It may be a cool ship, but it’s far from being a replacement for the Omega. There are thousands of Omegas and only 50 Warlocks (stated by Gideon in Crusade). You’re right, they’re probably meant to work as flagships to a squadron of Omegas. Still, it would probably be more effective as a squadron of Warlocks, but I’m sure they have to spread them out to patrol all of EA space. It’s also cheaper to refit existing ships with new tech rather than build the super-expensive Warlocks. Omegas do a good enough jobs against most threats and will probably remain the EA workhorse for a long time. Maybe even all the way until Earth nukes itself to Medieval days. Possibly even after, since we have no idea what happens to colonies.
at the time the first Warlocks were launched the first Omega class ships were only 14 years old, today we expect military ships to last somewhere between 30 and 50 years, so considering at the time of B5 the Omega was supposed to be one of the most powerful ships of the younger races, probably about on par with the best Centari or Narn ships, and not far behind the Membari Shalyn, I completely agree, the Omega class was not being phased out, maybe replaced as the flagship class, but not replaced as a front line battleship. this would be equivalent to the battleships of the second world war "replacing" the older slower first world war battleships as fleet flagships, the older ships still had their uses but were no longer the state of the art or most prestigious ships.
A lot of the information in this video came from the Agents of Gaming Babylon 5 Wars Wargame. The Warlock was the first of four new technology ships released for the game, and were among the final design released. One thing I really like about the Warlock is my personal involvement in its design. I did not work for AOG, but was a fan of the game. When the Warlock design was released, it had a number of Mass Driver on the Hull. I send a Email to the company asking why the Retro-Types weapons (mass drivers are considered to be a early low tech weapon), and wonder why not the Medium Pulse/Laser array like the Nova Dreadnought, and finished with "Or did I just predict the first variant model". The game designer wrote me back and said "I just might have". A few days later the design for the Warlock=B was on their web site and the Mass Driver were replaced with Medium Pulse/Laser Arrays.
Makes me feel good. Many years ago, during the days when Agents of Gaming was making the Babylon 5 War war game, they released a design for a Warlock Destroyer. Now expect for one brief few in the show (actually the second short life series), nothing was know about this class of ship. The original design was covered with Mass Drivers. This struck me as strange, because for an Advance Technology ship the retro nature of Mass Drivers, seams wrong. I send a email to the design, suggesting the variable Laser/Pulse arrays seamed like a better fix, for great flexibility. And joke about how I might have predicted the first variant. The Design suggested I just might have, and a few days later the website had Warlock-B, with Laser/pulse arrays replacing the mass drivers. It nice to know that that suggestion still is part of the ship's story.
Mass drivers have their role. They ordnance maintains velocity while directed energy weapons disperse with range. Rail guns also afford deflection fire which is a plus tactically. They leave no engine particle trails like missiles would. It is possibly the stealthiest weapon with this ship refit which also has a tactical value.
I think that B5 still stands up well on it's own, I'm not sure what a reboot would accomplish. Would it be a retelling of the same stories with upgraded visuals? I wouldn't really like to see the original actors replaced, it just wouldn't be "my" B5 anymore. The BSG reboot worked because it took a very outdated, very campy sci-fi series and replaced it with something much darker and much grittier. There was a lot of room for improvement in the old BSG that I just don't see in B5.
Original BSG was/is not really outdated..it's big budget various reasons, doomed it from the beginning. Who knows what direction it would have headed at, if the problems it faced, were not there. It had just skimmed the surface. The reboot got way to complicated and too deep, then it really needed it to be. I agree with you on B5. B5 was just perfect..it got to the point and made viewers think.
Nah. B5 stands the test of time...IF anything, it could pick up where the story line ended. BSG didn't need a reboot. Too many fans base a show off of special effects, but that will always become outdated as time goes on. It's the storyline, that seperates it from being a great show or average show.
@@CptFoolKillah thank you Captain , I always had high hopes for the warlock and I would definitely choose a warlock over a victory class destroy any day that was awesome 👍👍 👍👻
jonathan perez it's a good read... A little long but does a good job detailing the battle. A little luck and overwhelming firepower were all that was needed. Hell the armor held up to a direct hit from a Sharlin as well!
I had no trouble understanding the original video, but this way is good as well. I hope you will eventually find enough information to do a video about the Vree vessels. Especially the larger cruiser model. Even though we did not see a lot of them in the series, they have to be my favourites of all the B5 ships.
I will do vree ships too, but first Earth, Minbari so i can talk about the earth minbari war...after that i will talk about Vorlon, Shadows ships so i can talk about the so call War in Heaven...
I wish they made a section/episode in The Lost Tales where we see Ivanova in command of the EAS Titans, having an adventure while heading the Babylon 5. The Warlock Class looks so cool.
Great video Pax Deorum the Warlaock class destroyer is one of my favorite ships from Babylon 5 its a shame that it was not showed off a lot more in series or the movies.
Found your channel again! After habing my account deleted by the....."people" that run this failing platform for daring to talk about the election I finally found this channel again! I'm very happy. Your channel lore is great. Have a awesome 2021!
I couldn't understand at the end of Babylon 5 the space station Babylon was destroyed don't understand why it wasn't sold to the highest bidder or somebody would have taken it over if they were very wealthy for pennies on the dollar
Remember where it was located, over the Great Machine on the planet below. They couldn't take the chance other nations or private concerns wouldn't investigate or interfere with it.
Its a political thing, Dreadnoughts , Battleships, Cruisers, BC's now those are weapons of war to a delicate senate, Destroyers lol, they are defensive in nature.
we never salvaged any thing from the minbari during the war. They won all but one battle and their was nothing left to salvage. Any destroyed ships were cleaned up by the minbari to prevent any of their tech into falling into earth hands. Also, we got pulse cannon technology from the dilgar, who never had gravity drives.
Blackstar was salvaged. In fact Ivanova gives a fragment of the ship to Sheridan as a gift. It is the only Minbari ship that was destroyed. Details of what has been salvaged and reverse engineered are not discussed in the show.
In both the movie and the tv show the war was described as being extremely violent, causing deaths in both sides. But nothing describe the conflict better than this scene in the movie: In the Beginning" (1h10min) While Londo describe the war we see 2 Earth ships (1 Hyperion heavy cruiser and 1 Nova dreadnought) fighting at close quarters against a Minbari war cruiser. While the Minbari cruiser focused fire at the Nova, the Hyperion cruiser was able to get close enough to inflict heavy damage on the minbari cruiser with the plasma cannons. In the end the Nova dreadnought colided with the Minbari Cruiser, destroying both ships. The Earth Minbari War was a war of attrition, where Earth often employed suicidal tactics to slowdown the enemy. Quote about the Earth Minbari War from the movie "In the Beginning" (1h10min) "The humans, I think, knew they were doomed, but where another race would surrender to despair, the humans fought back with even greater strength. They made the Minbari fight for every inch of space. In my life, I have never seen anything like it. They would weep, they would pray, they would say good-bye to their loved ones, and then throw themselves, without fear or hesitation, at the very face of death itself, never surrendering..." - Emperor Londo Mollari, 2278

I don't want any part of B5 to be redone. But seeing these things in action with the same level of visual effects, and the same levels of realism as we see in The Expanse would be truly awsome.
@@billhanson4921 I have seen it, and what they have done looks really good. By I want them to go back and re-render all the models at modern resolutions.
Excellent work! I've read somewhere that the Warlock was supposed have full shadow armor like the Omega-X, but the project was scrapped. Thanks to you I know some shadow tech was still present in the Warlock. I never knew where the Warlock's hangar bays were until this video. LOL.
The shadow armor and the fusion beams were to be install on the warlock, but as the civil war progress and the warlock was saboted president Clark decided to apply then on the Omega since it was easy to produce. When Clark regine fell the technology was lost.
Elements in the warlock project purposely delayed the development of the ships. When the battle for earth happened there where 5 warlock almost ready for combat.
Just one question really, how does this thing stop? With all engines aft from looks does it even have a front one to slow itself down or is it just fucked?
A ship can rotate 180 deg and decelerate on approach to the destination. See Nauvoo salvage in The Expanse, we see the engines of the ships facing forward, as they are on a deceleration burn as they approach the target: th-cam.com/video/1oFwPdtaUSs/w-d-xo.html

Wish they had used this model instead of the victory. So I've gotten conflicting answers. What is that enormous cannon looking bit sticking out the nose? Is it a weapon or not?
are you sure there were "destroyed Minbari cruisers"? to quote Delenn "...only captain to ever defeat Minbari cruiser is behind me, you are in front of me..."
She said: "...only one human captain to ever survive a battle with a Minbari fleet" and was probably exaggerating for the dramatic effect. Plenty of Minbari ships were destroyed in the war. We saw a Nova ramming and destroying a heavily damaged Minbari cruiser in "In the Beginning". Earth ships could do a lot of damage when tactics allowed them to get up close. Later in a war, many Nova were refitted with rail guns, that gave them the ability to saturate Minbari ships with fire from a decent range, even without precise position tracking, which allowed Earth Force to raise the ship to ship kill ratio in some battles to 4:1 (obviously, still in Minbari favor). While the Minbari won every battle by ultimately achieving their objectives, the Nova class made them bleed and they considered it to be biggest threat out of all the younger races' ships, calling it the "hammer."
@@Prizrak-hv6qk very good, i stand corrected and thank you for an in-depth analysis. i quite enjoy the talks about my favorite science fiction show and wish more would do it. i would've tried to quote Minbari well wishes here but i do not have much faith in my memory. The advanced fusion reactor tech didn't come from the Minbari. It came from the Shadows via the Drakh. Humans couldn't figure out Minbari tech until they were admitted to the ISA. The reason the first 2 Warlocks rolled into service in early 2262 was because they were almost fully built. Earth couldn't finish them because the Shadows left in 2261 and the Drakh paused tech shipments for over a year.
The Warlock Class wasnt even on the drawing boards during the Earth-Minbari War, much as this implies. The Warlock was not even possible, until Human-Minbar co-operation become strong. This would be during the ISA period. During most of the series, the Minibari remain, wary and somewhat ambivalent about Humans overall.
Not entirely true. Warlocks were already in production by the end of the Earth Civil War. When Ivanova was promoted to captain at the end of season 4 she was given command of a Warlock.
There was, but the audio of that video was too bad. I tried to do the narration, but it's hard to understand. I will go back to "text to speech" videos which are far better in audio quality. This one is better!!!
I believe Susan Ivanova ended up with one of these ships the EAS Titans. Also After Sheridan confirmed the presence of dormant Shadow tech, he devised a plan that would give Ivanova and the Titans an edge if the dormant technology was ever used to take control of the ship. With the help of Lyta Alexander, Sheridan moved the Vorlon transport that had previously belonged to Ambassador Ulkesh from Bay 13 on Babylon 5 to Bay 7 on board the Titans, patching it into the Titans' control systems and allowing Ulkesh's ship to override the hidden Shadow tech. According to Sheridan, the revived ship, which had lain dormant in Bay 13 since the Vorlons had departed beyond the Rim with the rest of the First Ones, was satisfied with the new arrangement, stating "it would like to have something interesting to do."
@@meeper46 Yep apparently according to the wiki The EAS Titans was an Earthforce Warlock-class destroyer. One of the first Warlocks to roll off the production line, the Titans was under the command of Captain Susan Ivanova from December 2261. Shortly after taking command, Captain Ivanova began to suspect the presence of Shadow technology in the ship's control systems, but a thorough search failed to turn up anything. Without notifying Earthforce Command, Ivanova ordered the Titans to Babylon 5 to see if President Sheridan would allay or confirm her suspicions. After Sheridan confirmed the presence of dormant Shadow tech, he devised a plan that would give Ivanova and the Titans an edge if the dormant technology was ever used to take control of the ship. According to Sheridan, the revived ship, which had lain dormant in Bay 13 since the Vorlons had departed beyond the Rim with the rest of the First Ones, was satisfied with the new arrangement, stating "it would like to have something interesting to do." Ordering the few crew that knew of the Vorlon ship's presence to secrecy, Ivanova told them they were holding it for Earthforce Intelligence, also ordering Bay 7 sealed off until further notice.[3] They may have made a mistake but this is what it says.
I wish they had said how the drack war ended. Did we wipe them out? Did they surrender? Also as impressive as the Warlock is, it wouldn't stand a chance against an Invictus class Super Dreadnought of the Royal Manticoran Navy from the Honor Harrington universe book series written by David Weber.
As if the Interstellar Alliance (or the Shadows, I mean that ship was supposed to get damned Shadow organic armor, but the war ended before they could finish the first one (they took the shadow armor etc. and made the Omega X class instead, which was destroyed by a fleet of Whitestars under Ivanova)) didn't give the EA better sensors! I'd say: Slugging match! Which makes this a question of which ship can survive the innitial onslaught better and as we've seen: Sharlins are quite fragile once you can actually hit them (probably because they were made to fight the Shadows against whom most armor we know is actually pretty worthless!
@@sonoriuxo2437 Aliens, Halo, and B5 all follow the principle of "the vessel is a giant gun with a ship built around it" Pretty sure Cameron outright states this in a interview. It's the same principle as like an A-10.
But didn't particle beams ignored electromagnetic fields and shields altogheter? And how do you adapt to those? Its literally impossible... it is soft science after all i guess
Particle Beams that fire charged particles (such as protons and electrons) can be influenced by magnetic fields. So you can use magnetic fields to change the direction in which the particles are moving. In Babylon 5, Earth Alliance ships have several magnetic field emiters deployed under the armored hull of the ship to mitigate the effectiveness of particle weapons. However, if the particle beam fires particles without charge (such as neutrons) the particles will not be influenced by magnetic fields. With the only defense being a thick armored hull. The Minbari weapons are based on neutron particle beams. Thats one of the reasons why the Minbari had such sucess in the war againts the Earth Alliance.
Particle beams and electromagnetic fields are all energy-based fields and forces; just used in different ways. Yes, a strong-enough particle beam can get through an electromagnetic shield that's not strong enough; but shields are specifically designed to DEFLECT and DISSIPATE beams like that.... so, the beam would have to be fired (and hit) continuously, or fast enough, to damage a vessel; even one with comparatively weak fields. It's not "soft science," it's particle physics (and, right now in 2020...mostly theoretical physics); since we still don't fully understand things like magnetism, gravity, and both the weak and strong forces which bind atoms and molecules together. But, we're getting closer and closer.... although I would say we're probably at least 70-100 years away from being knowledgeable enough to actually use them in this way.
It is. The advanced armor, fusion reactors, navigation, and weapons systems are all based on reverse engineering low level Shadowtech. Also, all Warlocks secretly have advanced Shadowtech hidden deep within the navigation and weapons systems. This was discovered aboard the EAS Titans in the JMS short story Hidden Agendas.
This is wrong. Artificial gravity was given to Earth as a member of the Interstellar Alliance. Delyn even gave a speech mentioning it. They did not get tech from any destroyed Minbari ships. THe only victory was against the Black Star. It was nuked.
The first Warlock was launched just a few days after the battle of Earth. Susan Ivanova was the Captain that took the ship for shake down. The ship was already fitted with artificial gravity. That does not mean that the tech was fully integrated and didnt presented chalenges. So, technicaly, the Earth Alliance already had a ship with artificial gravity when Delenn made the offer.
@@PaxDeorum Maybe. I always thought that they rushed the ship into service after they got the info and perfected the artificial gravity. Who knows. LOL
@@poseidon5003 It's true that Delenn ofered support on developing artificial gravity. However, this type of cooperation between nations usually takes time and political effor to be implemented. In our on world this usually takes months or even years. So, I don't think the Warlock would have benefited from that immediately. Also, we must remmenber that over a dacade had pass since the Earth Minbary war. A conflit that almost led humanity to extincion. A conflit that shaped humanity and fueled xenophobic viewes amoung the people and helped President Clark rise in power. And now the minbari were back offering "gifts". After they directly interfeared in an internal conflit that spreaded caos and weakened Earth Force. I don't think that Earth Force would have felt very confortable allowing the minbari get even close to anything remoted related to the Warlock Destroyer. A ship that was design specifically to face and win agains minbari ships.
@@RenBR I disagree. Sheridan totally led the attack on Earth and literally established a new alliance. An alliance includes cooperation. There is no more distrust between the allies at the end of the series.
I have to completely disagree with this video as the warlock did not come into production or even concept until after the earth civil war, and gravitational technology was a gift from the interstellar alliance for joining.
Nope. Warlocks were already in production by the end of the Earth Civil War. In season 4 episode 21 Ivanova was promoted to the rank of captain. She was given the command of the EAS Titans, one of the first Warlocks to roll off the production line. This mission was a 1 year shakedown cruise.
@Zerebrat Eightyseven I suppose so yes though the Warlocks armour and weapons like the rail guns and missiles might compensate for the momentary use of the Vorlon super ray.
Only in that first Warlock-class ship; Susan Ivanova's ship. Other Warlocks didn't have Shadow tech in them. Ivanova and Captain Sheridan hid that Shadow tech on her ship, and kept it a secret. I think it was originally kept on B5 in a secured area... but, once the war ended and the B5 crew headed off in different directions, Sheridan and Ivanova didn't want it left there, where it could be found by someone else.... so, they put it on her ship instead. Makes sense, because Ivanova was one of the few people Sheridan really trusted!
All Warlocks have Shadowtech in them. That's the big secret that was to be revealed in Crusade season 2. The Earth Alliance had allied with the Shadows ever since the early 2250s and Earth was actively building (aka growing/breeding) new Shadowtech weapons. The EAS Titans is the only Warlock under full human control (well, technically Vorlon), and that's due to the Ulkesh's ship suppressing the Shadowtech.
Warlock with shadow tech? Wasn't that only a thing for the advanced omegas?? Where is this in the lore? Also: I don't care about the looks, hillbilly, it has a brutalist style to it that fits the narrative (WAR) quite well
The warlock class was revealed to have secret shadow technology in the short story Official Babylon 5 Magazine #22 (May 2000): Hidden Agendas by J. Michael Straczynski. However I don't think that is the same as what this video is claiming about the armor. It was the control system. see babylon5.fandom.com/wiki/EAS_Titans
The ship is a testbed of a lot of new technologies from the Shadows but the living raw Shadowtech is deep within the ship, hidden in the navigation and weapons systems. All the new tech debuting on this ship from the fusion reactors to the adaptive armor all came from the Shadows via the Drakh
This is not canon. Susan Ivanova was one of the first to become captain on one of the first ships of this kind after the Shadow War. ISA technology gifted by the Minbari was utilized to build it.
The Warlocks were already in production by the end of the Earth Civil War. In season 4 episode 21 Ivanova was promoted to the rank of captain. She was given the command of the EAS Titans, one of the first Warlocks to roll off the production line. This happened just a few days after the battle for earth implying that the warlock was ready before the Earth got the invitation for membership on the ISA.
Weren't the links with Shadow tech going to be explored on Crusades before it was cancelled? The EAS Cerberus incident would go onto expose Black Ops still operating within Earth Dome
in 1 million years human weapons would be level holy sh!t think simpsons predicted the future again..."your job will be to build and maintain those robots" basically everything in sci fi can be killed by armies of AI drones. mixed with hyperspace/warp/cloaked torpedo's or kamakaze ships of some kind. if nano tech becomes a thing never gonna be able to drop your shields(if you got shields) or gonna immediately have t-1000's forming on and ripping your ship apart. just have a field of nano bots floating around everywhere. can have it form into torpedo's and laser platforms or something probably. B5 is like only one where you cant do that because they use a different space. whoa think strazinski thought about that plot killer long time ago ;) star wars should just be a buncha tiny drone kamakaze ships blasting SD's apart in hyperspace.
@@RenBR nah remember the new day the earth stood still movie, keanu reeves. giant robots turning into cloud's of nano munchers eating everything. imagine them in space. whole planet shield worth. maybe could turn into moon sized mirror and just fry ships with the right distance from a star.
There is no way missiles would work in a space battle unless they where fighting within a 100 meters Because computers could track and destroy in coming missiles with weapons that travel at the speed of light like lasers Any weapons in a space battle would have to travel at near light speed because they could be so easily destroyed
Have you ever read the Honorverse series? David Weber covers this rather well. Missiles can and probably will be used in space combat for some very good reasons. 1) When you start talking about the distances involved, light speed weapons have to depend on light speed sensors. By the time that your sensors reported a missile at say 100000 km, and your light speed weapon responded, more than likely that weapon won't be there anymore. Yes, your sensors could be good enough to anticipate where that missile might be on the heading you first see it at, but your discounting ECM, the missile performing even the slightest evasive maneuver and light speed lag at extreme distances. Also, your computers would have to incredibly accurate, if your off by even a fraction of a millimeter, you would miss your target my 100s of km's at that range. Once they get in closer, certainly your point defense is going to pick them off but that leads to my next point. 2) Missile swarms are more than likely what will be used. Hundreds or thousands of missiles in that swarm to overwhelm the enemy point defense. 3) Long range missile engagements, admittedly, would be dependent on a viable high speed drive system for a missile that had a higher acceleration capability that your ship drive system, while short range engagements could probably use more conventional propulsion systems. This is what's described in Weber's Honorverse. While we don't have a drive system, even in theory, for a missile system that could engage at ranges like this, I'll point out that we don't have one for a ship to travel faster than light either so everything here is speculation. But tactically, it is quite the viable option if the technical can be worked out, which describes just about every warfare tactic ever.
That's why I liked the kinetic kill missiles from _Andromeda._ They were basically 1 kilo of matter with a drive that accelerated it to 95% light speed with a range of 10 light-minutes. I believe someone did the maths on that mass at that speed creating an explosive force of 60 megatons.
If an enemy vessel can remotely detonate the missiles, it could achieve a destructive advantage. The Warlock's missile placement, if detonated (although distant from the superstructure), would still severely damage the ship's hull to such an extent that it would be incapable of a flank speed in normal space and prohibited from jumping without the possibility of breaking up, in transit. The missile racks should be retractable, heavily armored, or removed from the hull. In some "digital fan art" scenarios (with the Minbari), the missile racks are the first thing disabled since Mimbari warships have little in the way of intercepting massed [hard] ballistic fighters/ordnance, and the Warlock's ordinance would be more than capable of disabling if not destroying, not only one Minbari cruiser but every Mimbari vessel in it flotilla. It doesn't matter if the targets are fighters or missiles. In a close-quarters battle, the Minbari cruisers would be at a loss. Mimbari cruisers are designed for and rely upon long-range/medium confrontations along with their stleath tech. Earth Force ships run the gamut. They are designed for long, medium, and short-range target acquisition/liquidation. Some fair better than most. That said, the Nova Destroyers rule. They can successfully engage in any range and inflict sizable damage initially and/or over time. The Warlock's initial design and tactics depart from this significantly. It is designed to destroy the most credible threats to its convoy/fleet, allowing its support craft (this being Novas) to neutralize any target(s) that survive the Warlock's initial assault. While these same sub-capital ships simultaneously provide cover to the Warlocks and any fighters assaulting the opposition.
@lennon tulsa Minbari have fusion cannons as their point defense. They have no issues targetting missiles. Missiles would have issue targetting minbari ships due to stealth. Warlock's missiles are already outside the hull, the 2 protrusions by the side hold the large missiles. The 16 smaller silos are internal. Warlock was initially made to be paired with Omegas packs, not Novas. Novas couldn't engage targets at long range, their crux. Were largely decommissioned by the time Warlocks came around.
..if you're going to use the text to speech utility you have to make sure your punctuation and grammar are correct, else it just sounds silly and annoying.
Hmmmm... I use to say that now I'm more concerned that it wouldn't be done properly. I figure let them trial something like the Dilgar war in a series. Give us fans something new if they get it right yet build hype for those unfamiliar with B5 and form a production team good enough for a reboot. Or they stuff the Dilgar War series up and the damage is contained to that. The classic B5 will not ruined by a ill thought out reboot.
Absolutely not. I've had enough reboots to last me a lifetime. What we need is a brand new show set in the B5 universe. Kind of a 'Babylon 5: The Next Generation' so to speak.
For it's size and class it's not. It also doesn't have to be nimble. It's massively armored and has massive firepower in a full sphere, as well as a fighter screen.
Nope. It's true that the Earth Alliance was outgun, but that does not mean they didnt inflicted damage on the Minbari. At the final stage of the war the Earth Alliance was literally using kamikaze attacks in order to slow the Minbari. In the movie (in the beggining), Londo describe the war as being bloody for both side, with humanity making the mimbari pay for every inch of space. In the movie we see an Earth Alliance task force in battle with a minbari cruiser, when a Nova Dreadnought literally rammed againts the minbari ship.
Yeah I think it was only one ship has destroyed a Minbari ship and lived to tell the tale. We do see other Minbari ships being destroyed in "In the Beginning" but it was being rammed by a human ship.
That was true, up until the end of the EA Civil War (as was clearly explained in the video)! Once the Interstellar Alliance was formed, Earth got LOTS of technology from both the Alliance, and the Minbari! And, of course, having fought the Minbari once - Earth wanted to make sure that, in case they ever went toe-to-toe with the Minbari again (alliances don't last forever!), their ships could hang with Minbari cruisers in 1-to-1 battles! Hence; the Warlocks! But that wasn't the PRIMARY purpose of the Warlock class; it was to show the rest of the galaxy that Earth was a major power, IA or no IA... and other races needed to keep that in mind. Also, since the Warlocks had vastly extended ranges (like the Explorer class ships that built stargates far from Earth), the EA could explore the galaxy and go places it couldn't reach before; a Warlock could do that on deep space missions, and still defend itself in case it ran into trouble! I'm sure that was one of the types of missions Susan Ivanova was given, since she commanded a Warlock after the Civil War, and everyone else left Babylon 5. A HELL of an assignment; you get to play with a brand new class of ship, and go places/see things no other humans have seen before!
I may be wrong and tell me where i can look to find the answer but as Delenn said, only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. I did not see anywhere that no Minbari ship was destroyed. Once a battle is over, i am pretty sure that you could go and and find a couple if debris worth studying.

@3:42...i only see 7 smaller autoloader silos...?
My favorite space ship of all time. Thank you.
We need a B5 reboot like the Battletstar Galactica over ten years ago.
I'm definitely with you on that we need to pressure j strazinski to hurry up he's not getting any younger.

How is this classified as a destroyer? this is clearly a cruiser if not a battlecruiser
B5 uses traditional names, but in different roles. Destroyers are bigger than cruisers in B5.
It's a Dreadnought bro!
But nothing describe the conflict better than this scene in the movie: In the Beginning" (1h10min)
While Londo describe the war we see 2 Earth ships (1 Hyperion heavy cruiser and 1 Nova dreadnought) fighting at close quarters against a Minbari war cruiser.
Quote about the Earth Minbari War from the movie "In the Beginning" (1h10min)
"The humans, I think, knew they were doomed, but where another race would surrender to despair, the humans fought back with even greater strength. They made the Minbari fight for every inch of space. In my life, I have never seen anything like it. They would weep, they would pray, they would say good-bye to their loved ones, and then throw themselves, without fear or hesitation, at the very face of death itself, never surrendering..."

Pax Deorum, oh wow. So that's what happened. Thanks I didn't know that.
See Nauvoo salvage in The Expanse, we see the engines of the ships facing forward, as they are on a deceleration burn as they approach the target:

are you sure there were "destroyed Minbari cruisers"?
to quote Delenn "...only captain to ever defeat Minbari cruiser is behind me, you are in front of me..."

The audio playback is pitiful at best.

@@shademoriqI though Ulkesh’s ship was destroyed during the fight between Kosh and Ulkesh?

Shortly after taking command, Captain Ivanova began to suspect the presence of Shadow technology in the ship's control systems, but a thorough search failed to turn up anything. Without notifying Earthforce Command, Ivanova ordered the Titans to Babylon 5 to see if President Sheridan would allay or confirm her suspicions.

I knew there was shadow tech in there somewhere.....
More than a match for any Minbari Sharlin- class warcruiser.
It will heavily depend on which ship can lock on first. As only one shot from either ship will determine the winner.

There is no way missiles would work in a space battle unless they where fighting within a 100 meters
Because computers could track and destroy in coming missiles with weapons that travel at the speed of light like lasers
Any weapons in a space battle would have to travel at near light speed because they could be so easily destroyed
@@Abrxas01 Yay for Honorverse !!!
flak warheads,,, when you have to shoot down several thousand ballbearings,....
Watch The Expanse, that show shows how good missiles/torpedoes would realistically be in space combat.
Great video, but I thought I read you narrated this one? I really dislike the computer voice.
Nope, i tried to narrate but the sound ended up terrible.
Good ship but looks a bit Sulaco to me.
I was actually thinking about redo this video with a narration. My speech has improved since my last try.
Why on earth would I want a damn robot talking to me. If you can take the time to make this, you can talk yourself.
He has spoken on one of his videos and his English is not good, the computer voice is better.
That dumb. Graviton research should have been goal one.
Maybe its time to reboot B5
Still slow and sluggish. A great target.
For it's size and class it's not. It also doesn't have to be nimble. It's massively armored and has massive firepower in a full sphere, as well as a fighter screen.
@@seandlax9 right, just as long it doesn't go up against an X wing or the the Defient.

Only one Minbari ship was destroyed during the war, and it was nuked. Earth got no new tech from Minbar.
@@GiveMeMarw Yes. Humanity was literally sacrifing ships in order to slow the minbari down. It was a nightmare!!!
Why would you EVER expose your missile silos and missile launch mechanisms like that??? Soo illogical..
ugh....robo-voice
I would of loved to listen to this, but that computer voice drives me crazy.
steven mosley
And you a Science fiction fan an all...........😎👽
Omega class is still better imo
I never liked the Omegas. I thought they looked like the spaceship equivalent of a trash compactor.
You 30 days to come up with a better design
Sorry but I can't stand videos with terrible computer voices.
Use a real voice.. YOUR voice or don't bother at all.. putz!!
Downvoted for creepy computer voice.
I hate a monotone robot talking.Whats the matter, too cheap to get someone actually talk?.I'd NEVER follow your site.
