I had a roommate who had an American wolfdog, and that dog was awesome. It was huge, and super friendly. He really bonded to me for some reason. When my roommate moved to a different town the dog showed up at my house a few days later, and that's where he stayed.

And Czech wolfdogs too. They actually have Coyote ancesters instead of Wolf ones because the first offspring from caucasic wold and GSD were 100% wolf in character and very ugly and small in size and looks.
The program used an injured Coyote Female just to try because she was a very noble and confident individual as well as a huge one for being a Coyote. New generations have wolf blood, but they are usually the higer content ones and they give up on the character for the size and looks.

I had a multi-gen North American wolfdog growing up. Let's just say I was laughing REALLY hard when she talked about personality traits.
Kira was amazing. But no one would ever described her as a "good dog".
If I went to a friend's house without her she would get irritated with me she would eat ONLY the cover of the book I was currently reading and leave it in the yard for me to find it.
I had to buy a few library books because of that. 😂

I agree. You should have a country home for them with open range bottom land and lots of woods as will. My friend has a place like that for his 15/16 Wolf and he likes it. Plus if he has another K-9 to run with adds to their enjoyment of life.

    • @neganrex5693
      @neganrex5693 ปีที่แล้ว

@@alexmaclean1 My friends 15/16 Timber Wolf plays with my Bullmastiff with no problem and he don't eat their Cat but he has grown up as a cub around them and don't look at them as a threat or food plus he is great around his kids and my grandkids. Even my friends Goats and Cat is part of his pack. He is hell on Chickens and Ducks but nobody is perfect. They did bring in a new pup and he seems to like it to and adopted it into the pack. The only problem my friend sees is Dog food is not much in the way of his diet program the Wolf himself has sit. He gets raw meat from the butcher so he does cost a deal to feed. He said think God he only eats 40 pounds of meat 10 pounds of Dog food mixed in a week in 25 pounds at a time feeding so like a wild Wolf he don't want to eat everyday.
If you ever do get one and you live in town or city make sure you have a big back yard with a Wolf proof fence to keep him in with a Dog he can play with. Make sure when it is feeding time he is alone. That is very important for the health of your other pets and make sure he has raw meat or he will add your GSD and others to his diet program. They my have some Dog in them but they are still a Apex predator at heart.

I knew someone who had a white wolf "Snowy", he traveled with working the Motorcycle Rally Circuit selling patches and sewing them on.
Simply amazing animal, incredible to look into their eyes, can't explain the sense of intelligence. Snowy was getting on in their years, and after four years of interaction with them I later heard and read in a local motorcycle publication, Snowy had passed. Really took a toll on him as Snowy was loyally at his side nearly always. Such a massive animal, yet so gentle. He had quit vending I heard after the passing, but after a time got a high level wolf mix "pup".

My first husky mix was extraordinarily wolfy. In fact, I related to pretty much everything you mentioned about the American Wokfdog's behaviour ( my nose hurt as I listened 😜), and although he never fought over food, it took me about half an hour to teach him to let me be with him the first time I fed him bones. One of his sons would be my shadow, and more than cautios with strangers. I met one that had three diffrent homes during his first two years, and it definetely hatmed him. These are all precious, delicate animals that requiere socialization, strength, and commitment. Thank you for these wonderful videos.

    Fantastic video!
Couple of notes regarding CsV though:
    1. It was not developed in 1955, this was only the year when Karel Hartl brought the idea of adding wolf blood into German shepherd working lines to enhance their abilities. First crosbreeding began in 1958 (Brita x Cézar z Bězového Háje), and the hybrids were not considered as CsV wolfdogs back then. First dogs labeled as czech wolfdogs (later Czechoslovakian wolfdogs) were pups of F3 (Alena z PS) x F4 (Lex z PS) hybrids in 1962, and only in 1966 Karel Hartl developed the standard of the new breed. And this was still far from "developed breed." I would argue that the final point of development was the recognition by FCI in 1999.
    2. While the process started in Libejovice, Czechia, the breeding in Czechia ended in 1971 and the breeding program was moved and led by Frantisek Rosik in Malacky, Slovakia - so it would be correct to say that it was developed by Czechoslovakian army, not Czech solely.
    3. German shepherd look (long ears for instance) in general is a disqualifying trait, if you want to breed your CsV, as this is contradicted to standard. I personaly wouldn't include these CsVs as representatives, as deviations from standard are part of every breed.

Well, i had no clue that the American WolfDog even existed. So there goes my goal of being able to distinguish a wolf from a dog... They´re indistinguishable, at least to me. I love the Czechoslovakian WolfDogs like the ones you own, i think they are more elegant looking, not sure if they´re my favourite, but they´re great.
But with all of this, i got extremely curious to see the complete footage of the American WolfDog. Is it already available, or will it be soon?

I love wolf dogs and if I ever have the space and Time am sure to own one... but for now I can only dream as they are not easy to keep and need special attention... I love to also watch TH-camr 1st508th Airborne.. you saw Kurgan his bluebay Shepard in the American wolf dog clip... he also is one of the lycan Shepard breeders... his channel is very educational on how to raise such breeds with proper socialisation... loved this Video - Thank you :)

I didn’t expect her to mention the lycan shepherd since it’s still in the beginning stages of the breed.

I'm really surprised the Australian Lykos Dog wasn't on either list, as I'd say they are the same, if not more, wolf like than a Tamaskan. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't heard of them ☺️

I’m surprised that she didn’t mention the Australian dingo and the dingo/domestic dog cross breeds. They are feral and live as wolves. Their coats may be tawny but body shape wise they are very wolffish, from their erect ears, long snouts, massive teeth and almond eyes.

I had a red female german shepherd (maybe more like Belgian Tervueren) mix, and her coat was thick in winter, and then in summer she looked almost like half her size, as if in winter I had a bear-dog and in summer a sighthound. She also had yellow, almond-shaped, eyes as a puppy, and amber-orange as a grown-up dog, and small, wolf-like ears, but with longer hair.

What Tamaskans place that low in content? All of the Tams I know came back embarked closer to 20-30%.

What about the Alaskan Noble Companion Dog?? Which has no wolf in it, but often looks exactly like a wolf, especially the black ones.
