The only consistent complaint I have about Links is that there shouldn’t be Link 1 monsters. Part of what has helped speed up Yugioh was the extra deck becoming the primary toolbox for any decks big play, but it was always a trade off. Fusion summoning always required the two monsters, and often a separate fusion effect so 2-3 cards for 1. And Synchro and XYZ are both 2 monsters for 1, so aside from any card advantage that was designed into the monsters themselves you were in a sense going neg. Any extra deck monster should cost at least two cards. Zoodiac was the same problem.

His point is that links are the most efficient summoning mechanic and every other summoning mechanic has to become more efficient to catch up with links. You can't disagree with that.

  • @ejstephens7918

I get that some of his points aren't great, but it felt like Paul saying "here's how this has become more like link summoning" and Jesse just responding with "well thats not link summoning." The idea is that they are becoming more similar as time goes on, and that's true. It's also necessary due to the way the game has gone, and some of them are really cool and good for the game, but they are definitely becoming more similar to each other

Wonder how different things would have been if Links couldn't be summoned via tokens. I know its a silly what if but I do often think that using tokens for links was just a horrible mistake.

  • @dutch661

Yugioh is fundamentally broken game. I think allowing the player going 2nd to be allowed to mulligan their hand would be a good step to game balance.

  • @KestaTalis

Why aren't ritual monsters in the extra deck yet, they are fusions that work on level rules like synchros but you need to draw the big boss monster too, they take so much to make themselves useable

  • @aMindSetFree

Chaos Angel is not a "one off" case. Nirvana High Paladin is another card that allows you to treat somthing as a tuner

Funny thing - every single synchro or xyz could be made a link very easily if the link just said the restriction of the synchro or xyz: "Two level 4 monsters" could be a requirement on a link monster very easily. Same with a synchro, albeit a bit more complicated: "1 tuner monster + 1+ non-tuner monsters whos combined total level equals 8". My point is that xyz and synchro had inherent requirements. Xyz's took monsters with the same level, synchros needed tuners and a specific total level. Even fusions were unique because they required a spell or other effect by which to fusion summon, you couldn't just throw guys on the field and make whatever you wanted, at least until contact fusions came around. Fusions at least have more specific requirements. We haven't gotten a contact fusion that just says, "2 effect monsters", and has an effect like S:P (yet). Links have none of that. It's just a bunch of non-specific "effect" monsters or other extremely simple requirements, which in most cases applies to every single non-token monster in the game.

For the most part he is taking extreme edge cases and acting as that is all of the cards when it is not and is often times also just flatly wrong even then. You can tell by the video that they frequently realise this as well. Whatever point they were trying to make they did a real bad job at.

  • @brolteon2740

In a way, I agree with him but I think the cool thing about these cards like Chaos Angel, Zeus, Colossus is that they have their own legit way of making them. Like I remember playing Earth Machine and discovering you can hard make Zeus turn 1 with two level 12s, I've made Chaos Angel with like a Vishuda and an Ash Blossom in Swordsoul without the need of a 2nd light/dark monster, like its nice that they're making it accessible for a bunch of different decks to utilize these powerful cards but the reason they are their respective mechanic is because they have their place in some decks that take advantage of that summoning mechanic.

  • @SquibbyJ

Every example card was so cool tbh. Colossus was the closest to the point I think, but I feel like it was banned because it was a walking Mistake and access to even a bad floodgate on a monster is insanely good.

    the buc-ee's shirt goes hard

  • @traigongames

Gate Guardian does Contact fusion now as well and Earthbound's

  • @jujubeanz009

The extra deck is trying to keep up with the speed of the main deck which is where the extra deck feels more like a resource than it’s intended extension of the main deck. Snake eye is a true highlight of that which is why certain Extra deck cards were banned this past banlist over hitting the consistency of the engine itself.

  • @vincentalpiepedrozo2337

I like how the solution for the problem is another problem.

  • @bavarianhero

I’ve been working on a deck where I don’t have an extra deck yet but I’m dabbing with relinquished and some links. I tried making Gaurdian of Eattos compatible with some of the curse Necrofear cards. They pop off sometimes but your opponent needs to activate effects for them to activate. So far I have some good soup but I know I need a chefs kiss to make it better. Any chance you have advice to making it better. I can make the profile and you tell me if it has potential or it’s a playground deck?

about the tuner thing an x-saber has earth monster as requirement instead of a tuner (doesn't even treat it as one)
