My first rock bands where queen, van halen, scorpions, etc. After a while I started to want something heavier, so I discovered Maiden, Priest and Sabbath. Then I wanted faster and more agressive music so I discovered the big four of thrash, motorhead and Opeth. During most of these musical experiences I had already known about bands like Cannibal Corpse, Death, Suffocation, Aborted, and a few others, but I just didn't appreciate them yet. After a while I decided slayer and megadeth weren't intense enough for me anymore, that's when I got into the Albums "Leprosy" by Death and (at the time their latest release) "Torture" by Cannibal Corpse". My appreciation for extreme music has grown more since then, and is still growing. I now listen to most death metal and black metal projects as well as "War Metal", and yet I still love and appreciate all the bands that got me started in Music's most aggressive genre.
@@pluviophile1988 yea i agree. I prefer heavy, riff, and amazing vocals that groove, thrash, even bands like soundgarden, and alice. I love metal but when it gets too extreme, at some point it just doesn’t sound like music. I want musicality and beautiful melodies with other dynamics. With meaningful lyrics or thought provoking lyrics. Not everyone just keeps searching for the extreme. All love tho
For me, im a power metal guy, so I like understanding what the singers are talking about, along with all those heavy, speedy and epic guitar and drum sounds. So, the vocals are on par with the music. It’s everything turned to 11.
I can definitely agree on a lot of these especially when you say it is better off starting a little bit softer in order to make your way up and see the true nature of death metal
Death Metal is about playing your instrument the craziest way possible and not giving a shit about how nice it sounds, the vocals just comlpiment the instrumentation for the most part. But there are so many different types and genres of death metal (Deathgrind, Tech Death, Brutal Death, Slam Death, Deathcore, Melo Death, Blackened Death, Prog Death etc) wich have their own characteristicks. Art is a reflection society. unlike many other music genres, Death Metal portrats how harsh society and the world really is. It's not negative music, it's realistic.
I’m not a death metal fan, and am just introducing myself to it now to give it a shot. I’m so impressed by the guitar riffs and drumming, but having a hard time with the singing. I would rather listen to death metal all day than any of the pop songs you put on the video. Lol.
Bro if you’re having a hard time with the vocals go listen to Classic Metal or Thrash Metal like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Pantera. They’re amazing.
try Exodus (thrash metal) first, then Vader (Death metal), then the newer Cannibal Corpse albums and then may be Cattle Decapitation. It's a great transition from harsh vocals to brutal vocals. For growls, my personal favourite is Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. Give Opeth a try, especially their albums Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, Morningrise and My Arms Your Hearse.
Doesn’t really explain why though? It’s not really about what they’re ‘singing’ about, it’s the fact that it is absolutely impossible to understand what they’re saying? I love pretty much all music but can’t get in to this at all? My son can’t explain it to me at all and can’t explain why he loves it so I came to TH-cam for answers but it’s not looking like I will get them? I just don’t get how people can claim to love something but can’t explain why?
Death and black metal and the like is taking metal music too far to a point where the music is unlistenable and the vocals sound like shit. It’s like taking thrash metal, specifically Slayer, but unnecessarily overdoing it. The point of music is to have melody and harmony in the vocals and music so it’s listenable, no matter the genre.
I bravely consider myself a metalhead, since metal is my favorite genre, and I like even pretty heavy stuff like Strapping Young Lad, Ministry since 2004, Fear Factory and Sodom, but as long as the vocals are death metal growls, it's off to me. I can't even listening to bands like Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom or Arch Enemy because of the vocals, I simply can't focuse on how good their music can be while there are vocals like that. That's my opinion.
I agree man. I love metal but when vocals and especially lyrics get too extreme almost comical, it’s a turn off. Furthest i go in terms of aggressive or heavy metal for me is like Pantera, i can’t go more extreme. I love Pantera tho cause they include a lot musicality and amazing dynamics.

Easy I relate to metal not everything is sunshine and rainbows, metal speaks about our anger and sadness pop talks about a world full of happiness which doesn't exist
Well that’s why i like bands like Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Testament, Alice in Chains, Motorhead, Black Sabbath. Death metal is definitely just more of an acquired taste.
It's satanic for nothing more than fictional creation. How many bands do you honestly think and go out and do the stuff in the songs? honestly. So bc it's got heavy lyrical content and fantasized cover art their satanic? By that logic isn't 90% of pop musicians gay since they wearing skirts and acting like girls. You got rappers wearing dresses in public and kissing other men on the mouth but yet no one calls them gay. "It's just a gimmick " it's no different with metal music, it's for enjoyment granted it's no for everyone and that fine but people need to realize reality from artistic expression
All the bands write the messages just to piss off the uber conservative puritans. None of them actually believe in satanism. Its a performance, like a movie.
Shawn Ketchum I’m not taking sides, I personally couldn’t care less, but I’m pretty sure religious people don’t care whether or not the use of satan is for show or a part of the beliefs that the band holds. Not worth it trying to argue against those kinds of people because their minds are set and aren’t open to persuasion
First of all the "popoluar" music lyrics are all about sex, relationships, drugs and love. Really I found some informations that 92% of modern music are about love and sexuality. Second thing is that you probably have your opinoin based by listening to others, this is t your PERSONAL opinion, and if it is, than u probably really bad at poem and finding som secrets. U didn t really read some metal lyrics. Read some lyrics by bands like Gojira,Tool,Dream Theather and more others and than come back, than we can talk. Peace
I couldnt get myself to like death metal. It's where I draw the line and yaknow, I consider myself a decently cultured metalhead. Megadeth, metallica, judas priest, pantera, iron maiden, even metalcore bands like killswitch engage where there's a combination of screaming and singing. Throw in some prog bands like dream theater in there or protest the hero too. But man, I cant even bring myself to like something basic in the death metal space like slipknot. It's a matter of personal taste I guess.
So I've compared death metal music to loud classical music... Just my opinion but Mozart's death song (Lacrimosa) makes me want to live while Death Metal is doing its job of making me wanna die from hearing it.
Very nice video explaining it to people, what always makes people laugh is the whole "but it's so evil and gritty and dark and "satanic"" duh that's the point! Even though there are only a small handfull of death metal bands that sing about satan but some with still have lyrics taking the mick out of religion, well another way of putting it is death metal and I mean REAL death metal (deathgrind, normal death metal, old school death metal, brutal death metal, and slam) not the more melodic stuff is pretty much music where why one person doesn't like it will be the exact same reasons why another person would like it.
They also write happy songs too some death metal like Arch Enemy, Trivium, In Flames, The Agonist and the list can go on break up songs loves Insomnium is literally their schtick.
Why do people like death metal? It’s basically like asking a person why they like rap or pop or any music genre. It’s because I like it. I don’t need to tell you my reasons unless I’m getting deep into music theory with you, and most people don’t do that
i am a brutal death and black metal band lover and my reasoning, its more of what i grew up with my mom grew up with led zeppelin, matalica, and ac/dc then whn i was yonger i alwae listened to that then descovered death metal and slow climbed the latter of metal and found bands like gojira, slipknot, mashooga and a shit ton more
Metal 24/7.. I've been a metalhead for 12 years. I don't care what people think. Children of bodom, Archspire, Black Dahlia Murder, Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya etc...
Each to their own. I love rock music, but there has to be singing in it. I can't get into death metal there is rarely any melody to the track and the guitars are often OTT to compensate for this. Don't mind some screaming and shouting, as long as it has some singing to provide the melody.
@@ayxzer3226 give an example? Sorry, I am not too familiar with death metal bands. I just about got onboard with We All Rise - Arch Enemy and that was mainly due to the guitars.

Thing is ik most people love metal that still infuse their influence of blues and rock. When it strays too far and too extreme, fast, and questionable lyrics, it turns even most metalheads off. Lots of us just can’t relate to lyrics about decapitation, killing, gore, and horror shit. We want to relate to the lyrics and for them to mean something that goes along with the music. I'm having a hard time understanding you. These pop clips you showed where tortures but loved the death metal clips you picked.
He is saying that metal is good
What Necrophagist song was that?
Fermented Offal Discharge :P
SudiTV thanks the solo is amazing
Easy I relate to metal not everything is sunshine and rainbows, metal speaks about our anger and sadness pop talks about a world full of happiness which doesn't exist
David Khoury the ones on the radio are but not all pop songs
Well that’s why i like bands like Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Testament, Alice in Chains, Motorhead, Black Sabbath. Death metal is definitely just more of an acquired taste.
Very nice including Allagaeon!
what makes some satanic is the symbols and the masseges in the lyrics that some metal songs have
It's satanic for nothing more than fictional creation.
Peace
I love Technical Death Metal only bcuz they're athletic. Melodeath riff is often used to modern metal band like BFMV, Trivium, August Burns Red, etc.
Death Metal is from the underground. It is not for the masses.
Death metal is a way of expressing anger and emotion by screaming and growling
Metel shall now be known as razor moosic
3:20 how dare you? Now I want to crank up metal for a whole day to clean my ears.
Lil wayne played the fuck outta that guitar.
Enjoyed the talk thoroughly. Then you mentioned Allegaeon. You win at life.
Rock on😎🤘
So I've compared death metal music to loud classical music...
Just my opinion but Mozart's death song (Lacrimosa) makes me want to live while Death Metal is doing its job of making me wanna die from hearing it.
RIP Alexi
Very nice video explaining it to people, what always makes people laugh is the whole "but it's so evil and gritty and dark and "satanic"" duh that's the point! Even though there are only a small handfull of death metal bands that sing about satan but some with still have lyrics taking the mick out of religion, well another way of putting it is death metal and I mean REAL death metal (deathgrind, normal death metal, old school death metal, brutal death metal, and slam) not the more melodic stuff is pretty much music where why one person doesn't like it will be the exact same reasons why another person would like it.
perfectly put dawg 10/10
Because Death metal is Art
I used to hate metal when I was younger. Now my favorite band might be Entombed. Hard to chose favorites though,.
I don’t need to tell you my reasons unless I’m getting deep into music theory with you, and most people don’t do that
5:50 I hope he apologised to that guitar after the show for playing such utter nonsense on it. The fans probably thought it was good, too...
i am a brutal death and black metal band lover and my reasoning, its more of what i grew up with my mom grew up with led zeppelin, matalica, and ac/dc then whn i was yonger i alwae listened to that then descovered death metal and slow climbed the latter of metal and found bands like gojira, slipknot, mashooga and a shit ton more
lost my shit at 3:20
Mike Hedin my god......... SAME
Mike Hedin and at 5:37
Metal 24/7..
Ever heard of melodic death metal?
@@ayxzer3226 give an example? Sorry, I am not too familiar with death metal bands. I just about got onboard with We All Rise - Arch Enemy and that was mainly due to the guitars.
Jamie Low Arch Enemy is a melodeath band. At 1:53 there’s Children of Bodom. To go on, a few more examples are In Flames, Kalmah, Insomnium, Amon Amarth, Soilwork, and Dark Tranquility
@@ayxzer3226 Again, these are bands who dont really sing. Couldn't get into Amon Amarth, although enjoyed his cameo in the Viking Saga film. Some In Flames are ok, but I like the song Come Clarity and i understand most fans hate that song.....?
Jamie Low Older In Flames doesn’t really have too much harsh vocals. Soilwork is almost all clean singing but their songs require a few listens to click. If you’re looking for a perfect mix between harsh and clean vocals, there’s BTBAM.
It's not as bad as pop and lil wayne. So it must be good.
@Seb Montez I hope you don't mean at guitar
@Seb Montez not an amazing rapper imo . But eminem is
I'm addicted to death metal
nice pac man playing :D
Because we Fucking can
People also complain about the album covers and stuff. Yes i know there is lots of gore and torture, personally idc about the album covers. The only thing i like is the music, not the album art
i used to hate it but now i realized that death metal is good!!!!!!!
4:40 dude, Allegaeon are pure magic
It’s not that death metal is dark. It’s because not a soul can understand a word being said.
thought Terrance Hobbs for a sec 5:40
I tried Death metal many a times, but I returned back to Thrash ,NWOBHMetal, even a little bit of Power metal and the instrumental works of artists like M.Friedman ,Vai etc.(however bands like Opeth,Death are one of my favourite metal bands ) .
I agree man. Thrash/alternative/groove metal is all i need 🤘🏽
2:10 rest in peace
What band is that
awsome video
for me, i hear and play metal song because of the fucking guitar, bass and drum you noobs. the screaming is just the add on. middle finger to metal haters. who are them to judge the genre. every people have difference taste. so if u want people to respect your taste, u have to learn the vice versa first. trust me, at first maybe you found that metal song is ridiculous, but after u can feel the art, u even can make them as a lullaby song. peace no war 🤘🏻
> says Nile sounds worse than a dump
> includes a Justin Bieber's song and Lil Wayne playing a guitar in the video
The irony is -killing me- raping and regurgitating my corpse
He was actually explaining why metal is good not bad did you watch the vid?
You're from austin?
oh shit now im liking metal
Love you content
Want more of it
3:20 perfect dude
OH No God!
This is just as stupid as watching ufc and asking " why are people hitting each other?"or how come they don't sell hot dogs at BURGER King.
I love Death Metal, and give a shit about the haters. I don't give a shit about pop music.
Anthony Bewitching You obviously do give a shit, or else you wouldn’t have made a comment about it 🤷🏻♀️
Who are you and why are you talking to Me? I don't have time for trollers. I don't give a shit about pop music, plain and simple. You don't like, don't care.
@@alicelovesminhyuk who are you and why are you talking to me. Don't have time for trollers.
Anthony Bewitching I’m Alice and I’m talking to you because your comment is very hypocritical. That’s not considered trolling, it’s being real. If you really don’t care, you just don’t talk about it, plain and simple. 🤷🏻♀️
Leave me alone. I was saying what I felt . I was not being a hypocrite. Now leave me alone.
No hate to whoever listens to death metal. Just my point of view.
Honestly i don’t even think those that listen to death metal relate to the lyrics so idk 🤷🏽♂️
Nah
