Henning May could be a world wide super star if there was a record label who's brave enough to introduce a band with mostly German lyrics to the international markets. Entering the USA market worked well for Rammstein. There is no reason it wouldn't work for AnnenMayKantereit too. For non German speakers, translating AMK lyrics is worth the effort. They usually are deep.
They dont want to be super-stars though. They themselves blocked that because they would much rather make music for themselves than for a label. Which is why they publish under their own label. A lot of german bands actually do that to keep complete control over their songs and rights, by now its customary to jump ship with the big labels as soon as you see success coming if you love what you do more than the money it brings you.

The musicians have been in the business for a very long time and have had music training since early childhood. The music, as well as the lyrics, are sometimes a bit quirky, but on the other hand, incredibly professionally realised. As a result, KNORKATOR can easily be consumed as METAL on the one hand, but those who want to delve deeper will be offered much more. (Btw., there is even a song in Thai with "Mai khao djai, Khid tyng baan".) I would recommend the last Album (2023) "SIEG DER VERNUNFT" as an introduction. The album is unusually critical of society. The songs "SIEG DER VERNUNFT" and "TUT UNS LEID" are typical examples of this LP, and it's definitely worth having a look at the lyrics. 🙂the singer from AnnenMayKantereit is much admired for his voice. As far as I know, he was 19 years old when he came to public attention with the song: Barefoot at the Piano. Most of the songs the band plays are composed by the singer. They very rarely cover songs. I personally think the song: Orangenlied and the song: lass kreisen are his best.

I would suggest some "older" german artitst who are around for decades and still in the charts with their new albums! Like bands who had their first chart hit in the 70s/80s, but still releasing chart hits in 2020+.

😎I would highly recommend KNORKATOR - if you like that kind of music? It's kind of METAL, but many fans just call it the KNORKATOR style. The musicians have been in the business for a very long time and have had music training since early childhood.
The music, as well as the lyrics, are sometimes a bit quirky, but on the other hand, incredibly professionally realised. As a result, KNORKATOR can easily be consumed as METAL on the one hand, but those who want to delve deeper will be offered much more. (Btw., there is even a song in Thai with "Mai khao djai, Khid tyng baan".)
I would recommend the last Album (2023) "SIEG DER VERNUNFT" as an introduction. The album is unusually critical of society. The songs "SIEG DER VERNUNFT" and "TUT UNS LEID" are typical examples of this LP, and it's definitely worth having a look at the lyrics. I can recommend a German hip-hop group, called K.I.Z.
Three rappers from Berlin who, are characterized by their socially critical messages. They do this with humor, irony and sarcasm and often rap from the perspective of the people whose values and actions they criticize, such as sexists, racists or misanthropes.
K.I.Z made a song together with the singer from AnnenMayKantereit.
The song "Hurra die Welt geht unter" (English translation: hurray the world is coming to an end ) is about the end of the world from a positive perspective. According to the motto, if the world ends, there is at least the advantage that we can no longer harm each other.

This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice, May pronounced like "my") is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well.
