Gotta love Donna's ability to figure out a shortcut, timesaver technique; and in this case, I think it makes a more secure point on the Dresden blade. That fabric with the metallic highlights just makes this project luscious.

For years I've had Quilting Shoppe's and have taught children and adults how to sew. Quilting classes were my love, taught myself from books from the library,
(before computers). Joined a quilting guild and my thrist for knowledge grew! My health has declined, cancer and COPD does that. Your video's being back so much knowledge I thought I would never get back. Thank you for doing that for me!

I'm loving this fabric/pattern! One tip for the centers if you want an easy turned edge - I use 1 sided fusible light to midweight interfacing - mark your circle on the wrong side of your fabric, and with the fusible side towards the right side of the fabric sew on your line. Then cut a slit in the fusible and turn your circle right side out - clipping or pinking the edges first. Run a bone folder around the edge and finger press. Now your fusible in on the outside, fuse to your backing and your edges are turned under! Sew around as you did.
Thank you for the great tip on sewing both edges of the wedge at once - that will go into my bag of tricks!

After watching your tutorial 1 million times & getting a template - I made the center Dresden plate & two half plates (I only had 1 jelly roll on hand to work with). Mine look so much smaller than yours & I had to add more sections to mine than you did. I am a baby quilter & this is my first attempt at something that wasn't SQUARE! LOL I had a great time doing it & am going to make another one tomorrow.

How much bigger do you want it to be? You can always add a larger--or another--border. Ilike rectangle quilts most times. I usually Dd another border to the top and bottom. On this auilt you might make the center square just bit bigger. Then p,ace the outside Dresdens a little bit further away from the square. I hope this helped bit!

I have so many WIP's going right now - adding this one for sure. Ordering the pattern today. Plus having to find time to piece is getting to be slim to none while having to baby sit our great grand-daughter. Your innovative process for making the points of the Dresden was inspiring to say the least. I never finished one I started years ago. Thank you for all you, Matt, and your company do - I look for your e-mail first everyday when I get up.

Hello, Thank you for this amazing tutoriol!. I have been watching several of your videos and I have to comment on how you present them.
I am 76 years old and just starting to quilt. I love to sew. Your voice is so calm and you speak clearly and teach in an understanding way for my old ears. I like your sewing table and pin cushion wristband too.
The pattern is one of my favorites and been searching an easy way to make. now I have and will use it to make this lovely quilt.
    Thank you so much,
    Gail L.

My favorite of all patterns is the Dresden plate. I recently made a black and while bed spread for my queen size bed. I love it so much. I have a ton of extra fabric for that pattern that I know I can make something similar to the one your showing. Of course you make it seem so easy, but your the expert. thank you.

This Dresden quilt is amazingly beautiful. When I was a child, my mother had picked up some partial Quilts in a second hand store. That was probably 55 years or more ago. All the tiny pieces to a couple of those quilts was really something. And whoever started them?? Because it was all hand stitched. One was little octagon and one was the Dresden pattern. They were absolutely gorgeous. I think one of my sisters got them when our mother passed on. But watching this video today brought back the memories of sitting around the dinning room table with family and all those Quilts and their beautiful pieces. Thank you. You are a very clever and smart gal. I loved the way you simplified the pattern directions. You're a joy to watch

Wow, this quilt is so lush, I am mesmerized by the beautiful "gilded" fabrics used I love that centre Dresden how you made each blade from 2 different fabrics is a fabulous idea which I have never seen before. I have only attempted a Dresden twice and both times the project was left unfinished because I just could not get it to lay flat. thanks for making this tutorial I really enjoyed watching it.

Another option for marking your Dresden ruler, or any ruler for that matter, is to place a piece of Invisigrip on the back. Use a sharpie marker or pen to mark the lines with a straight edge. If you don't have Invisigrip handy, then a clear strip of tape - Scotch tape - can also work. It leaves the ruler clear so you can line up the seam lines for other projects without having to remove the tape. The Invisigrip product has the added benefit of helping to prevent ruler slippage. Beautiful quilt. Your tutorials are ALWAYS a joy to watch. Enough information to be thorough, but not TOO drawn out. I also like how you go through the process of selecting quilting patterns and thread colors. Stay healthy everyone. and Happy Quilting.

I made this quilt. The hardest part for me was finding all the material that Donna used in the video as I wanted to make it exactly like it. the main blocks were made in a week, which for me was a miracle. I had some issues with the triangles but made it through just fine. learning process. the friend I had in mind when I made this quilt absolutely loves it. Donna is the best teacher!

I love the Dresden pattern and loved also you giving us two ways to make it. It certainly is beautiful in the fabrics you chose and I think it would make a lovely wall hanging. I would probably hand stitch the Dresden plate onto the background by hand and there’s an easy way to make the circle appliqués using sewable light-weight interfacing on top of the front, stitching around and then turning it right side out. It is a very three D design, oo.
