This song is sung as beautifully and warm, that it touches my heart for real, and it is beautiful itself too; it`s pity that many don`t do beautiful things instead of spreading irrational deep fears, torturing each other, choking in selfishness, hatred and prejudice, and atc. Voices that carry this song are blessing to my soul, and I believe many others too. Thank you kind ones!
@AlexderFranke I love Ireland wit all me heart. I know how to speak some Irish Gaelic. For all of ya who are passionate about yar Irish heritage for we Irish Americans and even natives, we should come togeter and learn our native tongue and bring it back! God Bless
know this tune from Gerry O´Connor on the fiddle. This version however has grown on me this last week and I´ve found myself singing it whenever outdoors and in the face of Nature. Thank you for posting. It is beautiful. Gives good memories of Ireland..
Coming from Kerry in Ireland, we always spoke of "Scots Gaelic" when speaking of the native Scottish language. If you were, say, a dyed-in-the-wool hardcore speaker of Donegal Irish, you'd understand a fair bit of Scots Gaelic whereas it's a completely different twang to Kerry Gaelic or Irish.
An-aoibhinn! It is a shame that the Gaelic languages have declined so much. In Ireland, they have had a historical chance to reverse the fate of Irish Gaelic during the upcoming of the homerule mouvement. Why on earth did they not make use of this historical chance as did the Jews in Israel!? This is music! Down with the fucking rock- and popmusic.

Gaelic language is spoken in Scotland. Irish in Ireland. Related but not the same. Confusing. I wonder why this CD uses the word "Gaelic" with the choir being from Ulster?
Mike MacDavy This is pure Ulster Irish. I speak it, and I can sing this song. But I don't speak Scots Gaelic, although I understand it a little, as it is related to Irish.
Mike MacDavy "Gaelic" refers to the gaelic language family (Manx, Irish and Scots). Althought it is vague to not state the country of origin, the languages are linguistically related.
I wish they wouldn't. It's fierce confusing. Irish is the language in this one. I wish the Scottish would call their Scottish too. A cultural bomb, that word Gaelic instead of Irish or Scottish!
The word for the native language in Ireland is and always was Gaeildhige , pronounced Gaelic in Donegal Irish , Gaeilge in Connemara and Gaolainn in Kerry. So Gaelic , to the people singing and indeed to the song writer would be the correct term for the language and not Irish.
This is one of Ireland's greatest poems and songs in Irish.
I love this version and it is also so helpful to have the words on the screen.
Grand job!
