    why is it so hard to find out how much a venue ACTUALLY costs? pricing lists are so confusing and i feel like they never give a direct answer!

    • @brickbreck
      @brickbreck 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I know this is late but it depends on the day and season... an in-season wedding (April-October/November) vs an out-of-season wedding can vary in cost by as much as up to a 75% discount. Also, since people are more drawn to a weekend wedding because work whether it be the bride/groom’s work demands or the guests’. I’ve seen a weekday wedding vs a weekend wedding save 25-50% off because of how much more common a weekend reservation is. Also, prices change/increase by year so if they put out a straightforward price list it could wind up being out-of-date or inaccurate. Finally, venues are notoriously expensive so if they put out the cost outright it might discourage the bride/groom/representative from considering them as an option and it could prevent the venue’s ability to work with them. There’s other aspects I’m missing or forgetting but I hope this helped.

      @LuceWithLove 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I literally just chose the only one of them that gave me a straightforward price 🤷‍♀️😃

      @@brickbreck
      Just like Luce with Love, I would always prefer a vendor or seller with an official price list.
      Really don't like having to phone for, haggle for or even guess prices. 🙄
      Tell me upfront or I will assume it's very expensive and look elsewhere. 🤷‍♂️

    Super keen on how to become a wedding planner part 2.
    Biggest questions are:
    How did you gain your first 5 or so clients?
    How do you go with securing clients with only of had planned your own and friends weddings. Like how did you feel comfortable offering a service you hadnt really been doing professionally yet ?
    Do you recomend only offering month of coordination to get started?
    What are your best stratagies in the actual managing of behind the scenes planning as a planner? Would love even a whole video on the nitty gritty of that question
    For gaining work experience learning from other planners, what is the best way to increase chances of them agreeing to take you under their wing even for just 1 wedding?
    I would also love to see a video of behind the scenes wedding planning. Like a week of little snippets of meetings, research, ect.

    I think people who skip through the video to get to the “Info” are the type of people who don’t really care about others! During the intro is where we get to know who you are in a way so I say keep the intro’s! They can skip through all they want but us people who what to know who we are listening to appreciate them!

  • @katjaoksanen944
    @katjaoksanen944 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Yes bring on Mr finger guns! You guys are such an adorkable couple! And don't you dare shorten your intros, they're a ray of sunshine and a gift to humanity!
    I didn't know American weddings had such a short timeline for the dinner, I suddenly understand how so many newlyweds miss out on eating. Scandinavian, and I think most European weddings, have at least two hours of sitting down if not longer. You have all the speeches (so many speeches), the games, the cake cutting and obligatory dances.
    It's a real job keeping things together during dinner so you have one or two friends be the toast madame/master to run the show. They literally tell the guests when they can go out for a toilet break or smoke. It's the toughest job of them all cause a shitty MC will mess up the whole evening, like at my cousins wedding where half the guests missed either the first dance or the cake cutting cause the MC didn't tell us when we should be back. They also had a buffet which was absolute mayhem. Luckily our toast madame has the look of an angel but the disciplinarian skills of a catholic nun, me and Daniel will be able to just relax and let her run the show 😂

      Your bridesmaids are your friends right? Me, I'd talk with them have an actual mature honest conversation, individual or group. They should be your support and help, but they are still your friends and you probably dont want to ignore their feelings and make them feel totally irrelevant

      @consistentlychristy2991 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Tilar Williams I’m sorry you’re having problems. I dunno, its a difficult situation for sure. But maybe if she doesn’t want to contribute, ask her if she’s sure she wants to be a bridesmaid. You’re not getting the help you need and I guess she’s not happy about whatever, so you could give her the option of opting out if things aren’t too far.

    In my case, a destination wedding is a lot cheaper. My fiancé’s family is huge and they all live in Puerto Rico. Airfare is only needed for us and my parents. The church, the food, and the reception space are all cheaper over there too. So it ends up saving us a lot of money. But I guess it really depends on the size of your wedding and how far away the destination is. In our case, were just inviting close friends and family. Thank you for all of your advice. You’re amazing.

    Jamie, thank you so much for addressing the divorced parent question! We're really struggling with my Fiance's recently divorced parents who very much dislike each other and the families even really dislike each other. We're doing everything we can to diffuse tension, but it just seems like their DEAD SET on causing drama. I'm so over it and soooo stressed. Thankfully my family is trying really hard to help make it easier on me, and I meet with my Day Of Coordinator in May and hopefully she'll have more ideas for us. But I really appreciate your advice, thank you so much!! 💕

      Mosa. The. Queen as a bridesmaid I have left my bag with my partner for one wedding. Another wedding we all gave our bags to Mum (who was MOB) and she held on to them for the ceremony. For my wedding I plan on having a small bag and leaving with Mum for the ceremony as she will come in the car with me. After ceremony will give my phone to husband to put in his pocket in case we want to snap a selfie whilst off getting photos.

    On RSVP though, only ONE (1), yes 1, person RSVPed for my wedding. (To be fair with our guests, we're in the Philippines and people are not so used to that... maybe?). The guestlist was driving me nuts 2 weeks before the wedding so WE (my husband and I) decided to let the invitations do their jobs with limiting the guests according to the number of seats mentioned on their invites. We had 35 people in excess, but the venue was gracious enough to wave the corkage fee for the extra food my in-laws brought in! So everyone lived Happily Ever After. :) AND Jamie, I never stopped watching your videos after I got married last January 26th. Love you to bits.

    Yess, please have your husband come on! I would love to know what are groomsmen expectations (to groom and vice versa), their roles, maybe his (or your) tips on how to rent/buy tuxes, anything that is groom or groomsmen related. My fiance does not have any sisters and I don't have any brothers, so we are kind of clueless as of how to do this and what we should do for them.
    Also, insight on what it's like to have a big bridal party, who pays for what (I'm sure it depends on what you are doing and budget limits) but if I have a good idea of what to know, I can pass it along to my husband-to-be, because we are both the first to get married in our families and we are LOST. Well, me not so much with all of your awesome videos!! 😘 THANK YOU!!

    Hi Jenn! I love your content. Entertaining yet straight to the point. Can you do a video on tipping vendors? I’ve heard mixed recommendations about tipping vendors that own their own business vs not (e.g. photographer vs staff at a catering company or venue). May even be awkward but what about a coordinator? Also is 20% the right amount even if the service is $5-12k?

  • @Catherine3385

    Jamie can you do a video on wedding pictures? I think the important pictures are the candid fun pictures with friends and family. Others think its the posed pictures.
    Also, what are your thoughts on bridal party joining the cocktail hour? Then still making a 'grand entrance'
    I guess I feel missing the entire cocktail hour for photos silly. And while the pictures will be beautiful, pictures of everyone at the cocktail hour interacting would be more fun to look at 20-30 years from now. But maybe I am wrong.

Do you have to have all of them if not which ones are important to focus on and what is the proper etiquette of who plans and pays for them and who should attend or be invited to each? Additionally, budget ways to hosts these events that guests won't frown at, like is it okay to host a rehearsal dinner at a restaurant and everyone pays for their own meal? Any guidance or help here would be great. Love your videos I so wish I found you earlier in my planning process.

      Jahiedy Vinas I’m also the first one in my family to get married. It’s hard because the last time my mom planned a wedding was hers almost 30 years ago! I’m trying to get over the venue hump, but after I book a venue it should be fun again. Keep the wedding hope alive! 🤞🏾

    What I would love to know is some advice for incorporating loved ones who have passed away into your wedding! Especially if one of the parents of the bride or groom passed away and is not present for the wedding. In my case my Mom passed away almost 3 years ago and I want to "have her there" without really "being there" so to speak! And also just advice on proper etiquette for all aspects of handling that!

      Tori Z. I saw where one girl hung small framed pictures (almost like lockets) of people they had lost but wanted to be there, on her bouquet. So they 'walked down the aisle' with her. I thought that was sweet.

    Question! We’re having a family friend dj our wedding and thinking about the ceremony, what would be the best way for music with that? I’ve read people use an iPod or cd and that can have complications with timing. I’ve also gotten recommendations for hiring a school band or local musicians to have during. What is your opinion on ceremony music and is it essential? We will be having the ceremony and reception in the same venue but different buildings.

    I am not engaged at the moment, but I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out my dream wedding(I am a major procrastinator usually, so the more of this I get done before I do have to actually start planning, the better) and I am stuck on a few things.
    One of the biggest is: I am planning to invite all of my family(aunts, uncles, and cousins), but there is one set(an aunt, her new husband, and a cousin) who dramatize everything. They've repeatedly told others that a few of my family aren't part of the family because of something petty. I really don't want my aunt there, but I know there will be even more drama if I don't invite them.

    Hey Jamie! I have been watching so many of your videos recently and they are crazy helpful!! Do you have any tips for a wedding with two brides? Me and my fiancee are slowly realising how many wedding details are based around gender. Like what do we do about walking down the isle? Who gives speeches?? Any help would be gratefully received xxx

    Hi Jamie! Regarding the tablecloths, my wedding planner is offering to purchase them for us (she owns her own storage unit of rental items that she loans out to her brides). It would be, of course, cheaper if she bought them for us and we paid 50% of the cost (which is her proposal) than renting them from a typical rental company. Do you think I should take her up on her offer given I won't be responsible for ironing / set up / tear down / cleaning of the tablecloths or still rent them? Also, wondering if I should warn her given your troubles with tablecloths!

    Jamie, what do you suggest when it comes to family merging two weddings into one. My brother decided to get married a month before my wedding and wont be having a reception. I'm worried that my family will be trying to take our wedding and ceremony to celebrate both.

    If I've decided I want to hire a day-of wedding coordinator, how do I vet them to make sure they're going to be good and actually help? I've heard some horror stories of people hiring planners or coordinators and it not going how they had hoped.

      I think reviews from previous clients on weddingwire.com together with those on theknot.com are super helpful in weeding through potential vendors.

    I'm a bride who's a little stressed about the seating chart. I wasn't sure if it was optional to have one, but I think it's necessary. I don't want all of my guests playing musical chairs and bumping around tables, spots that aren't filled due to an odd party number, etc. However, half of my guests are white and the other half are Mexican. And while there's no extreme tension, I know that my Mexican family feels a certain way being around white people. They think we're stuck up, they act very nervous, and it's a very awkward situation. A lot of my Mexican guests don't speak a lot (or any) of English, so I don't want that awkward moment where my guests can't talk with each other. I'm thinking that I'm going to group tables by families and put groups that are close to each other, together. This way conversations can flow, there won't be any awkwardness, etc. However, I have this dream vision that everyone will come together and our families "will become one" lol. I wish there were more videos on this topic of multicultural weddings and how damn stressful it all is. I wasn't expecting this AT ALL, but it's turning out to be on the top list of stressors. The seating, the food, the music, the traditions, etc. It's insane!

      We are having the same issue. Future son in law's family speaks mostly spanish and we are white. So we want to group together for comfort. But it feels like it's coming out spanish on one side of the dance floor, white on the other.
      Next 'problem' is going to be the music lol

      Blend tradition, food and music, keep guests separated by families, doesn't matter if you have all white and all mexican table. Everybody will have more fun, and will engage the amount they feel comfortable with, and that might be more than you expect...

    • @Catherine3385
      @Catherine3385 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flower Petal, I agree. It kind of made me sad to divide and not blend everyone but they will all feel more comfortable that way.
      But the dance floor and margarita bar will be a different story!!

    I have a coordinator question for you. My caterer provides a month of coordinator, they are also doing all our rentals, insurance, set up, tear down, and bartenders (we get to provide the alcohol so we can keep the cost in check and have anything that is left - or return it) in addition to the food and cake. Besides our photographer they are basically the only vendor we have coming to the venue (separate but the caterer has done other weddings there). BUT we are having the ceremony at our church - 20 minutes away so the coordinator most likely will need to be at the reception venue during the ceremony getting everything ready since we dont get the building until that morning and they have to literally bring in a kitchen because it is a castle hall (reproduction 1000 - 1300's style) so has absolutely nothing in it. Should I find out if the vestry at church provides a coordinator there to help with the sending people in thing? I know the altar guild will take care of setting up our decor and filling the candles but I dont know about getting the ceremony started. We have to cross a large courtyard to get from the parish house where we will be hiding out before hand into the church which is its own building - and we will be hiding upstairs because the only bathrooms are in the Parish House (church building dates to the early 1800's and has had no additions since). Not sure how that is all going to work - but I dont want to hire a second coordinator when we already have one for the reception.
