It was very important to us that we were creating a machine for living that was going to be functional and comfortable. As noted in the video, we went through so many iterations to flush out the elements that didn't feel well resolved. We have been full-time for 9 months and truly love our home. Not because it looks sexy in an instagram shot (there are sexier), but because it is truly functional and a comfortable place to call home. I have now watched hundreds of van tours and I have to say, the design of your van puts it at the top of the list. I could honestly live in that very comfortably.

Love your setup. Love that the shower is open, with the curtain to enclose, it can dry properly. First time to see bedroom in the front! Nice door separating the cockpit and home.
I love the Murphy Bed and the way you put your fridge up high! It would be so much easier to get to everything. Having the composting toilet in the back would make it easier to pull out for cleaning and you can use the shower outdoors too! Very well thought out plan!!

love the layout, im just starting to plan a 144 (MWB) sprinter build and i had come up with the same type of layout, but had been searching to see if anyone else had done this already (so glad i found yours) I will only be traveling with my Husky and not full time living (for now) so the murpy bed design gives that multi functional space so i can work and rest while keeping space for the dog. I think the rear shower gives you the choice of a larger garage and the feeling of space when you want to open it up. Thanks for sharing

Great van, and beautifully produced video. So good to see the concept of double utilisation of space being applied, e.g. re the bed (where so many vans lock up the space which is essentially used while unconscious). Having the shower space open unless in use, and at the back for ventilation, is brilliant.

AWESOME! THAT SINK! I have been LOOKING for an example to use while I plan my build! I have LITERALLY been searching for a faucet that goes down like that because I feel it is SUCH a waste of space to have the faucet out all the time! YES! This was recommended to me by TH-cam! TH-cam found YOU for ME! YES! You have NO IDEA! I feel like crying because I've been searching so hard for THAT particular type of sink and NO ONE has it! How amazing is this van\home?! Who would have thought the bed would be where it is? Fantastic job you guys absolutely fantastic. Everything you could possibly need to live, work, travel and enjoy in such an incredible space! WOW! WOW! WOW! You have a mobile apartment only thing missing is a washing machine but I am guessing coming from NYC and an apartment a washing machine is something your used to not have having anyway so it's no loss for you? Again guys fantastic job and absolutely lovely. All this in a ford transit van 🤔🙄🤔🙄.Even a shower\toilet in this van. You guys have EVERYTHING you need from a home!!!! Also the freedom to travel. You can just move around freely and go wherever and whenever you want without the expense of removel guys! I just can't get over how much you have and more importantly how you got all that into a ford transit van!!!!!! You have thought about everything from power (the solar bank and batteries), the reception for your phones (the cell booster) and a WiFi booster the roof holds slot of your needs for traveling who would have thought just by looking at your van that you have an amazing space inside and what a technical space you have got on the outside!!!! More than 90 percent of our time is spent sitting in the living room, which is the widest part of the van. We almost always have the slider open as well, which greatly enhances the scale of the space. After 9 months full-time, we're still very happy with it!
Hey Garrett, I loved the originality of this floor plan but I agree with you that it definitely has a tight “feel”. I think it’s because the windows in the rear are covered by the wall for the bathroom/garage and that creates that feeling of tightness. It’s likely since there’s only one other window, aside from the rear ones, so that’s what gives it that closed in feel instead of the light and airy feel when there’s lots of natural light and the feeling of space that being to see directly outside gives. That being said, not everyone has being able to see outside or having natural light as a priority AND the most important thing of any build is that the space is really enjoyable to those living in it and this one does that in spades!! I REALLY loved the Murphy bed and the way it was built and positioned. I think they did a really great job because if they hadn’t they wouldn’t enjoy it so much, which they obviously do and that’s the whole point!!! Congrats on a great build guys. Looking forward to seeing where you travel. Stay safe and be happy !!

Wow! One of the best and most creative floor plans in a van I have ever seen. The Murphy bed is the best one I have seen too. Plus your food looked so delicious! I do not have a camper of any type yet, but I am considering my options.
Really interesting and unique layout, clearly tailored to your specific needs. I'm going to mine it for ideas. *A question*: What are the height and depth dimensions of your upper cabinets as well as your awesome hanging wardrobe?
Thanks for watching! The height of the upper cabinets is 20" and 54" for the wardrobe. The depth of the upper cabinets is 20" and the wardrobe is 20" at the top and 24" at the bottom. Since the van doesn't have plumb (vertical) walls, we devised a jig that allows us to get an extra 4" or width in the van under the upper cabinet height. You can see how this is done in our build photos here: www.dwnshifters.com/van-build The reason for the existing depth of everything is based on the size of our fridge. We'll fenagle something next time to make the depth 2" smaller to make our galley a smidge wider. It's currently 24.5" wide and is totally functional is as, but we find we don't need as much space as we have in the upper cabs and wardrobe, so we'd shrink their depth by 2" next time to make it a bit roomier for two people working in the kitchen. Hope this helps!
We didn't use a regular murphy bed because we would have lost all the overhead storage above the bed. We love the storage and bed as they are. Love the brainstorming though!

The Murphy bed is a must. Great video and storage ideas. I would want an ergonomically correct and comfortable back cushions for this 69 yr. old.

Hi Theresa! We carry 44 gallons of water . This video was really intended as a "home tour" and not a deep dive into the inner workings of the van. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, Garrett! It feels tighter in the video than it does in real life. More than 90 percent of our time is spent sitting in the living room, which is the widest part of the van. We almost always have the slider open as well, which greatly enhances the scale of the space. After 9 months full-time, we're still very happy with it!
Hey Garrett, I loved the originality of this floor plan but I agree with you that it definitely has a tight “feel”. I think it’s because the windows in the rear are covered by the wall for the bathroom/garage and that creates that feeling of tightness.
It’s likely since there’s only one other window, aside from the rear ones, so that’s what gives it that closed in feel instead of the light and airy feel when there’s lots of natural light and the feeling of space that being to see directly outside gives.
That being said, not everyone has being able to see outside or having natural light as a priority AND the most important thing of any build is that the space is really enjoyable to those living in it and this one does that in spades!!
I REALLY loved the Murphy bed and the way it was built and positioned. I think they did a really great job because if they hadn’t they wouldn’t enjoy it so much, which they obviously do and that’s the whole point!!!

Really interesting and unique layout, clearly tailored to your specific needs. I'm going to mine it for ideas. *A question*: What are the height and depth dimensions of your upper cabinets as well as your awesome hanging wardrobe?
Thanks for watching! The height of the upper cabinets is 20" and 54" for the wardrobe. The depth of the upper cabinets is 20" and the wardrobe is 20" at the top and 24" at the bottom. Since the van doesn't have plumb (vertical) walls, we devised a jig that allows us to get an extra 4" or width in the van under the upper cabinet height. You can see how this is done in our build photos here: www.dwnshifters.com/van-build The reason for the existing depth of everything is based on the size of our fridge. We'll fenagle something next time to make the depth 2" smaller to make our galley a smidge wider. It's currently 24.5" wide and is totally functional is as, but we find we don't need as much space as we have in the upper cabs and wardrobe, so we'd shrink their depth by 2" next time to make it a bit roomier for two people working in the kitchen. Hope this helps!

Actually, if u use a regular Murphy, it would come right over a fold out couch. I love your backsplash!!
We didn't use a regular murphy bed because we would have lost all the overhead storage above the bed. We love the storage and bed as they are. Love the brainstorming though!
