  • In this video, we go over starting, navigating and operating the TBM 930 in FS2020. Our flight takes us over Northern Egypt and several of the sights along the way. Attention is paid to the avionics as well as some of the engine and autopilot quirks/bugs. Checklist: docs.google.co...

    To everyone flying the TBM, install Working Titles G3000 - it's so much better; you get fuel ranges, range to altitude, dimmable screens, ect. Link is to current release 0.2.1: github.com/Working-Title-MSFS-Mods/fspackages/releases/tag/g3000-v0.2.1

    I find on approach, I tend to come in at about 95 kts with a single notch of flaps until I hit short final. That tends to keep the plane on the glide slope and the extra air speed helps counteract any wind that might be present and maked the descent much smoother. When I'm about 1-2 miles out from the runway, I'll drop my second notch of flaps and reduce my speed to 85 kts to bring it in for a nice smooth landing.

      At 85 knots with two notch of flaps is definitely an issue to keep the nose pointing down. I usually approach also at 90-95 for the purpose, and slow down toward the end.

    Have 100 hours in this plane since November. Really enjoy how versatile it is. Between 930, Citation Longitude, and Savage Carbon I’m able to do all of the flying I love with just 3 planes.

    Two great mods for the TBM - one fixes torq and other performance issues. The other adds and fixes parts of the G3000 (the map button works for instance). Used the TBM for my global tour.

    That doc is FANTASTIC! I'd like to find something like that for the DA62 as that's become "my plane" in FS2020. I just love that plane. It's always my go-to.

    Torque goes up because you stopper the inertial separator. Also you fuel efficiency probably went up (less gph)

    You can set the first stage of flaps at 178 knots I believe, helps the plane slow down faster.

    Another issue with the weather is excessive sensitivity to the "gust" setting. Even in the Neo a 5 knot wind rocks and rolls the aircraft excessively!

  • @helge000
    @helge000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    P Gatcomb - thanks, I really enjoy your FS2020 videos! A small issue, because I've noticed it a few times already: The white band on the airspeed indicator is for flaps in landing config. The TBM's t/o config flap speed is 178kts (actually, you can read the sticker on the door to the left :)

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Takeoff/Approach flaps can be used up to 178. Landing flaps max speed is 122. Lots of airplanes are setup this way. Even the basic Cessna 172 has a similar setup with the first notch of flaps being used above the white arc.

  • @ottopilot6536

    That guy in front of you on the runway at takeoff was definitely a real player and not live traffic or AI. You would have seen him on your MFD's map if it was a computer aircraft.

    • @SectionNyne
      @SectionNyne 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had live traffic show up on my MFD map. In fact just a short while ago, I saw a couple of planes on my MFD map and heard calls to and from them in ATC and when I checked in flightradar24 they showed up. Mind you, in flightradar24 they were shown as about 50NM further along in their flights, but they had the same call signs and were flying the same routes at the same altitudes.
      It's not common, but it does happen.

    • @ottopilot6536
      @ottopilot6536 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SectionNyne "Live Traffic" is AI. Only based on real world traffic. What he was wondering in the video was whether it was "AI / Live" or a real person. Real people, you don't see on your map or hear their communications with the tower. Only Live / AI traffic.
      That's what I meant by my comment.

    That’s why you should use the mods , because it fixes it so that the torque goes down when you climb higher

    You should show us a close view of the instruments, like when we press Ctrl + 1, 2 etc... if you say “I will press that button for 2s and you don’t show us, we kind of feel a little lost. Since english is not my mother language I feel more comfortable when I can see what you are doing.

    Hello and thank you! This is by far the best tutorial I’ve seen on this complex aircraft. The step up from a piston Cessna to this is huge. I’m having an issue with getting the plane to climb on takeoff. I’ve checks trim, can pull my yoke full back after waiting well into the 80s but it won’t lift. It normally goes right off the runway. If there’s a drop I can almost get like an aircraft carrier launch and pull my gear and then flaps and eventually get some lift. I’ve been watching the gauges since your video and have no longer me been smashing it to full but still having a problem. Once I get it up and speed stabilized it’s fine but the lift off isn’t happening. Any idea what I’m maybe missing? I’ve downloaded the performance mods hoping that would help. It’s my favorite plane so I’m very disappointed that what is normally a formality is making it too risky to use. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong & would be grateful for any advice.

      What speed are you trying to climb out at? You should try to be climbing out at Vy. But to me it sounds like a sim issue on your end, try uninstalling and re-installing the game. It takes a while but if its your fav aircraft then its worth the wait! I hope I could help.

    I enjoy your videos and find them very helpful. Not being a real pilot, I find it difficult to keep up with you since you speak quickly and do a lot of jumping around when clicking on buttons. I’m hoping to learn enough to keep up with you soon. Thanks for the hard work.

    Small addition from one of your students :-) You forgot to mention that the torque also goes up as soon as you turn off the inertial separator, as the engine then gets more air. After turning off the inertial seperator I always pull back a little on the throttle. There's by the way a mod to fix the wrong torque behaviour you mention, made by PositiveZero. forums.flightsimulator.com/t/tbm-930-fixes/260687

    Want to display IFR plates in Flight Simulator? Works great in the TBM. Use the SkyVector tool from the dropdown menu at the top of the Microsoft Flight Simulator screen.
    Not sure if you are familiar with SkyVector (skyvector.com/). Right-click to display to see the IFR plates, SIDs, and STARs. Flight planning is also good.
    Drawyah has a TH-cam video explaining the “msfs2020-toolbar-window-template” plug-in (th-cam.com/video/JdyXy-vfn9k/w-d-xo.html).
