Tecovas Boots | Extend The Life of Your Cowboy Boots

  • Living here in Nashville, Tennessee, we get customers bringing in cowboy boots all of the time for repairs. While boots are not much different than many other leather soled shoes, we all tend to be a bit rougher with our boots than with our dress shoes. With that being said, adding thin, rubber sole protectors (or sole savers) to your boots is a GREAT way to prolong the life of your soles. In this video, we add a pair of sole protectors to a brand new pair of Tecovas boots that a customer brought in to us.

    You have no idea how much this video about sole savers has changed my life. I live in a country where it rains 7 to 8 months on a row (Costa Rica) and my boot soles have suffered so much. After your video I had all my boots put a rubber sole protector and now I can wear any pair all year round without being afraid of messing up my soles

    Glad to have seen this, working on getting a pair of Tecovas while I work out the sizing, and here in Michigan with all the wet weather, leather soles as good as they look are a joke for daily wear. Nice to know there is a thin option like this as lack of rubber soles was something that made me hesitate on the Tecovas initially

  • @joshuasteele4498
    @joshuasteele4498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very pragmatic advice.
    An excellent idea for any re-sole jobs that you send to your local cobbler is to spend the extra few dollars and have them put these on, as a finish to the job.
    Your new sole will easily last 2-3x longer.

    I love your video's and if you have only one pair of boots I can see this being a good option but for me I have multiple pair of boots and shoes and tend to rotate. I rarely wear the same shoe twice in the same week. I don't think I would ever do this. But keep making the video's.

    Ropers are kind of a thing with pilots - I just stepped up to Tecovas last month after 6 years and two pairs of Justins. For all three the first thing I did was put on the sole protectors - I wouldn't call my work heavy work but I do wear these every day I'm at work and sometimes that means rain and a wet ground. And yes - I've had the Tecovas for a little over a month and they're a fantastic value.

    Tecovas boots are a great value brand, but the soles do not last. I wore through a pair I wore 1x/week in a year. Now I’m staring down a $150-200 recrafting on a $400 pair of boots. That’s a serious premium on one year of wear

      They (the Topy brand to be exact) can last you at least two years if you wear them 3-5 times a month and walk no more than 2 miles per wear. Without protectors, the soles start thinning out and becoming flimsy in less than a year with the same amount of wear. You wear that any longer you'll start boring holes in them.

Ultimately, I have never tried it before but I strip and dye leather dress shoes as a hobby and I can say that leather is tough. It comes down to what you are willing to live with really.
      One thing you can do, being as careful as you see fit not to ruin the potential dye job on the outsole, is using acetone to "loosen" the dried glue and then wipe it off.
      Keep in mind you can always just use a thin layer of glue for the sole savers in the first place, meaning any remaining glue will be kept at a minimum.

    Don't do this to your boots. Just collect several pairs, so you can rotate them. Looked like he just destroyed the beautiful sole of the boot. Made me cringe.

      saleem waheed As two guys that live in boot country and own a number of pairs of boots ourselves, sole protectors are a good way for those who can’t buy several pairs, or want to save money on resoles, to prolong the life of their boots. As we remind our customers, nothing destroys those beautiful soles more than asphalt and just daily wearing them. 😉 We get your point though. Good boots are definitely a thing of beauty, and a big part of that is their leather soles. 👍🏻
