I’m so glad you got him and he didn’t go to a bad family. He needed a good family with children. He is a sweetheart. A good Pyrenees can cost $1500-2500 on average

We recently got an 8-year old Pyr named Daisy from a woman who could no longer take care of her. She is the sweetest, gentlest dog. And she is incredibly smart. Her prior owner told us Daisy did not like being inside, but we had to bring her inside for a few days due to the recent cold snap and now she LOVES coming inside to sleep on the rug in front of the fireplace. She is such a character! Love this breed.

I have a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian shepherd and she is so wonderful with kids. I’ve had her since she was 15 weeks old. We farm cattle, and hogs, and about 3000 acres of row crops (corn, soy beans, wheat, rye). This last year we planted sunflowers 500acres

Thank you for this video! I have a 13 week old Anatolian/Pyrenees mix and I have been going nuts with his training! I have felt like tearing my hair out! It’s so good to hear that I am not just doing a bad job of training, but that he is a whole different kind of animal.

We have a 1 yr old Great Pyrenees and she is so good with our little kids. She’s an indoor dog and definitely enjoys that but also loves her job of protecting the chickens.

Pyrenees/Anatolian mix or purebreed of either are hands down some of the best dogs that you can have! I personally will never get another breed again due to having these dogs and knowing how they are. You made a great choice and it would be awesome to get a puppy!

We have a male great pyreneese and we are adopting a rescue Great Pyrenees female. The one that we already have notices anything that is out of places or changed. He patrols the property and doing perimeter check. We live in Idaho coyote country and he keeps them away. He likes Pears, apples, plums, peaches, carrots, broccoli, lettuce, cheese, scrambled eggs. We fell in love with the breed.

I know this video is 2 years old, but Your dog looks EXACTLY like my great pyrenees female, she's 1.5 years old. Other than him looking a little bit bigger, they look almost identical! Even their mannerisms. I wonder if they're related somehow?

My Great Pur/ Anatolian mix when young would sleep outside at-5 F on the concrete slab at the end of our driveway. He ad a 2 part doghouse I made from an old Boy Scout design but he never used it until he was 6 to seven years old. Protects all the living creatures on our farm and that includes Sky Patrol! ( Hawks, Geese, Vultures, Eagles, Herons…)

Thor is absolutely beautiful and precious ! He seems like the perfect fit . We have a rescued basenji and when our son was younger we had to remind him not to put his face near Gus because Gus got very anxious . Since finding out more about his past we have been able to train and help him feel more secure . Thor will continue to be amazing and he’s so gorgeous

We really want (and need!) a LGD. We lost 5 of our laying hens last week to a trio of mink living in the creek along our property. 😞
The mink are no longer, but a new one could always move in, plus we’ve got hawks, coyotes, raccoons, and possums.
Two issues that we need to work around.
1)We have no fencing on the property except an underground electric fence the previous owners installed.
    2) We are expecting a new baby in June. Not sure I should try to find a new puppy before the baby comes…

Love this Q&A. I am starting up some farm vlogs for our rare and heritage stock, too.
I have heard over and over that Pyrs and Anatolians are bad about testing fence and wandering instead of staying with their charges. We found a breed that is supposed to wander less, and have a couple puppies on the way. Fingers crossed!

What breed is that? I'm looking for a good lgd that doesn't tend to test fencing as much, is family friendly and less likely to bark at every little thing. Is there such a thing? 🤣

@@wishiwuzahomestead6338 Armenian Gampr. The pups we got have been lovely so far! Naturals with the poultry. Experiencing their first lambing season now. No issues! They are still the wary sort and will bark first if they see or hear something but they don't seem to bark for no reason. We are working on teaching them that javelina are welcome visitors and don't require the usual alarm! lol

We have 3 LGD and they are the sweetest (the two boys are the more than our female!) Ours HATED having to come inside our shed when it was below 0° and freezing rain in Texas.

We have two great Pyrenees. One is a border collie mix, and he was given to us. He was living in an apartment, and when the household was away every day at work and school, they put this dog in the cage, and the cage was dented from the inside out, and he wasn’t even able to turn around in it! It’s a miracle he wasn’t totally ruined! He had some severe issues initially, but we worked those out. The only thing he has left is anxiety upon separation. But this dog is absolutely brilliant! We’ve watched him herd and round up animals. And it is amazing. We have a two-year-old that we bought as a puppy for $100. I’ve never paid for a dog before in my life but I wanted a full-blooded Pyrenees and they are not expensive in this area of Kentucky. The border collie Pyrenees lived in North Dakota and loves the outdoors even in the bitter cold winters. It gets down to -65° in North Dakota all often on throughout the winter. When my husband got the tractor out to plow snow, he would lay outside in the snowbank or walk around and do whatever he wanted the entire time. My husband was out there he wouldn’t come in the house. And it was 25 and 30 below zero on days like that. They are designed to be able to endure bitter cold like that having migrated from the Pyrenees mountains of France, where they protected the sheep from wolves. They also are able to cool them selves off with the double coat that they have.
Mini mistake their independence for untrained or ill behavior. That isn’t the case that’s part of their breed to be able to manage heard without a human is in their jeans. Those are some of the things that I kept in mind while training our great Pyrenees. We live on 48 acres and we don’t have any fences anywhere. We also live close to the highway and they have never been off the property onto that highway. We initially trained with the colors that vibrate and freighted and the dog and they work great. We have also found them to be very protective of their people. If we are in our truck and someone comes up and speaks to us, the dogs are fine. If someone comes up to the truck to pet the dogs or just touches the truck when they might be doing something like crossing the streets, the dogs come on Dunn and really scare the people! I absolutely love these dogs they are super amazing! Don’t get a great Pyrenees unless you have property to let them run and time to train them!

What do you feed him? How much does it cost? I really want to add one but my husband is concerned about the cost. (Loosing a chicken every day is getting expensive)

    • @regenranch
      @regenranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

He eats regular dog food so that depends on the quality of dog food you buy. The size of the dog you get also decides that as well! Same as buying food for a pet dog 🙂 unless you meant the cost to actually obtain the dog! That can vary too. He was actually free, but it’s not normal. Puppies can be $400+ to come from good working lines.
