@Pierce Murphy I think a lot of people have issues with not letting their trauma/negative tries become their entire personality tbh. It should be possible to accept yourself while still allowing room for change and I think we've finally gotten the 'accept yourself' part but... many are still working on the 'and allow room for change' imo
We like in a world of chaos. It has never been so dire to preserve who we are. Nobody wants to be offended, yet expect answers. An existential oximoron
Man, I saw Hozier live a few days ago. His voice is even more heavenly in life than on audio (if that's even possible). I can't describe the intensity of his voice in his concerts. He is absolutely incredible
Why do I see people complaining about this song being used by TWD and getting popularity through it? As fans of whatever band whose songs are being played in movies, series or whatever, you should be happy that the incredible music you've found somehow, is now reaching new ears and making new fans. You should be proud that the band you like is getting known. Because it can be in a show but that doesn't mean people will like it. If they are here it's because they heard it and they LIKED it. Discovering a band through a show doesn't make your taste in music weak. Complaining about people who does that DOES make you stupid. No offense pretended, just making a point. And by the way, this song was also played in The Originals (2x05).
+Katerina Petrova I just watched the new episode and they used the song, but sped up the tempo. Pretty dumb, in my opinion. That's my problem with it. Totally ruins the ominous vibe of the song.
Regardless of how people got here, it's evident that just hearing a part of the song in a show can bring people here because the voice, the melody and the lyrics are powerful. Can I get a freaking Amen????
I honestly just came here for Hozier, but I love this song so much. I struggle with several things, anxiety, depression, paranoia, intrusive thoughts, violent and destructive thoughts, I've dealt with these since I was five years old. I always repressed these thoughts and pretended they didn't exist, until they got to a point where I couldn't shut them up anymore and started to act on some, but nothing too violent thankfully. It's taken a lot of time, patience, and struggling, but I've finally gotten to a point where they don't hurt me near as much as they used to. This song perfectly describes the balance I needed to find with my thoughts, impulses, and emotions, in general they aren't healthy and I shouldn't always act or dwell on them, but they're a part of me that I can't just pretend doesn't exist. I can't lock them away completely, just keep them on a leash. A bit of chaos and caution is fine, healthy even and keeps life from being boring, just like how fire when properly handled can cook your food and warm you up, but if you're careless and let it get out of control it will burn everything to ashes. That's what this song means to me, it compares emotions to fire, the destructive thoughts, desires, and impulses of a person are like fire is to an arsonist. It's fine to have a fascination with it and you shouldn't lock away that part of you, but you can't let it get too out of control or it will bring nothing but pain and ruin. That's something I need a reminder of sometimes.
Yeah now I've been in grippy sock jail twice for wanting to set fire to this abandoned wood house near mine, just so I can watch the flames spread to the rest of town and dance in the still smoldering ashes. Also I discovered I have bipolar depression, cptsd, and my pyromania stems from a lack of control and power over my own life. Now that I've realized it my temptation to set something on fire is extremely difficult to reign in when I'm stressed, anxious, or manic.
Take Me to Church was the song that first got me interested in Hozier, but then I go deeper and it's even better! My new favorite artist, this is amazing.
I believe the chorus is telling us that, a fire is an arsonists love, and similarly, all we have in life, whether by perspective or physical possesion, is what we hold most dear, and thats really all that gets us through life.
I'd say that this refers to being broken. for me, when I am drowned with grief and rage at death and many other things the only thing I can hold on to is hatred aka A fire and my goals in life IE the place I need to reach. just my thoughts tho
For me it’s a sence if rebellion we have a teens and kids that kinda fizzles as you get older but if you grow up to still have fiery passion you are in control of you demons so they are on a leash so all you have is your fire and don’t try to tame it
When I listened to the lyrics of this song it made me think of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. As someone with schizo-affective disorder this song speaks to me so deeply and makes me feel like I'm not alone in my struggles. Thanks Hozier.
When I was a man I thought it ended. When I knew loves perfect ache. But my peace has always depended on all the ashes in my wake....beautiful words indeed.
I can hear only his humming for hours And if he was singing the words on the Rhythm that he was humming honestly I think it would better while i still appreciate it a lot
That song has me thinking...Do we all have a predisposition...a tendency of sorts to become arsonists? i mean, i am sure we can all remember ourselves at some point in our lives, be it younger or older, sitting in front of a fireplace, of a campfire, and being captivated, even hypnotised by the flames. Is it some sort of game our minds play, or is it merely some kind of instict left by our ancestors who lived in caves and first discovered fire and seemed so new and divine to them? In our everyday lives we all know and understand how useful or destructive fire can be. Yet sometimes we find ourselves being in awe in front of it
OMFG, I JUST LITERALLY TOLD MY PSYCH THIS!! I am diagnosed with the actual disorder Pyromania, and none of the mental health staff, including the Psych, knows what to do with me or how to help me because of this exact thing. They don't see that I don't set fires anywhere near people or animals though. Le sigh. THANK YOU SO MUCH for saying this. :)
You dont have to, thats why fire needs control and be in safe evironment. Find safe ways to get that out i guess on regular basis.?! Maybe, no else idea.
Keep in mind, there is a difference between pyromania and arson. The first is a condition, a state of mind, the second is a crime. There are many people with pyromania who never commit arson. And there are arsonists who are not pyromaniacs. Sometimes the two go together but often they don't. All to often people conflate the two. That is why I point out that there is a difference.

"Dont you ever tame your demons, but always keep them on a leash." This describes Rick beyond perfect. As a man who has been fundamentally broken and tortured by loss, yet keeps coming back. Still being a good person.
When I was a young kid I always thought of myself as a candle. I felt smothered, dimmed, couldn't breathe (no oxygen), full of spite and rage, uncontrollable. As I grew, I learned to love my analogy of fire. I have a burning passion for life and no one will never put this fire out
[Humming] [Verse 1] When I was a child, I heard voices Some would sing and some would scream You soon find you have few choices I learned the voices died with me When I was a child, I'd sit for hours Staring into open flame Something in it had a power Could barely tear my eyes away [Hook] All you have is your fire And the place you need to reach Don't you ever tame your demons But always keep them on a leash [Humming] [Verse 2] When I was sixteen, my senses fooled me Thought gasoline was on my clothes I knew that something would always rule me I knew this scent was mine alone [Hook] All you have is your fire And the place you need to reach Don't you ever tame your demons Always keep them on a leash [Bridge] When I was a man, I thought it ended When I knew love's perfect ache But my peace has always depended On all the ashes in my wake [Outro] All you have is your fire And the place you need to reach Don't you ever tame your demons But always keep them on a leash
Monarca brought me here. I couldn't think of another than hozier singing this while watching the series. Recognizable voice and maddening deep lyrics. Amen
Me too. I've been diagnosed since 2020 (they have it as Impulse Control Disorder, but the specific disorder is Pyromania). Do you have a diagnosis or are you just saying you have it because you like fire? There is a difference, and having the actual disorder...SUCKS ASS sometimes. It is so much more than just setting fires and saying "OOH I'm so pyro!" like those dumbfuck kids on TH-cam. It hurts...it feels good...and it is a battle to keep yourself in check so you don't do something REALLY dumb and get yourself arrested. Er...yeah. Too late on that one. :(
True true. But surprise surprise. I'm a christian. But I am not offended by any of his songs. They're simple human things that I-or anyone else-have no right to judge
There are no words to explain how much I love this man, his voice, his music, his poetry, his passion, his depth, his intelligence, his beauty. His music is so perfect and I'm utterly in love with it.
I’m not arguing with an idiot. “Twenty people were eventually executed as witches, but contrary to popular belief, none of the condemned was burned at the stake. In accordance with English law, 19 of the victims of the Salem Witch Trials were instead taken to the infamous Gallows Hill to die by hanging. The elderly Giles Corey, meanwhile, was pressed to death with heavy stones after he refused to enter an innocent or guilty plea. Still more accused sorcerers died in jail while awaiting trial.” Do your research kiddo. Also I’m an atheist so it’s not “my church”.
@@GentleShivers You sound pretentious and rude, if you are as smart as you'd like this comment to suggest, then you could just educate rather than berate.

Chauncey its nothing to do with the song in particular fool, its to do with the fact that he heard this and decided that, in his opinion, he thought a collab would be a good idea for this group to pursue
That is irrelevant, you do not need to be from the same genre to do a collab, lizzy hale and lindsey stirling (forgive me if i misspelled those names) did a collab and one is a rock vocalist the other is a dubstep violinist
I'm from Greece, it's 03:37. 3 hours since we found out that my grandma's house was consumed by the fire. Same for my aunt's house next to her and my uncle's house across the street. People fleeing to the sea, many lost their lives there trying to save themselves. We have missing relatives who might have been taken by the fire, we haven't heard from them in the last 15 hours. And I'm listening to this song. People lost their houses, their memories, their friends and their relatives. Too much to take in at once. And still, I've been listening to this song on repeat. It's haunting just like what is happening at the moment.
I don't even know from where i heard this song first, i just remember listening to this song while working in a cold basement. I'm glad this memory went through my mind i feel like i just found an old friend
I love Hozier, but I heard this gem from The Resident and I'm not going to tell anyone that they're not a true fan. You only become a true fan once you hear the beautiful music. How you get here is not an issue. The fact that you got here is the blessing. Just saying.
If any of you guys are Critical Role fans, this song is absolute perfection for Caleb in every way possible and I love it. If you haven’t seen Critical Role I highly recommend it if you’re into role playing, it’s fantastic!
shit, this is absolutely PERFECT for the emotional disaster of a man that liam has presented to us. "I knew the sin was mine alone," "My peace has always depended/ On the ashes in my wake." those just *scream* widogast.

when i was a child id sit for hours
staring into open flames
something in it had a power
could barely tear my eyes away
all you have is your fire
and the place you need reach
dont you ever, tame your demons
but always keep them on a leash
when i was sixteen my senses fooled me
thought gasoline was on my clothes
i knew that something would always rule me
i knew that sin was mine alone
all you have is your fire
and the place you need to reach
dont you ever, tame your demons

when i was a man i thought it ended
when i knew love's perfect ache
but my pieces always depended
on all the ashes in my way
all you have is your fire

I absolutely had no idea that this song was for The Walking Dead, I only started listening to it because it was a good song was all.
same I found it on Spotify
just putting this out there it was on Teen Wolf first. not trying to be hipster or anything.
+Josh Gilbert what season
Season 4 episode 12
Oh guys check it out we've got a special little snowflake here. Fuck off, it doesn't matter.
This makes me want to gather the boys for a real Area 51 raid next year

We're ready
Please do it
Well that didn't go too well now did it
@@Saetanko Haha, CLAP THE CHEEKS!

I so agree with u
Isabelle Isa just being the same!
Yea soo true

+Jennie Hughes hahaha that crack me up, thanks for the tip
I still don't understand how this was never used in Lucifer or peaky blinders. I think it would be very fitting for the main characters.
Hell yes it should have been in Peaky Blinders
"Dont you ever tame your demons, but always keep them on a leash." This describes Rick beyond perfect. As a man who has been fundamentally broken and tortured by loss, yet keeps coming back. Still being a good person.
Chris Andreev its a fucking cartoon
Oh wait nvm i thought you were talking about rick and morty

When I was a young kid I always thought of myself as a candle. I felt smothered, dimmed, couldn't breathe (no oxygen), full of spite and rage, uncontrollable. As I grew, I learned to love my analogy of fire. I have a burning passion for life and no one will never put this fire out
Frankie always post bad ass music for his Dayz mod vids

Frankie :)
Fuck yeah dude "The Horde" awesome vid.
+Robert Rogers FRANKIE!

It's final, I have fallen in love with Hozier's voice. Such a gorgeous man.
This song sounds so badass.
“Your an arsonist?”
*Laughs*
“You heard of the lullaby?”
I was diagnosed with OCD because of fire setting, this song makes me not feel alone. ROCK ON 🤘
This would make a great theme to a Fahrenheit 451 movie.
I was just thinking that lol.
They should totally make another movie of Fahrenheit 451...
Omg yes
I was thinking on the Take me to church vid that Kurt Vonnegut would be an awesome basis for a church. Take me!!
hey this is 3 yrs old but...the new movie of f451 was kinda. Bad. but if they used this that would’ve been cool

What's the point of putting lyrics in the comments when it's literally a lyrics video?
@@dynamogaming2039 structure, love.
@@shotbywyn the video already has structure. Putting lyrics in the comments on a lyrical video is counter intuitive
@@dynamogaming2039 so we can easily see the next lyric that isn’t in the video screen. and also some ppl just prefer reading comments lmao
@@mash9415 it's pointless. It's a lyric video. Putting the lyrics in the comments in a lyric video is dumb
This song tears out my heart and makes me simultaneously more powerful.
I'm glad The Originals introduced me to this song!
I like this better than Take me to Church honestly.
I like all of his other songs better than "Take Me To Church"
+Sean Elliot me 2
I like Take Me to Church but I love his other songs so much more.
Me too
I agree.
"You really think you're gonna take this community from us? From Daryl, from Michonne, from Glenn, from ME?!"
Reading this while listening to this song gave me goosebumps.
and then:
"Do you have any idea who you talking to ?!"
MaRameN123 "You better get out of here before you find out how dangerous we are"
***** Definitely my favourite part of the trailer! :D
From MAAYY!!! Lol!
Monarca brought me here. I couldn't think of another than hozier singing this while watching the series. Recognizable voice and maddening deep lyrics. Amen
"...My peace has always depended
On the ashes in my wake..."
Whoaa
krulboon Hozier is Doomguy
This makes me demand another fahrenheit 451 movie be made this instant, because of this song.
Hell yes! The book was still so much better. Love ray bradbury!

You and me both man

As a pyromaniac, I loved this.
@@MamaToFiveburn the prison, now
What is that? Pyromantic?
@CROW a person who has an uncontrollable impulse to start fires
Everyone's talking about how they found this song.
I just really like Hoziers voice and keep pretty updated with his music XD
lmao XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD
Right?
I was like Oh, that's a pretty song. And then I watched the Walking Dead that night. and I was like OHHHHHHH! I literally freaked out.
If it were Take me to Church, the comment section would be full of offended Christians.
True true.
But surprise surprise. I'm a christian. But I am not offended by any of his songs. They're simple human things that I-or anyone else-have no right to judge
Penny The rat I'm glad. I respect the ones of you that can enjoy life without filtering it through an old book.

There are no words to explain how much I love this man, his voice, his music, his poetry, his passion, his depth, his intelligence, his beauty. His music is so perfect and I'm utterly in love with it.

Nobody was ever burned at the Salem witch trials. It’s simply a myth.
I'm literally playing it right now. Also, Art Boi, the burnings are not a myth at all. They happened. Your "glorious" church burned all these women.
The Leftovers and Teen Wolf didn't bring me here. My awesome taste of music brought me here.
And if we're talking about shows, this song would be much better for a The Walking Dead kind of series and not for Teen Wolf. It sounds amazing but I don't get it how the lyrics came to the situation.
Júlia Hompola good thing you didn't get to pick. because you're stupid.
Tyler Durden Maybe I am but at least I exist.
Tyler Durden That joke stopped being funny in 2001. Get off the internet kid, education is this way --->

Came here from the walking dead ❤️ hozier you have the most beautiful voice. I'll be listening to this for days.
The most interesting comment section for a song that I've seen in a while. Keep telling your story, my unique friend, and I guarantee you, we'll stick around and read it all!
Man The Walking Dead crew chooses the best songs :P
I still think Brennisteinn - Sigur Ros was their best choice, that first Season 5 trailer was bloody brilliant
+Brandon Donnelly I loved Season 3's Black by Karri Kimmel.
Agreed when they used oats in the water for season 4 it was perfect they always do a great job of putting in atmospheric music.
+Emerald Alien The Last Pale Light In the West and Blackbird Song were both excellent selections as well.
+Brandon Donnelly yes! Serpents was also a great song for the season 4 trailer
I would love to hear a collaboration with Tracy Chapman and Adele. All such talented artists.
neither of those artists have anything to do with this song
I Heart, tell me how Tracy Chapman and Adele have anything to do with this song and I will admit I was wrong
Chauncey its nothing to do with the song in particular fool, its to do with the fact that he heard this and decided that, in his opinion, he thought a collab would be a good idea for this group to pursue
Alex Gray-Karcsak that doesnt clear up that neither of the artists that he mentioned have anything to do with hozier
That is irrelevant, you do not need to be from the same genre to do a collab, lizzy hale and lindsey stirling (forgive me if i misspelled those names) did a collab and one is a rock vocalist the other is a dubstep violinist
alright Zuko calm down
Lmao exactly why I'm here
hA
Thats rough buddy
Lmao
I was looking for this comment.
I'm so sorry about what's happening in your country. Are all your friends and relatives okay?
Hozier's amazing talent brought me here.
Just saying.
let’s just take a moment and appreciate the lyrical beauty of every song Hozier puts out
