  • With ONLY 83,000 miles on it my wifes Jeep Wrangler jk started dripping some coolant from the water pump. Let's dive into this project , change the water pump and maybe this video will make it easier for you when you have to change yours.

I went to Jeep for a thermostat, parts guy told me they are back order with no eta on restocking and that they have just been using AutoZone for the thermostat, he even called AutoZone to cross reference the part number for me. Sadly this makes me frustrated when so many jeepers say stick to oem just to have the oem tell me they use china parts. With that said I went with an O’RILEY thermostat and water pump. I had already replaced the thermostat several times thinking it was bad parts. Turns out the water pump was my issue. No signs of leaking or squealing but when removed there was play in the bearing. New O’RILEY water pump to match thermostat and problem is gone.

Thanks for the video! I used it as step x step instructions and had no problems. I work for Gates (not automotive) so thanks for the shout out! Only issue I had was getting an angle on the tensioner. Local auto parts store loans out a serpentine belt tool but I had to get it from the bottom and someone else put the belt on. This video was so much help!

Ordered ac delco idler pulleys online to save some money over Mopar as I was doing the water pump too - they are way too big - oh well back together she goes - after changing the oil cooler a month ago I can tear down pretty quick to get at all this now so I’ll just do it all over again when they come in.

What a shame that you had to replace the water pump so soon! I own a 2015 jk and like you I keep the maintenance to a “T” so far never had any serious issues with my Jeep! The only thing I replaced recently was the starter and a new battery. But lately I’ve been watching other videos like yours to get an idea of what’s coming soon just in case! That’s how I replaced my starter. Thanks for the video tutorial! Even though I don’t have to replace mine yet! But is good to know!👌😎👍great job! By the way! Mine got 78,000 miles on it!

Nice vid .. question I have the same year jeep what were your symptoms on your car was was it overheating past half way point? Mine was over heating past half way mark and when I got home added coolant and checked all my hoses radiator and nothing. Changed my thermostat used for a few days started loosing coolant from over flow so I’m thinking my pump is going out too.

    • @JunkinwithJr

My wife parked the jeep on the concrete driveway and I saw a few orange colored drips under it. I slid under it with a flash light and saw the drips and residue on the water pump.

Ok after changing thermostat, radiator, hoses, water pump even the over flow my jeep still goes to the 3/4 mark ?? I bled the coolant too tried jacking up the front and let it run for 30 minutes with a funnel to remove air with no success? Anyone having same issues ?? Took to jeep and they said it was ok and while during hone went up to 3/4 mark again. No smell of coolant in oil or wet plug??
