When you get your dyno I would be REALLY curious to see one of the new BD intake systems compared to a stock vs BANKS etc. No change other than the intake.
Sometimes things are overthought. 4th gen Cummins with Banks intake/tubes/intercooler/monster ram and a 5” cat dpf back exhaust = allows full legal flow both in and out. Result: Huge gain when towing a heavy trailer up long steep grades. Highly recommend
Allow that thing to breath and get a fleece coolant by pass. I run front and rear pyros 1-3 4-6 and that helped a lot. over all temps cooler and evened out the EGTs.
WooHoo! Another CR 2nd gen in the making. I'm finishing up mine. Tons of 3rd gen upgrades. I took a California 180hp EGR intake and cut it at the choke point. Choke was 1.25" dia. Insane!
Actually i put the banks monster ram on an 04 2500 only other mods were exhaust and volant intake. I noticed a little faster spool up and a drop in egt’s. Im sure there are cheaper routes to choose but if im going to make mods to expensive truck im not going to cut corners using cheaply made products
I run an '04.5, fabricated a 3.5" airhorn, and lost smoke upon take-off at high elevation, 5" exhaust, afe intake, stock turbo and intercooler, and 65 horse chip. Split the intake, and piped to each end of the manifold, and it balanced it out with far less shaking at 1500 rpm with 30lb boost, no longer stock turbo, injectors, etc... Neither made big power gains with butt dyno, but the split intake was huge for balanced engine amd smoke reduction. For what it's worth.
I have a DPS horn on VP truck...and obviously had a other mods....tuner and larger nozzles... didn't notice anything, but...like someone said flow probably depends more on the head itself, camshaft..ect ... but anyway...great info again man👍👍👍
I laughed when you tossed the crap one! Thanks. I bought my stock 24 value 5.9 a few years ago. It is under powered for dragging my fifth wheel around. Looking to make some up grades. I’m thinking cooling is important too.
I have an 05 and have the banks inter cooler monster ram and of course all associated tubing. Also 15% injectors meth injection, Lift pump, Modified cp3 lift pump, edge 6 level w/hot unlock and "only use for level 2 towing". Same as meth injection "only tow mode 80-90% water. Fleece coolant by pass, Bankers ram air and head studs, aurora 3000 turbo. AFE radiator and now it pulls the 5th wheel easily. I live in Idaho and we have a few hills. If you do any upgrades do yourself a favor and get a boost leak check cap that goes on turbo inlet. every diesel owner should check for boost leaks.
@@justsaynrush9689 Thanks man, always appreciate input from fellow diesel owners that drag big rigs around. It can be a challenge and lots to learn along the way.
What you want is a tapered plenum and a diffuser underneath in order to equalise air flow. Cummins fits them to many other engines they produce like the KTA19, you can see they have a triangular shaped intake plenum. Most of those horns are compromised in order to keep the original fuel lines. Big boost hoses are unnecessary IMO 3 inch is more than enough for 1000hp.
The marine 6BTs with the P-Pump and jacket water intercooler has that plenum design (it's actually the cooler not the plenum) and has the fuel lines you need to create a tapered plenum.
pfizer probably has a really good video on vaccines and medications they sell... i mean im sure theres some good info in the banks video but clearly its going to be skewed to make you feel the need to buy their product if youre running a stock turbo theres no gain from a better intake, i promise
@@AndrewBrowner flow benches don't lie. I didn't say go buy a banks intake. I just said they did Good video with a flow bench. Exact same as Rob wants to do. Take you tinfoil hat off ya nut
Anyone selling stuff will always tell you there’s some a better. I can’t argue with that. But banks does do a lot of r&d. But I will do some testing. Hopefully sooner then later
Very informative video. I have the banks intercooler with intake horn on my 04 5.9 I like it. Running a crummy BD low-end turbo came with truck. I will say I picked up a lot of economy when I did the swap and put a new same model turbo and 4" stainless exhaust. I forget how much but going From Lima Ohio to Durham NC, before the swap I would have to stop in VA to get fuel after I could make it to my parents house in Durham, with the fuel light on but still.
Banks did all this and has a full kit to take care of the other elephant's in the room,go to utube banks, all the techy info on nice charts and easy to understand.
Would you have to buy a certain air intake horn to run a non-intercooled 24v Cummins? Cummins swapping into a 96f350 and just for temporary so I can drive the truck places and save more money to buy an intercooler and different turbo, just curious if you could or not if it would affect it in a bad way or stay the same with higher egt's
You were right how you had them organized the first time The one U tossed in the beginning is common rail one. U can tell cause the bolts r all the same size the second Gen 12/24v have the two short bolts/2 long bolts I myself used the second Gen intake horn on my common rail swap for the exact reason u tossed the common rail one away for cause the restriction But great video Time for a flow bench 👌
Ya, that's why I wasted my money on the Bank's. 3rd Gen intake looked stupidly restricted. I could have made my own. I just had a wallet burning a hole in my pants. Bank's not really worth it. Nice looking piece, but that's it. Can be done cheaper.
soo........ should i put a huge ISX intake horn on my 3.9? im only slightly joking... im doing a compound turbo, SOMEday. but i had a ISX i tore down a while back and thought to myself.... i can make that work
All I know is, on my CR with decent size compounds, I did have a slight EGT improvement, and also I saw a psi drop from 63-58 with a banks intercooler and intake. Works for me.
They talk how much air the flow on a flow bench they will never come close to pulling the air that they pull on a flow bench the engine do not come close to pulling that max air unless you have a 1500 hp or more so those aren’t doing you much good but that red horn looks good but that’s about it so put your money some place else it you want more power .
I've put china 3.5 intake horn and 3.5x18 tube on driver side of a second gen, and I definitely feel it getting on power quicker and better throttle response. I'm under $150 with that

I would intercooler it for sure. But to get you buy hungry diesel makes a bolt on one. Tell him I sent you
The heads are the restriction not the horn
I not sure I agree with that. But what I get some equipment we will find out for sure.

I don’t believe anything omake one for the egr engine. But you could make your own

It's the head the problem with air flow not the horn
