- In the antique restoration video, I am restoring an 1890's Chatillion and Son's candy scale. I came across this at a yard sale. The owner said they had it sitting outside for 20 years or more. One of my favorite things about tool restorations, not just this one, but any tool for that matter is the name and brand stamped in the metal. People really took pride in the tools made back in the day.
I like it that you don't rush through showing the various parts to let us have a good look.
I took my skill drill machine to the mechnc to get its grip tightened. The mechanic said change the grip! Disappointed!
These kind of restoring craftsmen are a rare breed these days. Bravo👍

Does it devalue the item to remove the casting marks? Personally I like that they're removed but just wondering.

Awesome job , no paint on the pivots or pivot blocks , just the way its supposed to be,.you even compensated for the body filler. This is the best restoration / calibration performed I've seen done to a set of "Over and Under scales" 1000👍's up

my step dad who's a 20 year firefighter vet was telling me back in the day, like 70's and 80's he drove around with a scale like this in his truck to weigh out weed he was selling

Looks good. Only thing I would have done is spray inside the base to protect it.

I like and love so much all people which likes to try restoring everything for giving another life to them. So I just told myself into all this time: if all these restoring objects are thrown away before to be recovered, then restored and reused, its possible that they works again and are thrown away for recovering space at home...? Otherwise how it explain all the work video scenes, then the results?
You did a good job on those hollow end pins. Not easy to do on the drill press. And I liked how you set them with the automatic punch. it was the way to go since it would be so easy to break the casting; I was worried @ 1:45 :)
