@@kevinp9110 It's very tied to a myth involving Isis and her husband while being very much about ideals. I would interpret it as a short term relationship that ended abruptly. Was my comment that serious? Nobody cares if you believe in God or not that's your problem. Don't try to minister, convert, or pressure people with your beliefs IF NOBODY ASKED YOU.

Seems this comment section is no longer active. I come back and listen to this song very often, like every day. This was my older sisters favorite song. She had a long term boyfriend and wanted to settle down and get married and have kids and stay a house wife. She was telling me this while visiting. She played this song and told me it was her favorite, and how she wanted to name her kids Jackie & Wilson. She left back to her home town. We talked on the phone a few times after that. She passed away a few months later. I miss her, so much. I think about her everyday. It’s been nearly two years now and I still listen to this song and think about that last car ride we had together.
Paula Clarke exactly. I could spend 100000000% of my time in the hozier first play radio on the music app, and nevvverrrr get tired of the songs. I just love his style.
God, this is almost better than the album version, how can somebody sing so perfectly? His voice is so powerful and pure. The more I watch his live performances, the more I realise what magic is.
It is. This is the song that I always try to listen to after a love disappointment, since it was released. No request to return, no regrets. A desperate hope that the next one will be perfect, just as I believed the last one would be.
I saw this guy a year ago today at music midtown. I knew who he was but never saw him live. Long story short I have never seen such a talented person/musician ever. His voice is even better live too. This is coming from a hip hop / edm fan

One of the best tunes out there today. My kind of old school style of writing, singing, background vocals and blues chord changes. You nailed it Hozier. Love this tune and I love Jackie Wilson.
Saw him in Seattle last night. OH MY GOD he's wonderful! Still playing the little venues because the gigs were made before everyone discovered how absolutely fantastic he, the songs, the band, everyone is. He's coming back to much bigger venues in spring. Drop EVERYTHING and go!
Live version...1000000000000000000000x's better than a studio version... No other artist out there right now sounds better live than studio...This man has so much talent..
This man is a gift and so very rare. He's has the most beautiful singing and song writing talent where he can turn any message into an interesting song, comes across as a lovely man in all his interviews and is also really gorgeous
ndakotagurl i feel like with other songs called cherry wine and his cover of sweet thing this could be as much a reference to van morrison as jackie wilson ha though i dont know the guy. the chord progression is the same as a riff from the van morrison song astral weeks too. and like real people do could be a reference to like young lovers do. i dont know im im just seeing too many coincidences or real references.
josh gainsboro I can see what you're saying, but if you Google 'Hozier Jackie Wilson' you'll come across an interview where speaking of Jackie Wilson, Hozier says "He's a big influence for me, he's fantastic. I think Elvis was the white Jackie Wilson, rather than any other way 'round." He doesn't touch on any Van Morrison references, not to say they're not there, but he specifically talks about Jackie Wilson...
ndakotagurl ha yeah i get you. i do think the sweet thing cover is a reference though. Either he likes the song off the best hits of van or he likes the album astral weeks. if he does like that album he would definitely atleast retrospectively see that like real people do is a very similar title to a song on that album and cherry wine is quite a salient image in that album and that this riff is pretty much the same chords as in sweet thing which you could see in his cover around 1:30. especially as all those references are from the same album. i also think as a young soulful irish singer theres probably a good reason to not mention van morrison much in the media. could be just happy coincidence though.
Whenever someone asks me what's my happy place, I say this god like of a human being who has the voice of an angel. This is where I'm in my own world and listening to most soulful music in the world 😊

I love him because his songs actually have meaning- unlike the cheesy pop music these days. It really sucks how many artists don't focus on the lyrics in music and actually being able to preform the song- if it weren't for Hozier I would have lost my faith in all humanity.
I love this song. The first time I heard this was 2014 at my first job and I looked everywhere to find it like a year later typing in the the only words I knew which were “ raise them on rhythm and blues.” I found it & it gets played more then often . Thank you for filling my soul with this song.
his voice is so pure. he hot every note, was not flat once, and he makes his phrases flow so effortlessly. He feels his music and thats what i like to see in an artist.
People quit saying he's the male version of female artists. He is not a male version of anyone! Honestly, just listen and enjoy and let it flow through your veins, cause music like this is not made anymore. Music like this is so rare. So quit quibbling and comparing him to others. There are no others like him.
Good god this man has talent. I heard take me to church and loved it so bought the album. I cant remember the last time I literally loved every single song. Such depth, soul and honesty. I couldn't adore him any more :)

Was my comment that serious? Nobody cares if you believe in God or not that's your problem. Don't try to minister, convert, or pressure people with your beliefs IF NOBODY ASKED YOU.
***** I BELIEVE GOD exist, that is all the proof I need. God created Man, he created woman from a mans rib, Jesus was put on this earth by Mary giving birth. It was a statement, take it how you may. Yours was a statement & I can accept that if that if your belief. We don't see the air we breathe, but we take a breath of oxygen to survive.
Who cares if god exists? Live in the moment brothers and sisters, and make love not war
It feels like music already in his blood and his body so he doesn't need to shout it out loud and he even doesn't need to sing. When he opens his mouth, the wonderful songs are coming out by themselves. What an amazing musician.
He could tell me the sun is purple....I would believe him.
the sun is green. for real. human eyes just suck at seeing green, plus the doppler effect. there, your random, unwanted science fact for the day.
@@kaamn1829 damn thanks
@@kaamn1829 wait what wait are you for real
@@khloeg1649 yup, not only can we not see it that well, but because of the universe is expanding, so the sun is constantly zooming away (tugging us along with it) so fast that it appears yellow to everything else because of the previously mentioned Doppler effect, ehich is what makes sounds distorted and slower when heard from a distance/fast moving object. Wicked, huh?
@@kaamn1829 yeah I knew about the doppler effect of light and stuff but I didn't know the sun was GREEN
Hozier's music makes me so happy. I love a lot of music, but his stuff just hits my soul.
same
He looks like Jesus with vocals like heaven.
✌
Pinkie Amitypie He looks like a western interpretation of Jesus, in reality Jesus was from the middle east, so more than likely than not that he looked more like our modern day terrorist, something that not many people think about, anyway I digress, nice song.
dhshaun22 Lmao mate your comment made my day.
Thomas Christopher White Brighten up mate, its a joke
dhshaun22 You suck at joking.
I think he remembered something important at minute 1:00
Lol
probably didn't put his laundry in the dryer.
+Pornkamol Srichannon 😂
Lol
+Rocio Alvarez hahhahahahah so funny
i wish more people knew about this song, but i also dont want anyone to know.
Kyle DeMarche YOU TRANSLATED MY FEELINGS INTO WORDS.
Kyle DeMarche SAME!!
Shit this is what's happens to me whenever I hear some good music that connects with me ...there is a very thin line between introvert and extrovert I think so 😂
RIGHT? omg.
This applies not only to the song, but to Hozier in general.
It cracks me up every time when he temporarily forgot he's also a singer.
+Ariel Riley Hahah ikr when he just lurches toward the microphone
he was probably thinking "hmm did i turn the tv off? OH SHIT I GOTTA SING"
Minute?
very beginning before he sings for the very first time
Ariel Riley Now I see, haha, thanks.
A song any "hopeless romantic" can dig straight from the soul.
he even has beautiful eyelashes
I never noticed until now but he DOES
i've lost count of how many times i've listened to this...
weasleysrp So far 78 plays on iTunes, and numerous replays on sirius radio, plus I'm not sure how many plays here, on youtube...
Love his husky vocals and bluesy guitar licks:
"She's gonna save me, call me baby,
run her hands through my hair,
She'll know me crazy, soothe me daily,
actually she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus, be detective's ride
around picking up clues
We'll name our children Jackie and
Wilson, raise 'em on rhythm and blues......"
Smiles, hi Lorraine 🌺 😊
This music speaks to my soul.
Mark Jernigan I think pretty much everyone can say the same
Seems this comment section is no longer active.
❤❤❤❤❤
He doesn't even try, he's so amazing and his talent comes naturally.
Hozier, I love you. Why is every song so good?
He just can't seem to write a bad song.
Paula Clarke exactly. I could spend 100000000% of my time in the hozier first play radio on the music app, and nevvverrrr get tired of the songs. I just love his style.
Because he's an angel. They don't have to go through it to sing about it.
He snuck a peek and the big mans plan... this is the outcome.
Because he's so good :)
The way he pulls those high notes and not even flinching. This man is unbelievable
God, this is almost better than the album version, how can somebody sing so perfectly? His voice is so powerful and pure. The more I watch his live performances, the more I realise what magic is.
He's got hands like that and they're not holding mine and that's one of life's greatest tragedies
I am obsessed with his hands
I was going to try to sing along to this, but then I was like why would I even try? he's an angel?
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I LIKE BETTER, HIS SONGS, OR HIS HAIR. THIS GUY HAS IT ALL.
It is. This is the song that I always try to listen to after a love disappointment, since it was released. No request to return, no regrets. A desperate hope that the next one will be perfect, just as I believed the last one would be.
Hello there Julia nice meeting you here
I'm love with Hozier...
I seriously am...
I saw this guy a year ago today at music midtown. I knew who he was but never saw him live. Long story short I have never seen such a talented person/musician ever. His voice is even better live too. This is coming from a hip hop / edm fan
Was listening to this without watching the video and straight up thought it was the album, not a live performance. THAT'S HOW GOOD HOZIER IS.
Andy Byrne for president... of music... or anything... just give this man a presidency.
Fake and gay
Dean Mc Creary one of the few occasions where this type of invective is warranted.
Dean Mc Creary For president!
Now there's something I can't disagree with it ;)
This man is musical Shakespeare and I love him so much.
Gosh I think I fell in love ... His voice, his lyrics, the melody...everything down to his beautiful long hair is perfection
I thougth the same!
He's pretty amazing. I can't remember the last time I listened to an artist that I immediately liked.
😀
sssploosh
i love this man with my whole being. literally his music has been with me through some of my darkest times, seeing me through to the other side. i’ll never be able to repay him for the light his music has brought back to my soul
1:22 I like how that guy's just nom-nomin' on his hair!! XD
Yes Hozier, I'm fine with naming our children Jackie and Wilson, as long as they have your hair. 😂
jonesha wallace HAHAHA
Oh no I accidentally disliked your comment!! Im so sorry! I was just trying to like it! If you got a notification IM SORRY! forgive me 😢
The way he pronounces "blues" is divine
They deserve the best awards for composing such amazing songs. Grammys, where you at?
He's beautiful
saw this live yesterday and it was just as magical as one would expected
Oh men! Seriously he's a truly artist, his voice is so AMAZING, he's so talented. His music is from heaven. Can't get enough of him.
i love his voice ...... dreamy!!
He is DREAMY!!... ugh, I think I'm in love with his... everything, lol
oH My GOSH!! YESS!!
hes so fucking hot
I’m listening to this in SAT prep because one of the passages had the phrase “rhythm and blues” and this song got stuck in my head.
Ive had the rhythm and blues line stuck in my head for 4 years and have been unable to find this song until this very morning. It's a good one, and I'm so glad I was able to find the origin of that line
So tired trying to see from behind the red in my eyes,
No better version of me I could pretend to be tonight.
So deep in this swill with the most familiar of swine
For reasons wretched and divine.
She blows outta nowhere, roman candle of the wild
Laughing away through my feeble disguise
No other version of me I would rather be tonight.
And, Lord, she found me just in time
'Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done
I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young
She's gonna save me,
Call me "baby"
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy,
Soothe me daily
Better yet she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus,
Be detectives,
Ride 'round picking up clues
We'll name our children
Jackie and Wilson,
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues.
Lord, it'd be great to find a place we could escape sometime
Me and my Isis growing black irises in the sunshine
Every version of me dead and buried in the yard outside.
Sit back and watch the world go by.
Happy to lie back watch it burn and rust
We tried the world, good God, it wasn't for us.
She's gonna save me,
Call me "baby"
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy,
Soothe me daily
Better yet she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus,
Be detectives,
Ride 'round picking up clues
We'll name our children
Jackie and Wilson,
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues.
Cut clean from the dream at night let my mind reset
Looking up from a cigarette, and she's already left
I start digging up the yard for what's left of me and our little vignette
For whatever poor soul is coming next
+george burns Ur awesome
One of the best tunes out there today. My kind of old school style of writing, singing, background vocals and blues chord changes. You nailed it Hozier. Love this tune and I love Jackie Wilson.
Smiles, hi Marge 🌺😊
hozier is love hozier is life
Fell in love to this song. Then lost her. The blues is something you can't teach. You live it, or you don't.
Am I the only one who can listen to the part around 1:55 where he sings "happy to liiiieee back, watch it burn and rust" 100x and not get tired of it?
I can listen to the entire song 100x and not get tired of it lol
I can't get enough of Hozier!Andrew's voice is just beautiful.
How dare I forget about this song?! New favourite song that used to be my old favourite song.
😅
"'Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done
I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young"
Story of my life.
one of the most underrated talents out there
This man is a gift and so very rare. He's has the most beautiful singing and song writing talent where he can turn any message into an interesting song, comes across as a lovely man in all his interviews and is also really gorgeous
Definitely naming my kids Jackie and Wilson.
And i'll raise them on rhythm and blues
Are you naming them Jackie and Wilson because you like this song or because you like the man, Jackie Wilson, that this song was written for?...
ndakotagurl i feel like with other songs called cherry wine and his cover of sweet thing this could be as much a reference to van morrison as jackie wilson ha though i dont know the guy. the chord progression is the same as a riff from the van morrison song astral weeks too. and like real people do could be a reference to like young lovers do. i dont know im im just seeing too many coincidences or real references.
josh gainsboro I can see what you're saying, but if you Google 'Hozier Jackie Wilson' you'll come across an interview where speaking of Jackie Wilson, Hozier says "He's a big influence for me, he's fantastic.
This is where I'm in my own world and listening to most soulful music in the world 😊
He's just so beautiful all of him. I really love his hands and his eyes ! I hope he realizes that he is beautiful !
Started listening to Hozier recently, a chick on instagram.. lead me to hozier. happy i am because his music it's calm. ❤

He sounds even better live than he does on his album. Raw talent, through and through.
he's so attractive god
0:15 WTF?! Oh! The song! The song!
This song is SOOOOOO underrated... 😍😍😍😍😍😍
“We tried the world, good God, it wasn’t for us”❤️
his voice is so pure. he hot every note, was not flat once, and he makes his phrases flow so effortlessly. He feels his music and thats what i like to see in an artist.
His voice is beautiful, completely unlike any other I've ever heard in my life.
People quit saying he's the male version of female artists. He is not a male version of anyone! Honestly, just listen and enjoy and let it flow through your veins, cause music like this is not made anymore. Music like this is so rare. So quit quibbling and comparing him to others. There are no others like him.
You can feel the irishness radiating from him
Good god this man has talent. I heard take me to church and loved it so bought the album. I cant remember the last time I literally loved every single song. Such depth, soul and honesty. I couldn't adore him any more :)
My favorite DJ named Mark; this is his favorite Hozier song.
Still my favourite, out of an unbelievable number of magnificent songs. Volume to max. 'We'll name our children Jackie and Wilson and raise them on rhythm and blues'.
