      Because they're a weak and incompetent organization that was held together by Terrorists, Pirates, Criminals, and civilians who were trading one form of slavery for another. Once the fight was over the "unity" wavered and ultimately lost it's power. They're just a generic space government. Then again the multiple comments you've left are generic enough to have been compiled by a bot. Star Wars is nothing more than fantasy space circlejerk now. @@outrider425 Mothballing's not free. You need some amount of power, probably life support, periodic inspections to see if anything's broken and security to keep out thieves and mynocks. If you try to reactivate it, you have to turn everything back on, inspect every inch of what's basically a city, then bring in thousands of personnel who have to figure out how to operate a ship that is unlike anything else in the fleet. It's doable, but it's a giant pain. And for what? The ship doesn't match New Republic doctrine, it doesn't match the image they want to put out, and they don't think they need it. A mothballed Executor would just be a money sink and something of a security risk if it was kept in remotely usable condition (as someone might try to steal it).

    My read is that the MC95 is a potent cruiser, but less powerful than the MC85. The MC85 seems like a limited-run late-war heavy battlecruiser intended to outmatch ISDs and better perform the "tanky centerpiece" role of the Home One type MC80, but they either came off the line too late to do much or the Republic found the Starhawk was just as good and easier to build. The MC95 seems like a postwar design for planetary defense fleet use, so it's probably smaller, cheaper, and easier to crew and maintain. Basically a Liberty-type MC80 but actually built for warfare instead of being converted from civilian designs. It also seems like it was roughly mass-producible (with modifications), given the sheer number that seemed to be in PDF service.

  • @TimberWolf99

    Canon desperately needs the source books and Essential Guides that Legends got. Stat blocks and histories for all the warships we've seen/heard about but don't have information on, *especially* the MC85 since the (apparently) stripped-down Raddus is the only information we have on it.

    • @aralornwolf3140
      @aralornwolf3140 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. I even dislike Eck's "defense" of it. It doesn't matter that it has 36 of the largest weapons available if it can only bring one or two to bear on a single threat axis. Which makes it useless in battles against other capital ships (definition of a capital ship is a battlecruiser and larger vessel). From the shots from the movie, the weapons it carries are the typical anti-ship weapons so it has the armament of a light cruiser while being the same size as a large _battleship._ *Shakes Head*
      I've always wondered why the Resistance has such an ineffective, yet expensive as all heck to maintain, ship... on the other hand, they didn't even have enough credits to make sure their ships were fully fueled... so...
      The only other explanation could be the Raddus was a _civilian_ ship (large freighter/transport) outfitted by the Resistance as an "armed merchant cruiser". In the novel Honor Among Enemies by David Weber (Honorverse Series) as the war against the People's Republic of Haven progressed the Royal Manticore Navy was pressed for ships, which caused them to reduce the number of ships they were using for anti-piracy patrols. This resulted in an increase of piracy in the polity that was, at best, ineffectual at policing its own space.
      The RMN decided to send off a 'squadron' of "armed merchant cruisers" to conduct anti-piracy patrols in said polity. The "armed merchant cruisers" were modified civilian ships, each massing nearly the equivalent of the largest warships the Super Dreadnought (slightly smaller than the MC80's seen in Return of the Jedi). They were equipped with the typical weapons used by super dreadnoughts, although due to the civilian hull, they only had the same number of weapon's placements as a battlecruiser despite being 10 times as massive. They also lacked an armoured hull, making them as fragile as destroyers. As they were designed to go up against pirates, or in the worst case scenarios, enemy commerce raiders (which rarely used battlecruisers), these flaws were deemed acceptable by the RMN.
      Still doesn't explain why the Resistance had 2 corvettes, 1 frigate, and 1 large capital ship. They would have been better off _selling_ Raddus to buy a few cruisers and/or light carriers... that way they would be better equipped to maintain their ships.
      But, whatever, bad writing is to blame. Let's not waste time trying to find post hoc explanations.

    A series called Rogue Squadron is something we definitely need. If I was making it I’d do something like anthology story arcs. Say there’s 10 episodes is make 2 episode separate stories about different pilots and there missions. Separate arcs that lead to the final arc with the biggest mission. Also I kinda like the idea of jumping around in the timeline. From the clone wars the empire vs Rebels spending time with both factions pilots. As well with the new republic vs the imperial remnant especially during the fight with Thrawn. The the resistance vs first order. These can be around 30-35 minute episodes.

    I absolutely adore and love the Starhawk, especially the significance of the tractor beam projector.
    What I appreciate about making the tractor beam the centerpiece of the ship, is that it serves two purposes. It is both for utility and acts as a symbol. Symbolically by making the main weapon of the ship a tractor beam, the New Republic is essentially spitting in the face of the Empire who always make their turbolasers, superlasers, or other weapons the center piece, as a symbol of power and intimidation.
    A tractor beam, meanwhile, is not capable of directly harming an enemy, it is not a weapon in the conventional sense. So in a way it tells the people "We are not like the Empire", it sets the New Republic apart from their enemies. But outside of the propaganda and symbolism, the tractor beam is just a versatile tool. Not only can it be used to just rip ships apart, you can use it to smash ships together or into other objects. You don't even need to be overtly violent with it, you can just pull an enemy ship out of formation. This can open up avenues for your ships to attack or flank through or it can be used to draw an enemy vessel into an unfavorable position. Outside of direct combat, the tractor beam can be used for a variety of tasks. It can pull asteroids out of hyperspace lanes, allow the ship to act as tug for damaged or crippled vessels, and even help save crashing ships or space stations that are danger of colliding with a planet or moon.
    Never in a thousand years would I have thought that a tractor beam would ever make a worthwhile weapon but the Starhawk has more than proved me wrong.
    What an incredible vessel.

    • @AshanBhatoa
      @AshanBhatoa 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To address potential problems such as utilising Imperial vessels.
      I should clarify. I don't believe that the Starhawk construction process would encompass just cobbling or welding together large chunks of disassembled Imperial-class vessels with seldom alteration, such as building a new toy from LEGO bricks. Moreso salvaging the existing ISDs for their refined materials. Essentially free refined materials also, so I don't understand the financial argument against the Starhawk I've seen.
      It
      There's no necessity for the vessels to operate the same internally. In fact the Aftermath Trilogy specifically assert that Imperial vessels were utilised and they were literally the spoils of war from all the engagements up until the Battle of Endor. The Starhawk program was of a much larger program authorised by the New Republic Senate to recycle and salvage materials.
      With Imperial-esque designs, I'm reffering to external design similarities, such as the brim trenches of ISDs which are alwats cited as having room for armaments and sensor pallets. There's no need for the interfaces, the protocols to run them and the infrastructure to be the same. The Aftermath Trilogy simultaneously asserts that the Starhawk-class were an updated design. More advanced than both what the Imperials and Alliance had near of its class. It further state internal AND external designs were updated. Essentially the MC Star Cruisers and Imperial-class Star Destroyers.
      With manpower, I rationalise it as being an intentional inflation on the Imperial Military's part - ISDs are still defined as requiring a great amount of staff. I'm aware you dislike the lore on that regard, however it's entrenched now. The rationalisation of it being a byproduct of enlisting as many denizens as possible into the Imperial war machine does make sense from an ideological standpoint, which the Empire provided equal weight to. In addition to tying a planets citizens to relying completely on the Imperials for their opportunity and work. Why should a fledging New Republic be able to fill those vessels in the same manner the Imperials did? They could maintain some, however not necessarily enough.
      That's also where the city-fortress comes from - a single ISD is slated as being sufficient to subjugate an average planet. The sufficient people and force to do that.
      The Starhawk was not just intended to necessarily serve as a warship as I've evidenced above. The extraordinarily powerful tractor beam projectors are fundamentally multi-purpose. The Starhawk merely weaponised the technology incredibly well. Think of the strategy of locking onto unsuspecting vessels in Empire at War with a tractor beam once they are in adequate range of the main armament of a starship. Then decimating the captured vessel whilst it is immobilised. It has a varying yield, as all tractor beams do, and this incentivises those commanding a Starhawk to think creatively.
      I'd say the New Republic would move away from the ISD being such a symbol utilised in propaganda and such.

    It would make sense for the MC95 to be a defense fleet ship when you see how many variants there are. If the ships were made on contract for the New Republic Navy, the ships would likely be standardized to a single model. Also, considering that they look a lot more like older Mon Cal cruisers, it seems like the MC95 is more like a venerable design with new technology when contrasted with the cutting edge utilitarian feel we get with something like the MC85 or the Starhawk. Many defense forces would likely want to stick with something proven and familiar rather than ship designs that haven't been field tested.

    I'm really bummed by the lack of use of the Starhawk by Star Wars creators. The versatility of a super heavy tractor beam makes it a weapon and a tool for disaster response. Using a tractor beam for search and rescue, towing disabled ships, and altering the trajectories of asteroids on collision courses with major assets are an example of a shift of wartime assets to peacetime activities.
    During times of peace a Starhawk could be used to assist neighboring systems. These neighbors may then be interested in joining the New Republic.

      I would change how force ghosts work. They've made it overly complicated and forget the fact the living force has a will of its own. I would simplify things by saying everyone who dies becomes one with the force and it's the will of the force that creates ghosts, what the others learned to do was how to be conscious while in the force. This would also help explain Sith Ghosts because it's their will to go against the natural order of the force that causes the damaged ghosts we've seen in previous stories.

      Can anyone do this? I would say either adding time jumps in the sequels, meaning having the time between movies greater along with a change of events. Otherwise, Id make it so the NR isnt destroyed in the sequels. I dont think its outright said anywhere other than the opening crawl for Last Jedi but they act like the NR is totally destroyed in TFA. Theyd be weakened, sure, but I think theyd do like a state of the union and the designated survivor type deal. That way, we could see the resistance connect with surviving fragments of the NR military, maybe actually see a Starhawk, and have a proper battle, not rehashing the underequiped good guys vs the technologically superior bad guys

    Was wondering if ANY such vessels like these decided to show up at Exegol... funny how what Eck displayed was basically distant dots.. hardly constitutes a heavy advanced battleship able to fly close support an launch a pounding on a ton o mf similar ships to it BUT basically as sitting ducks which WASN'T shown AT ALL. An even when Sideous did the lightning thing to the whole reinforcement fleet truly huge an advanced Dreads woulda been able to at least shrug off least some of whats basically a lot of powerful lightning an lasted least a short while longer instead of temporarily dropping outta the sky like we was shown. Noticed a distinct lack of alot of heavy warships close enough to seriously put the hurt on Palp's Exegol fleet.

    A large number of guns doesn't matter if they can't all be used together. In the movies, we don't see Star Destroyers lit up like a Christmas tree firing 100 something cannons. I see 3 potential reasons this doesn't occur: 1) The cannons don't have overlapping fields of fire. It needs so many cannons to fight from any angle. 2) The reactors don't generate enough power to fire all cannons at once. 3) The extra cannons are redundancies for cool down times. The older design of the star destroyer may require longer reloads or cool downs for each cannon. Newer, cooler, more efficient Mon Cal canons may shoot faster longer. Think musket versus machine gun.

  • @GAJake
    @GAJake 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The new republic should have focused their military on its navy and a small but highly capable marine corps and special operations, as well as a starfighter corps and system guard for policing (coast guard) and left it's army more up to "reserve command" Where planetary defense forces and militias like the resistance train together but are under individual command until an invasion.
    Our focus would be on small automated carriers with very few crew requirements and a focus on thick hulls, shields, and point defense lasers and missiles. Highly advanced starfighters would be the majority of the offensive firepower allowing it to focus it's power on shields. We would still include an escort fleet of small cruisers, frigates, and support ships (such as interdictors), and marine troop ships if needed. Also more starfighters and bombers from the independent starfighter corps would augment our fleet by being able to enact hit and runs without risking putting a carrier group in danger.
    For fighting pirates and for law enforcement there's no need to waste expensive fighter-launched torpedo's. In this case small patrol cruisers with turbolasers, ion cannons, tractor beams, and laser cannons are sufficient to fight most pirate ships, and a small complement of close range interceptors will be more than enough to take out whatever small civilian fighters or gunboats may be used. A handful of these interceptors could be remotely piloted. Although remote ships are highly sensitive to jamming, it is unlikely pirates and criminals have this ability. This would decrease the amount of crew danger. Modified remote A-wings with removed shields and hyperdrives would be perfect in this role. A-wings are very effective but very difficult to fly due to their speed and would be suited well for remote piloting. Tie interceptors would work but since this is a law enforcement role public perception is important. We would also include a complement of hyperdrive-equipped patrol boats and their escort fighters to fly sorties a few systems away form the main cruiser. VCX-100 freighters and E-wings or X-wings would be a good combo as the VCX-100 is large enough for the fighters to dock and resupply. The patrol cruisers would often have a few escort ships consisting mostly of supply ships such as hammerhead corvettes and medical ships such as nebulon-cs. As a coast guard type agency the system guard also helps with search and rescue and emergency medical.

    I believe things like the mc 85 had so few weapons acording to its cross-sections because it was already being decommissioned and probably has a number of its weapons removed.
    Not to since the same shielding technology is used on the mc 95 and is notably smaller than the 85 it’s possible they had similar armaments if not slightly improved ones compared to the best of their mc 80 predecessors.
    I do hope we get a good idea of it’s true scale, and really wanna see it in action in the possible upcoming THRAWN campaign, if not having something that’ll give concrete answers about these ships

It just doesn't carry itself like an iconic ship and the reason for its existence, cut apart Star Destroyers is not only a stupid idea but it just doesn't look the part at all. If it looked more like a piece of junk then maybe but if you seriously want to know a ship IRL that was torn up and put back together almost completely then look at the Imperial Japanese Carriers Kaga and Akagi. Both ships were Battleships that were stopped partway in construction and rebuilt as bonkers carriers which were AGAIN reworked into traditional looking carriers. They still hold their battleship heritage quite clearly in their hull structure. The Starhawk looks like a model kitbasher that just plucked SD guns and engines and glued it onto a fanfic design :/.

A powerful tractor beam isnt the issue. It's that it can pull ships significantly larger than itself. It makes very little sense.
