This is so great! Thank you so much for sharing, I’ve been trying to tighten up my Bislama recently before my wife and I travel out there later this month. I’ve also been enjoying your vlogs as you travelled there! Love the videos!
Can confirm, the trip was incredible! @ItsYomi - I gotta ask, apart from living out in Vanuatu for a while, where did you learn Bislama? Do you have any good resources that I could use to advance my learnings further?
@@timcombridge Hey! Sorry for the late response. I didn't get a notification for this. I mainly learned Bislama from the Peace Corps workbooks online. There are also a lot of dictionaries where I searched for words. There are also some movies on TH-cam in Bislama. I also would recommend the Wikipedia articles written in Bislama. I learned a lot of vocabulary there. I'm glad you enjoyed Vanuatu.
Hey. Thank you for putting info out on Bislama. I taught at Talua Ministry Training Center in Santo back in 2004. Another good resource for learning Bislama is the Good News Bible in Bislama. It’s huge because of the lack of vocabulary in Bislama
Thank you. I hope you enjoyed the video. :) Very cool! And yes, the Bible in Bislama is very helpful. It is the book with the largest selection of words for the language. I learned so many Bislama words from it. :)
You got very good video and I like that too much :) Very interresting and educative. Thank you for that. Perhaps, just a sugestion, when I learned this language, what helped me, was the etymology behind the words like bambae/bae=by and by, olgeta-all together, olsem=all same, fala=fella, bin=been, blo=bilong, (save, pikinini) etc, and then it clicked right away, but one must be aware, they are used in Bislama in much more-more broader sense. What is interresting is, that most of these words is recorded in english pidgins/creols all over the world, not just in Melanesia.
Good tips! These are excellent. Yes, it is interesting to see how words change. And it's interesting how creoles in different countries have similarities. Thank you for your comment. :)
