If a contractor needs that much money up front, they are not a solvent business. Run.

For material heavy jobs most has to be because you need something to build with. Hence why scamers pick them

@@ImprovmanZero If doing this then people need to request certificates of insurance on the materials and proof that the company has the material or that it has been ordered.

Even if their lawsuits are successful what do you think the odds are of them recovering any of their money?

Most don't think that far ahead. Many assume courts collect judgements. Doesn't work that way. Also, many companies have little to no assets. They just shutdown and reopen under a new name.

You gotta kinda wonder why liability insurance is mandatory for every car... but the construction business, which has been riddled with fraud and liability issues for decades - if not centuries, doesn't require any insurance for anybody that wants to call themselves a construction contractor... What is preventing politicians from creating laws to protect citizens and consumers? Are they in the pocket of the construction industry because the construction industry lines the pockets of the politicians?

Major hint in how to prevent this: Require all Contractors to "Bond" thier job. Then if they don't finish it or mess up and won't fix it the Insurance Company who issued the Bond will pay someone else to clean it up.
Now you will have to pay some extra to get that bond... but this is standard practice for public and commercial construction contracts. Lets just say that governments and large companies have learned their lessons.
IF the contractor cannot get a construction bond...RUN... and don't give them a cent.
ps: if given a bonding certificate; call the bonding company using the phone number you can find on their internet site and verify that they issued the bond.

You need to do research before hiring a company. Look at BBB. Check with the chamber of commerce, see other pools they did and ask to talk to client.
There should be progres payments in smaller amounts. Inspections need to be made at different intervalls.
They should have bond and license number.

Only if it was a few simple issues. IF there is a general mistake with how things were built it will be an expensive and time consuming fix. In the worst case they tear the pool out and start over.

Why do people continue to give these corrupt contreactors before they have started anything? Why do people continue to give contractors money for work not started? I am not giving you a single cent until the day you show up to start work. I am only giving you payemtn(s) when you deliver materials and do work. I am also not cutting you a check. To the Dad with the finished pool but has the crack in it and the tingly feeling when you get in it! Go to the breaker box turn off all power to the pool and spa and let your kids enjoy a swim for an hour or two and then when the exit turn it back on! If it's as dangerous as you say trust me I'm not defending the pool installer but if you get pool hoppers kids in the neighborhood Who jump pools at night everybody's done it you may kill someone if they get shocked and you would be liable have another contract to come in and fix your electrical in your ground issue and then sue the piss out of this charlatans of a pool installer but there's no reason for your children to suffer the consequences again shut everything off at the breakers let them swim let them swim let them swim LOL
