In this episode I walk around my most recent purchase, a 1992 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3 SPI, A barn find that has 1 owner 25k miles and services history to prove. The car has lived at the same address for 28 years!.

Its what mine used to look like 20 years ago, but its been abandoned im my parents garage for years, keep thinking about selling it and had a few offers. recently for it. I did most of it, new front end, reskinned doors, rea valance, bootlid, polybushed, rear subframe, hilos etc etc, real lifes got in the way getting married etc.

Mate, that's an epic find! 3 years ago I bought mine 1992 Rover mini Spi with canvas sunroof as my first car! Looked at two others before but one had too much rust and the other one was completely dismantled and I didn't know much about mini's at the time so passed it because it seemed like too much to take on. I love my 92' mini that almost MoT ready after 3 years of slowly restoring it in the holidays with my dad (car has been of the road since 2013). But man, bought it for cheap because of the serous rust on the floor and sills and it's was a complete mess. Wires have been cut, weird silicon have been used that was still sticky, door sills where made of filler, interior needed new upholstery. An untouched mini like this is almost impossible to find. Hopefully you will find an enthusiast that going to restore it to its former glory. Unfortunately my dad suffered this summer from a stroke which resulted in serious brain swelling. He is recovering and he is doing fine but not able to work on cars anymore. I have to finish this car on my own now and hopefully I can take him for a right with me this summer. Your videos really help us with the fiddly stuff we couldn't't figure out! Thank you for your videos Tom they help us a lot :)

What a great find. The SPi was introduced around that time so could be an early one perhaps, and it looks very original The aerial is defo not electric. They were always a ‘pull up’

If I were in your shoes though, i'd probably look to sell it what with the Red Mini and the Clubman project already being in the TCR Garage. Whatever happens, you've helped keep another classic mini on the road which is a win 😁😁

She deserves to be rescued...I’m doing the same with an mpi left 4 years to ants and mice...Mini are forever jewels, they need restoration and then they recomoemsate you with smiles and fun driving

I worked at Longbridge MG Rover for a good many years and can say the the aerial is correct. They changed it in 1997 I think on the last body change with flared arches, multi point fuel injection and then put the aerial on the roof.

Would love to own and ride such a fun mini. A REAL one, instead of the new so "called" Mini's. My mum bought a 1000 in '76. Antique Gold... I always thought musterd or rust would describe the color better! ;) Think my dad rode it to the yunkyard in '83 or so as there was too many rust instead of metal and paint. Later on my sis owned one which I lend once. Loved it!

Hi there just came across your channel and saw this. From Manchester myself (Fallowfield) but been living in Sydney for last 20 years. Would be mighty interested in buying this and shipping to Sydney but Australian customs has made it very hard to import cars with any asbestos in them of late, requiring all asbestos to be removed (brakes and clutch) and an official asbestos inspection done!! ah well all the best with the sale.

I have a 1992 Rover Cooper SPi which belonged to my Mum. Like the example you have it was in original condition when Mum gave it up - except for the rust. Last year I treated it to a new Heritage shell as the rot was so extensive - in all the usual places. Your shell looks much better in the video so it might be economic to save. Aerial should be manual.

I am jealous as all hell. The mk5 ( last of the pre BMW ones), is probably the best of the originals. 50mpg, goes like stink ( if you give the distributer a 1/4" turn, to tune it up.
Btw, if the body is crap, heritage cars in wales saved the presses and you can get a brand new complete body affordably!
If you are 6ft or taller, get out your 10mm spanner, and move the seat tipping hinge to the 3rd of the 3 bolt holes, as it was designed to be done that way to cope with tall drivers. They are nearly allways bolted in the middle hole for average sized drivers.
I would send it to heritage motors to fix the problems with the bodywork, as they will fix it all in 1 go, and be a great investment for what you would get in resale

It's like looking at my car. Much prefer this to the copper sport with the arches. This is more true to the original cooper, and they are a more subtle sleeper. Poppy is now a 1380 with specialist components throttle bodies and an sw5. Lots of cars get surprised when I disappear. Shame you had to get rid, as this is the best looking of that era. Red is the colour.

If it’s that good it wouldn’t take to long to restore. I restored and re-sprayed my first classic 1989 mini in 10 months. and with yours be a low milage Cooper it’s very good Cash generator if you decide to sell

In 1997 they changed it from SPI to MPI and made the chassis a bit longer To compensate for the front mounted radiator. spi I think from 1992 to 1996 but spi in 92 was the change over period From carburettor to injection

Don't sell it, it's a classic it's beautiful and all original. Brings back memories of my Australian made Leyland Mini S 77 model made in Sydney factory , in the 83 -85 clubman with sports wheels but I only had the 998cc until I rolled it off the main road falling asleep late but I was told it saved my life a brick on wheels. My Parr , st Helen's born lancashire ,English emigrant father was so upset with me then, as young Lad 19yr old driver as mine was a lovely Mini no rust , my father now passed away recently at 93 loved my Mini I had.
It's a lovely classic Mini in quite good orginal Cooper model condition.
