How many tools did I use, “all of them”. Lol. You did good by ur self. I use 2x2 pieces of wood to push the tensioner in and the track comes right off.
I use old bucket pins out of an excavator to slowly push the idler all the way in. Place it right in front of the back roller and slowly track the machine.
Having same problem on my T450 R drive motor. Bobcat wants $5500 for part and $145/hr for labor. Not as familiar with this as you but since it’s the slow season I might as well take a crack at it.

put 1 1/4 hard wood dowels in track and go round the ideler and the track loosens right up.
there is an easy way and a hard way and you are doing it the hard way,lol it helps to clean it before you take it apart too.
