. I was really disappointed because i really REALLY wanted to keep it because besides that i was loving it. Obviously from your video it looks like that is "fixed" and i am feeling very excited to get a mk3 again because even after being with Ableton for a little while i still think maschine does it in a way that just makes so much sense and feels extremely intuitive with the mk3 and maschine working together
Yeah, I believe clips are relatively new (a couple of years maybe). I couldn't imagine using maschine without clips. I don't blame you for returning it. They add so much to the workflow and flexibility. I'm hyped for you to get your Maschine MK3 again and have clips available to you this time. It sounds like Native Instruments will be updating their software sometime soon, so hopefully that comes with substantial improvements
Hi Roman - When you are in the piano roll view, you can increase the pattern length by typing in a number in the middle area of the right side of the screen. It's a section that says "Length: 4:0:0" for a pattern that is 4 bars or "Length: 2:0:0" if your pattern is currently 2 bars. Sorry, this is hard to explain through text, but I hope you are able to figure it out
I'm not sure how to do it on the hardware either. I tried several things right now. I'm not sure if it's possible tbh. I haven't seen it done through any videos I learned from. I only know how to do it in the software
@@MusicMemor ok, so i don't know if it's possible....but, for those wondering, I found one way...bit of a hack: copy the events in the pattern...and literally paste them into the target empty clip! Also, related, when using samples, like recording voice or guitars etc, to get the sample into the clip on the hardware...covert the sample to an audio module, make sure the sound is selected and then make a clip in the song mode and when you increase it's size...boom...the sample is just in the clip!
