    Rarity collection 2 , Dragon Master Magia, the infamous "ask your friend," incident, and now a new overpriced must play engine for the fifth time over $300 really shows how much Konami hates us. Especially us old players who use the game as an escape to better times, now a lot of us have bills to pay, mouths to feed, not to mention a game that doesn't even provide proper prizing( doesn't have to be money,but quality prize support you see in Locorna is a prime example.)Either they need to get in touch with their player base or find new management that cares about the player base, rather than scalping us for our nostalgia

We've complained so much these past sets, and they still released important cards as secret rares. I wouldn't doubt if they looked at the sales of the set Tempai came in and deduced that releasing meta cards at super rare wasnt worth doing. They're in it to make money. Totally agree. I've actually been looking to get back into the game for like 2 years and what made me keep up more with the game again are MBT, Joshua Schmidt as well as Cimo's and TheLawYGO's History series. But what the game offered just wasn't attractive enough to be bothered, so I turned to older formats. Sadly I'm a pretty all or nothing kinda guy when it comes to card games so I would want to actually play one of if not the best deck. But why would I spend out so much money for Tear let alone SnakeEye, which is not only way more expensive but also way less fun and intricate, if I don't even know how long my commitment would last? Also Master Duel, which I had high hopes for, is just ruined for me by Maxx C and only Bo1.
      Honestly, if I look at how poorly designed SnakeEye and now Fiendsmith are, I don't think the newer formats will be worth it for me any time soon. I might have pretty high standards for the quality of TCG formats at this point, but if the current TCG is a hard sell for people who actually want to play and already jumped most of the hurdle of just learning the rules of such a complex game, I can't image many new players to get into it.

    For me Yu-Gi-Oh "died" 3 times, first was when links were released, that made most of my close friends stop playing and made it hard to enjoy it in a social way. Second, was when covid happened, there were no more locals, regionals etc, so it made it hard to play competitive ( I did not wish to play remote duels) and lastly, tearlaments format killed it for me, I did not want to be part of Yu-Gi-Oh if It meant dealing with all that nonsense. I have tried out master duel( although dealing with Maxx c has made it tough to enjoy as well) and I do continue to watch yugitubers a lot . Maybe I'll return one day soon.

    I feel like the tweet about MD is massively underplaying the issues master duel has/had and I don't think any of them have been meaningfully addresses. We had people like Ludwig streaming the game on release and still failed to convert almost anyone to paper play.

    • @sammydray5919

      Didn't Ludwig lose his mind over a monster being activated in hand? Dont think thats particularly an MD issue tbh.

    • @DamnZodiak
      @DamnZodiak 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@sammydray5919 What I'm saying is that a huge streamer like him showing off the game should translate at least somewhat to event numbers/, but it didn't. Almost no one who starts playing MD goes into paper play.
      There is a huge player conversion issue and that IS (at least partially) a Master Duel issue.

    • @sammydray5919
      @sammydray5919 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@DamnZodiak Again not really. There are certain advantages to MD that don't translate to paper game. The biggest thing is accessibility. You can play MD whenever you want and however you want be it on PC or mobile and you can play whatever you want. Paper play doesn't offer that kind of flexibility since it requires not only owning the actual cards but to also physically going to the store/event to play. Travel time and costs on top of the real prices and availability of the cards and other accessories you might need.
      And thats assuming there is a locals scene near where you live. If not then good luck trying to play the paper game lol. Remote duel? Yeah no. If someone is gonna play online anyway they might as well play MD from home without having to shell out money for real cards unless you just like collecting them in that case do whatever you want king.
      Also as much as I like this game, Yugioh has reached a level where its very hard for new players to get into the game period. As popular MD was on release, the massive drop off and failure to convert is mostly a flaw with the game itself than specifically MD's fault. Granted MD's poor tutorial didn't help but that doesn't change the fact that actual Yugioh itself isn't very welcoming to new players or even returning players.
      Most of it all Yugioh issue and not just MD issue.

    • @hermitxIII
      @hermitxIII 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@DamnZodiak A bigger issue than player conversion is that MD failed to retain a lot of returning players in general. Ranked was the only game mode(practically still is), and you had players in rookie getting stomped by sweaty meta decks. Konami's vision for MD was an "official simulator", but since it isn't up-to-date anyway, they should have started it with an older card pool, the same way Duel Links did, and they probably would have kept a lot of the casuals looking to get back into the game, while getting millions of them up-to-speed with modern mechanics.

Even Walmart doesn't have that set in stock, at all, and their Yugioh section is so pitiful, having taken over by Lorcana. Well, this pretty much is the death knell for Yugioh, in my area (an email from my locals about the state of the game, for them):
      I don't think its a stretch to say that Yugioh is dying everywhere including in Warsaw. And it is true that we don't have any of the latest set available. From a store standpoint the Yugioh market is terrible. For what they charge US for the boxes we don't make any money selling the boxes/packs since the market price for the boxes ALWAYS drops below MSRP. If we have a set like Rarity Collection 2 that has a higher cost/price attached the customers complain about the price and won't buy any even though we are only trying to sell them at MSRP.
      With this last set we only ordered 3 boxes because one customer wanted them. All of the other sets we've ordered we would order a case, MAYBE go through 2-3 boxes worth of packs for customers and the rests sits and collects dust. Because of the lack of buying on our customers end we have heavily changed our Yugioh buying habits to buy much less of what we were buying before.
      The Sunday crowd of players is dwindling, and Zach has mentioned stopping Yugioh and just doing Magic on Sunday since they can't seem to find enough players to really fill a Sunday. We tried to offer a booster box as a prize for the last tournament we ran, but the customers complained about the set we were offering so we stopped that as well. Zach runs the tournaments and he was pissed when people complained about the prizes so he hasn't ran any since.
      Honestly Yugioh as a whole is looking grim. If it werent for the few customers we have that actually buy stuff we wouldn't carry it at all.

    Paper yugioh is dying, and the TCG community are not making things any better. Duel Links is fine and on the rise and MD is fine and also on the rise. There's a trend of playing digital yugioh now because no one wants to buy the cards, and card shops are not selling yugioh because konami wants to do their nonsense, so no one is happy. Its not the current decks that is killing Yugioh but you have to admit the average player and people outside the community did NOT like Tear or Kash, those decks were the most unyugioh deck from an outsider perspective and even game development perspective. The players and those who pilot the deck saw nothing wrong with what they were doing, but it's because they're already in the scene.
    There are people that are coming in to play yugioh and that anime announcement did help out, multi media is the way to go like it was before. Make new animes, new games, new manga, they could have an entire yugioh division to make yugioh themed stuff far greater than ever before with 25 years of material from the manga and even the archtypes themselves! That's what people want with yugioh, and that's why its dying because there isn't enough yugioh to enjoy! Yes theres the card game and the games and what not, but is there a Six Samurai video game? A Evil Twin visual novel? A Dark Magician RPG? No, that's what people want. Dawg a Diabellestar game in the same vein as bayonetta would go so hard. People are gonna miss Yugi and they do, but they miss seeing their favorite monsters more. Hell, an anime with the Elemental Heroes set like Justice League Unlimited? That's the key for Yugioh's growth and why people love Yugioh so fondly over other card games.

      All the top meta cards are slowly going down in price though. Wanted was a $100 secret rare now is $25

      @HotRed00 prolly cause snake eyes is near the end of its life cycle as a tier 1 deck. We've already seen masterduel and the ocg crack down on snake eye. Better decks are coming soon and snake eyes won't stay tier 1 for long. Hell snake eyes was tier 0 for a bit. Prolly why wanted and bonfire were ridiculously priced.

      Noone is opening the product which directly causes the top cards to be expensive.
      That's another factor
