- January 25, 2020 UPDATE - I sent the boots back to Freebird and promptly received a refund! Based on their customer service alone I would give them another try on a different style :)

The boots are amazing the brand handcrafts their leather shoes and makes them look distressed ... it’s the whole point of the brand
Texas girl here. If they’re too smooth on the bottom, go outside and dig the sole into the concrete and they won’t be slippery anymore. Or take them to a cobbler and tread to the bottom. And for the “white” substance leftover from the distressing process, get some boot conditioner and it’ll away, you’ll need to condition the boots anyways so they’ll last. The boots will last a lifetime.

I consider Freebird to be high quality. In fact, a coworker of mine who has money, spends loads on clothing, and even uses personal shoppers has several pairs of Freebirds. She is very discriminating. I’d keep them if you can get the ankle issue resolved!

Freebird boots are super high quality and a definitely reputable brand. And 200 dollars was a steal for the Coal boot. I just got them for 298.00 on sale. They are so unique and beautiful. I love the brand and cant wait to purchase more. Leather boots need to be broken in.

I love Freebird boots and shoes!! I have 4 pairs. Yes you have to break them in and you should scuff the bottoms with sand paper. They are top notch!!! ❤️
Freebird is amazing!! You just needed to wear them and break them in. They are incredible quality. I have coal in a different color and I wear them all winter, I’ve had them for two years and they still look brand new.

I bought a pair of Coals several weeks ago. On sale for $300. The right boot is terribly uncomfortable in the inner toe box, near my big toe. Neither are very comfortable but I was guessing I needed to break them in. I bought some inserts to attempt to help. I literally had to trim the right insert identically to the left toe box for the insoles to fit. (They should mirror each other). I would literally have to have two left feet for these to be wearable and customer service is claiming I just need to stretch them. #freebird #ripoff #junk

Theresa those boots are SO worth the price considering it is all leather. I love them! Exchange them if your left ankle is uncomfortable but keep them!

Beautiful design and unique- I would absolutely keep if they are comfortable. Wear around on carpet and I have fingers crossed- make sure that the flap that is under all the laces/zippers are flat and not twisted- I had that happen once and that was the problem. Good luck!

I own many pairs of boots from this company. Because they are quality leather they do take a couple of wears to break in. Also they will last for many years to come!!

The left boot looks looks to me like it is wrinkled a bit too much. Another concern is the separation on the boot of the sole and heel. It might be distressed (?) but to me it looks like it's coming apart. If you went to a department store you could check out another pair.My thought is to return them

While I might put up with few annoyances in a less expensive item, if a $200 boot (sale price!) was uncomfortable in *any* way, it's going back. No question.

Hi Theresa. I bought these boots in December of 2017. I ordered 3 pairs when they were 30% off. One was back ordered so long Freebird asked if I wanted to cancel. By the time I decided a week later to cancel pair 3 they had shipped. I kept all 3. I didnt wear a tall pair until our holiday party December 2018! They were very slippery and I had to hold onto someone's arm and take baby steps. Then I had to literally roll them off at the end of the night because I guess I sweat too much and it was like Ross from friends with the leather pants episode. I thought I would have to cut them off! I tried the above the ankle size on a date night and also with a pair of cropped skinnies in spring 2019. They were slippery at 1st but this this time I was prepared and they lose the slippery factor after walking around. Also because the heel is high, I walked slower and more caregully. Still yet to wear pair #3. I spent $707 on all 3 and have only worn 3 times in 2 years. They seem to be my special occasion not every day boots and I feel FOR THAT REASON I spent too much. However, I got great compliments all 3 wears. I too don't like how it appears to be shoddy where the sole meets but even with the slippery steps and tugging to get off (and I do mean tugging) they held up. Let's hope I find more reason to wear them in 2020!

Just scuff the bottoms with sandpaper like western boots 😁 boom you are good. One more thing… wear the boots!!! They will break in and you will love them. Also bend them like a beast to make a huge difference in fit and comfort right from the start. I bought mine at FBird store and got great tips. I have 4 prs and truly love wearing them. They are meant to be worn and admired 👍 rock ‘em
Freebird boots are fantastic! They are supposed to appear distressed. Each pair is made by hand. Bed Stu boots are also hand made, look distressed and are amazing!
I own over a dozen pair of Freebirds at this time there are only four locations in the US. I have been to one in Nashville. A very impressive store to say the least. The customer service online and out the store was top-notch. The boots are a very high-quality and handmade so sizing is not always perfect. It’s my opinion if you bought that same boot again you would not have the issue you were experiencing. $200 for that boat is impressive in itself! I have owned my Kohl’s for four years and loving them every time I wear them! You have to read the reviews carefully to help you with sizing because there are no half sizes. They are not high maintenance every time you see all those laces you’ll also see a zipper…. I only had to lace mine once or twice for fitting purposes depending on the style… I highly recommend Freebirds! The leather smell is addictive too… The styles are unmatched!

They're awesome!!..so stylish ...sometimes you just need boots that just steals your ❤...As for the rubbing ankle issue..I would try to get in touch with the company..maybe possibly a minor issue.
if your going to keep them..condition them with mink oil..you don't know how long they were sitting there...good luck whatever you choose. 💕🥰
Send them back today. Any feeling of discomfort especially something protruding into an ankle is not acceptable at any price.

You are much braver than me!!!! I would never spend this much money on something without seeing it in person or without knowing anything about the company. I like the look of these boots but I wouldn't have the patience to lace them up:) Glad you are returning them if they are uncomfortable. Hope you get your money back. Right now I am dealing with customer service to get money credited back to my account....I returned the item to the store and it's a pretty well-known chain. I am aggravated with them!!!!

Hey there Theresa 🙂 I agree with the consensus here ~ send them back hun! There's no wayyyyy, at any price I'd tolerate a pair of boots, sneakers or any apparel that was poking me! Your money is too valuable to tolerate something like that! There are some quality extras like the denim covered boot insert but that doesn't make up for the piece poking your ankle. @@TheresaRene360 Customer service is key to any company's success. Years ago when I first started out in the working world after high school, I worked in customer service. What I didn't realize at the time was that every single position I've ever held required an element of customer service. We represent our respective companies as soon as we have our name badge displayed on our person. Good for you, for sending them back! 👢
Hi Annie - You are spot on! I am very customer service oriented myself. It has served me well in every job I have ever had. If Freebird follows through with the refund in a timely manner I would still recommend them based on their customer service. A REAL person responded to me and seemed to genuinely care - unlike the robot at Wish. Maybe other boots from Freebird are more comfortable - I LOVE their aesthetic - kind of an edgy vibe.
@@TheresaRene360 Oh yes, I agree, the aesthetic was terrific, the boots were VERY cool, just too pricey for me. I'm glad that you show a wide range of apparel on your channel, all different price points. I think most people are more bargain oriented and would need to justify spending the money for a big purchase like these boots - for example, you'd want to make sure you get your wear out of them!

With that said - $200 is hefty to me if I don't love everything about them. I did contact customer service and they said if I decide to return or exchange them I have options :)
I just realized I’m on my sons acct so sorry about that. They’re all handcrafted & Steve Madden owns the store. You’re going to pay if you want quality. B/c they are HANDMADE & real LEATHER every boot will have its own characteristics. What you bought is distressed so yeah the entire boot including sole will look that way. Why have a distressed boot & new sole?! It will not look right.

I just bought a pair and I did notice the bottom of the boots are smooth. Has anyone have any issues with it being slippery?
You have to scuff the bottom with sandpaper. I bought mine at the freebird store in CO and got the best tips. Also bend them like Beckham to help them break in. Good luck 😊 I have 4 pairs and all gorgeous and I enjoy wearing them. Also….. I’m extremely picky about fit and quality. These are top notch.
You can tell if they're quality boots if they have an actual stacked leather heel, not fake stacked leather. Too many boot companies, even high quality manufacturers fake the heel stack. I don't see it faked as much in mens boots. Frye is a good example of this. My guess is those are a fake heel stack.

I have two pairs of these boots and they are amazing! I needed a boot with a bigger calf area and these were perfect. My biggest complaint about FB boots is the width, they seem to run a bit narrow so if you are curious about sizing because you have a wide foot it's something to keep in mind.

I loved the look of the boots and I also liked the combination of colors. Would I spend that kind of money on boots, no. If I spent that kind of money I would want to feel like I was walking on clouds. Glad you sent the boots back. I'm sure you can find something else.

These are by far top quality. These are hand made. They will be unique
The leather straps hang lower in the back of one of the boots. It is very obvious. If one hurts your ankle then send them back. From my experience, if pain when new then pain always.

They are cute, but would send them back if they are causing you pain! Nothing worse than being uncomfortable, especially where the feet are concerned!

Good decision to return the boots. I ordered cheaper boots online and was lucky, but discomfort at that price is a no-go. Nice mani (I see you're using the $1 Store polish)!

This company is definitely in the up & up. Great company with excellent quality boots. $209 is a steal for these boots. I would've bought them from you. They were my size...lol. Wish I had come across the same FB ad.

Nice boots. What I've seen on FB are the boots and bedspreads with the stylistic animals on them. I especially liked the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Fox designs- but they are expensive, and the pictures seem photoshopped. I guess it's always a crap shoot, right? Thx for the video- and for taking one for the team- hope the boots work out, but sounds (at the end) like probably not.

I’d contact the seller, there are some things that look great and other things I’m very skeptical about. I love shoes and boots, my hubby calls me Imelda. I’m a bit concerned about the finish especially where the sole joins the uppers, it looks shoddy but I would ask if it was meant to look like that. The other thing that I’d be concerned about is that the edges of the leather aren’t burnished properly, in fact, they aren’t burnished at all.
I’d send them back personally. I don’t think they are $200 boots and certainly not $300.
I do apologise for this as I’d be devastated if someone wrote this about an expensive pair of boots. I think my most expensive boots were £120 and I almost had palpitations spending that on boots. My philosophy is always buy great quality, but in the sale!

Theresa Rene 360 I’m glad you are sending them back. While I might tolerate a bit of discomfort on a cheaper pair that I love I wouldn’t in a $200 pair. Not that I’d spend that lol I hope you get a refund quickly. Xx

Those very may well be the ugliest boots I've ever seen, so we have different tastes in footwear, T. However, that weirdness with the sole is a deal breaker. It looks cheap and like a bad manufacturing run. I wouldn't spend $4.99 for that disaster.
Hi Theresa, I think the distressing is on purpose and not that they were worn or defective. I think that is just the nature of the design. I think though if they hurt your foot then I would send back promptly. But overall I liked them. TFS:)

I really did like the boots, they were boots that I would wear but when there is something inside protruding out and stabbing you in the foot, (that’s a defect) and you needed to return them
These boots are not to my taste...but if they were, they are definitely not worth $200 plus dollars. If there is ANY discomfort, at that price point, send them back.
Hi Tish - I loved the edgy style, but decided to return them for a couple of reasons. I could not get past the price for the quality, and i just won't wear any shoes/boots that hurt me feet. At least now I know :)

Have you gone to a store that carries Freebird and actually put hands and eyes on their quality? The one I have seen always seem to be "chabby Chic" and a bit rough, which is the look they are going for. But the pain tops everything!

The boots are so stylish, and they look great on you Theresa, but for over $200 they should be very comfortable so you can enjoy wearing them. As good looking as they are, if they hurt cause you pain you won’t be able to appreciate them. I’d send them back if that’s the case. I’m also unsure, like you are are, if the visible “flaws” are intended or not. 🤷🏻♀️ Overall they are super cute though!

Hi Osceola! I ordered the boots online. It looks like they have a handful of brick & mortar stores - mostly in Colorado. I LOVE the edgy vibe of these boots - but sadly I will be returning them. I just can't do uncomfortable footwear. I love the "idea" of these boots, just not the way they feel on.

I would send them back if I were you. The style is beautiful, but it hurts your foot, it's not worth it Also you mentioned that they were made in Mexico and you could smell the leather, that's not good I on e bought a leather purse in Mexico that smelled like that hoping the smell would go away. It never did I ended up donating it. Smelled to much like a cow! Also, I noticed that the leather straps that go around the ankle are almost touching the ground on one of them.

Too bad about the ankle discomfort. I wouldn't keep them either if they hurt. I have to wear shoes or boots with good arch support, or I buy orthotics to insert so they'll be more comfortable. For $200.00 on sale, they should have been more form fitting.
