- As you can tell I'm a bit excited over the release of the trim tool. This is one of the most frequently asked for tools for a long time and it does not disappoint.
Keep watching for a look at what else is new in v1.7 which just dropped as a public release candidate. Line tool overhaul, trim tool, reworked camera support, BSL laser support, and much more...

LOL I was waiting for scissor tool forever.
XTool S1, D1, and D1 pro are all natively supported with this release, no longer using GRBL compatibility mode.
I hate when people say "Lightburn is too expensive".........this is the reason I love Lightburn......the ROI is amazing and they listen to customers. I am still waiting for them to work on the art library. It would be nice to have a main catagory of a linvrary called "Ornaments" and then jave a drop down arrow where you can have all different ones.
Amazing that they listen
happy day! love the new trim tool. That makes editing so much easier. ty for sharing. 😊
Carl, great video, just subscribed and can’t wait to see more videos!
Awesome, thanks for the sub!
Lots of great adds and upgrades. Thanks for this video!
I needed this feature this weekend!
Thank you so much for showing updates no one else let's us know what updates are
Definitely check out the release notes once a version has officially released. There is gold to be found there.

Thank you! Great updates!! 😊
Good video. I'm excited about these new features. I'll wait until the Beta is done testing though.
1.6.03 has bundles. I know you mentioned you were not sure, so just wanted to add this. Lots of cool features being added it seems in 1.7. Thanks for the video
@LetsDIYIt yeah I've been testing 1.7 for so long it blended together and I just couldn't remember if bundles existed in 1.6. Thanks for the sanity check.
The Tinkerverse, cool video it was really entertaining
Thanks :)
Good Job keep up the good work.. Well stated.
Good news, will put it more on par with Aspire for vector editing
Thank you!
Great review. Can't wait for it to hit us end users.
It's available now as a public release candidate. It will install along side your current build as LightBurn (PreRelease) so you can retain your existing version for production needs until you are comfortable with the RC.
I’m not completely computer savvy, but how do we load this prerelease?
Mines showing 1.6 as up to date
WOW Thanks Sir
Anytime.
Nice video and I love this new version RC. Trying to figure out the Windows 11 virus threat before I put it on my brand new machine laptop though.
There is (or was) a known issue with this. It's safe to ignore and you may have to temporarily bypass the pre-scan in your browser. It has something to do with the new location they are using to make the beta/release candidate files available for download.
@thetinkerverse I reluctantly disabled my McAfee and Bitdefender and installed RC 1.7. That TRIM tool is just too handy to pass up. 🤣 The new PC is up and running. Thanks for everyone's input. I've seen some seriously messed up $#!+ come from malware so I was nervous as hell about doing it. 😆
wish they would upgrade the trace image tool
Just got a fiber, perhaps your 101 video could perhaps start with you testing the commarker materials
Would be nice to see built in nesting too
Assuming you're familiar with this, but for those who aren't, while it's not full nesting docking can be very useful to get you close. You can either turn on the docking toolbar or use Arrange > Dock to dock your selected shapes vertically or horizontally. I'm planning to cover docking a bit in an upcoming tips and tricks video.
Ok they finally got trim right. The node editing trim was a pos!
It did the job but not nearly as intuitive as this is. I love the way the new trim works. Highlighting the segment to be trimmed is a nice touch.
This trim tool is just a shiny interface on top of the existing trim tool, so you’re still using the old one.
That said, the automatic joining was added and a lot of bugs and weird cases it didn’t handle were fixed.
@@lightburnsoftware7189 i guess the problem I had was that I never knew if it was actually going to work. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. By highlighting the line that’s about to be trimmed you can see what it will do.
I wonder if they finally fixed the wonky scaling when pasting from illustrator?
Make sure your DPI import settings are configured for what you use the most. AI uses 72 DPI while Inkscape uses 96 DPI by default. As long as that matches your drawing tools settings you should be fine with scaling.
The software now supports BSL based boards apparently! But my computer refuses to install the public release candidate, thinks it's harmful. Will look into it.
Known issue at the moment but you can temporarily bypass your download scanning in the browser to pull the file down. I think they were working to resolve this.
@@thetinkerverse Thank you, much appreciated.
This is great. Is there a way to drop the material test onto the screen before starting the job? I don't always know the XY coordinates
Funny, I was actually going to post that same question on the LB forum yesterday and got distracted. I would love to be able to tweak and add additional text to the card before cutting or maybe combine cards into a single job so putting it into the workspace would be a welcome addition.
That said, you can set X/Y as the last value in each setting. Set a value of say 50 for each and do a frame and see if it looks right. Adjust those settings as needed for your material location.
What about the smaller engravers like the Daja dj6 no workee for this 😢
I'm not familiar with that one but you can post to the LB forum and open a discussion. Assuming it's gcode based it should be pretty straight forward unless it uses some really obscure controller.
Where did the round corners feature go
It's still there. Press CTRL when you have your shape selected and the blue dot will appear. I think the control handles were getting a bit crowded so they made it peek-a-boo style. You can also use the radius tool on the left toolbar and click individual corners to radius or if it's a primitive shape like a rectangle or polygon, the Shape Properties window can be used as well.
Good video. I like Lightburn though I did not care for their decision to drop Linux support which I use. I would have to buy a new laptop in order to use the newer versions as the screen of my current laptop does not have the necessary resolution and it is easier to adjust in Linux. Oh well, I guess I don't really need a new version as 1.5 works just fine for me.
1.7 supports Linux and will continue to do so. You just won't get updates past the 1.7.x versions. This was covered in great depth on their forum and while I understand both sides of the discussion, ultimately they chose what they felt was right for their company.
@@thetinkerverse Interesting. I was sure I read somewhere or saw a video saying Linux would not be supported after version 1.5. Oh well, that is good to know. Thanks.
When updating lightburn, will I lose saved settings?
You shouldn't, no. You can always export a bundle or your preferences first just in case. The prerelease will install along side your mainstream release version so it will install with no settings but you can export/import them between the versions.
One thing I notice in the RC version is that when I'm in dark mode I can't see any icons as they are also dark.
I haven't played with dark mode much. I'll have to give that a look since every other tool I use is in dark mode. Was it different in a previous version?
They updated in RC10. Currently it doesn't go into darkmocfe now. I beleive this is a workaround until they can redesign a version of the UI for darkmode.
@@billtuttle7855 Yeah, caught something about that in the forums. Thanks for the update.
can we change settings after a job has been started
You can. It won’t affect the running job though, if that was your question.
When is v1.7 out? I just checked my update and my 1.6.03 is still listed as the latest most updated version.
Details are provided in the video. th-cam.com/video/YLlU41N8bN4/w-d-xo.html
If I were to jump on the beta. Would that wipe out my previous settings, or add to it?
If you follow the directions in the forum post, it will install a 2nd copy called LightBurn (PreRelease) with the default configuration. I won't make any changes to your existing installation.
Where do you find that update page
forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/public-release-candidate-1-7-00/148441/7
Where the heck is the update??? I use the update option in lightburn and it tells me I am up to date at version 1.6.03.
Even going to their web site the only one that I can down load is 1.6.03.
Whats up with that??
I'm guessing you didn't watch the full video :)
th-cam.com/video/YLlU41N8bN4/w-d-xo.html
@@thetinkerverse You also started by stating "public release candidate" which implies beta version
I've just tried 1.7 & the fill function is not working for me - macOS 12.7...
What's not working specifically? I've done lots of fill engraving with it through the beta testing. Might be helpful to jump over to the LB forum and post what's going on with a few screenshots and maybe your project file so it can be looked at.
Do you mean it’s not showing fills in the edit window? That is the default / intended behavior - you preview to see them.
If you want filled rendering in the edit view you turn it on in the Window menu > Filled Rendering.
So why cant i update it says im up to date 1.6.03
You have the follow the steps I showed you in the video. Go to the forum and go to the public release candidates. Rick has a post detailing the steps for how to install a release candidate version. You won't see it in your updates until it is a final release.
@@thetinkerverse ok I'll wait I thought it was released
I tried it out on my older Asus i3 and had to disable Windows Defender to get it installed. Some really cool features in it. I just bought a new Windows 11, i7, 16g ram 1tb solid state had and it quarantined it immediately flagging a critical virus threat in Windows Defender and McAfee on the brand new machine. Anybody else seen this?
I need help. I haven't been using my laser and Lightburn for very long but I am trying to do something I would think is fairly simple but can't figure it out and cannot find a tutorial for it. Imagine a US flag, blue box filled, place a star into the filled area so the stars stay unburned. Or more specific, a photo of a star with a circle around it (like a marshall's badge) where the background fill burns between the openings of the badge's star but the badge stays unburned. Anyone?
Just put them on the same layer and it will leap frog and engrave every other shape. So if you draw a box with a star in it and place both the box and the star on the same layer, set the layer to fill and that should do exactly what you're describing.
@thetinkerverse There is the problem. I'm not drawing the star. It's a photo of a police badge that is a star with a circle around it (US Marshall's badge) with an open background being dropped onto the filled box. I'm not placing two "filled" drawings on top of each other. But thank you. I found a workaround. I made a circle the same size as the star and then created odd shaped blocks to fill the spaces within the badge. Placed all of these on top of each other and made ot work.
Just purchased Lightburn last week, 🤦♂️ I don’t think they include updates
You get a years worth of updates with a new purchase and then next year you pay for another year's subscription for updates
@@derekwright2388 😅 awesome news! Thanks
When there is an update, it will pop up on the screen. You then click yes or no if you do or don't want the update. It happens with every update for a year, then it's only like 30 bucks a year after the first initial year. Have fun!!
I don't see the update?
Covered in the video: th-cam.com/video/YLlU41N8bN4/w-d-xo.html
Cmon man, you should have said this is BETA in the TITLE..... I just bought the update and still not available. For others confused, it's in TESTING currently and NOT released. You CAN test it though.
I said in the first 15 seconds that it was a release candidate. That is different from Beta in that it's largely been tested and this is the last step before releasing as mainstream. I even walked through going to the forum and showed where to go read about the Release Candidate process @13:10
@@thetinkerverse You stated public release candidate? What is that lol? Maybe to you it's obvious it's not out, but not everyone. It hasn't been released yet is the main problem. It's your channel man, do you. I was simply trying to help by stating you may want to change the title, as it currently suggests its out already. I think you know what you're doing, just expressing it may be a bit difficult as you seem to have an in-depth knowledge of this. I hope this helps.
@@TheCartoons4you Fair points and I'll keep them in mind going forward.
@@thetinkerverse I'm looking forward to your 101 classes!
why would anyone want to be building artwork in their laser program?? never made any sense to me.
