    These lyrics are so adorable because can you just imagine hozier babbleing on and on about something that doesn't make any sense to anybody besides hozier and people are starting to stare and this girl being like oh don't worry guys he's just being himself ans proceeding to kiss his cheek and hold his hand

    I'm a 62 yr old guy that works a boring factory job. I was working with a summer helper when a good old song came on the radio and the girl knew it and liked it which surprised me. we talked music a little and she said I should make her a song list. I did. Etta James, Nils lofgren, Ray price, all over the board, all good music. when I gave it to her I said she had to make me one back. this was the first song on her list. in 5 seconds I loved the song. By the time they finished the chorus the first time thru i said to myself "this HAS to have been a huge hit. how come I don't know this song??" she's off work now and I don't know when this came out, was it a huge hit and I just plain missed it, or is it brand new? I don't even know how to pronounce the groups name. any insight you can provide will be anxiously awaited. thanks for listening

      This came out a couple of years ago. I never heard this song of his on the radio. I just listened to it after I listened to take me to church (the song he’s known for which played on the radio bunches a couple years back). If you like this I’d recommend listening to his other songs someone new, take me to church, and arsonists lullaby. All good songs of his that never got played on the radio. And you pronounce his name hose-yer. Hope I could help ya out a little

      His name is Andrew Hozier-Byrne. Better known to his friends as simply "Hozier". He's from County Wicklow just down from the road from me in deepest, darkest Ireland. It's pronounced "Hoe-zee--yer" and he's a formidable talent, clearly.

      You should definitely look up Shawn James. Bloodhound, trough the valley, burn the witch to name a few of his songs. He's great, and reminds me a lot of Hozier, just with more dirty old blues and a testosterone filled voice. 🔥

    Anyone else notice how he sang "I start digging up the years of what's left of me and our little vignette for whatever poor soul is coming next" and in his other son Like Real People Do it's about giving your partner the space and respect to grieve through their own past without demanding to hear about it, and he sings, "Why were you digging? What did you bury // Before those hands pulled me from the earth?" and later in the song he sings, "I knew that look, dear: eyes always seeking // Was there in someone that dug long ago // So I will not ask you why you were creeping // In some sad way, I already know."
    I interpret as understanding how hurt and scathed a heartbreak can leave the soul - so if his partner reacts impulsively with jealousy or doubt, he gets it. It doesn't justify it, but he understands where the emotion comes from because he's been wrecked before, too. Wow. I love this man.

    From my point of view, this song is about a person who got to trully know his or herself at the same time they got to know romantic love. It's such a innocent and fresh but desperate feeling, they are desperate to be saved and experience life the way they always desired but fear this may end as they realize they (the person end their lover) are still too immature and unable to grow together. If they intend to stay together, they Will have to be strong and walk hand-in-hand through their first adulthood experiences, which is way harder than doing it alone.

    • @carolbolte4315

      To me it's about a one night stand. He goes to night club or something putting up a facade. Meets a girl, she calls him out on the facade, he starts to day dream about their future life together and the possibility of maybe throwing away all his facades and this person liking his genuine self (versions of myself buried in the yard outside) then as the girl is sleeping after they have had sex he has a moment of clarity and realizes its just meaningless sex and this person doesnt know the true him (digging up his facades from the garden)

    • @ZestyStupidGirl
      @ZestyStupidGirl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      To me its about a missed opportunity. He meets a girl that he has fun with and can have a night of relaxation after a long stressful period (the facades representing the various faces he has to put on for things like work and other responsibilities). He gets carried away with the feeling of letting loose and envisions and entire life like that night, with the girl he happens to be with, but then the night ends he has to "dig up" his old facades and go back to dealing with his respinsibilities, and the girl just leaves before he can figure out a way to get her to stay in his life longer. Its not so much about the girl herself rather than the feelings he's having at the moment and his idea of an idealic life - "Dig up the vindette for the poor soul that comes next."

      In a Sense it is. The Black Iris is a famous painting by Keetle which represents the female genitalia.
      Although the actual meaning goes to Egyptian mythology. Isis was the goddess of love and she was seen as both the perfect example of a woman and a mother. Whilst the Black Iris is a representation of Death which rose from the death of the God Osiris who was killed by his brother Seth.

      I think he’s saying he wants a sort of unyielding young love, like waiting for someone to get home before having a fun time on the town or smthn because he never got to do that by himself.

    Osiris was the Egyptian precursor of Christ. He was attacked and murdered by his evil twin Typhon who chopped his body up and sent the pieces all over Egypt as a warning to the people that Typhon was now king. but everywhere a piece of Osiris was buried a garden grew and so Isis, Osiris's wife, the feminine divine went and gathered the pieces and put them together and brought them back to life long enough to get pregnant with their son Horus who grew up in secret and killed Typhon.

    • @sekhmet_eyeofra888
      @sekhmet_eyeofra888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Osiris's brother was named Set or Seth... I've never heard this name Typhon... Though Osiris is the Greek version of the name, in ancient egypt he was called Ausar and Isis was called Auset... Also, they weren't twins and Set wasn't evil. If you look deeper into the story, Osiris was sleeping with Set's wife... Can't really call someone evil for getting mad at that, lol...
