    Dick Williams knew they were overmatched, during the pregame interview he made a couple references about being way down while talking about the starting pitching. The whole body language of that team was one of being happy to just be there.

    I never noticed that Morris didn't pause very long when pitching from the stretch. Nowadays that would be a balk.

    Scully’s story about Reggie Jackson giving Champ Summers his nickname, though entertaining, is incorrect. It was Summer’s dad who started calling him Champ.

    In his book the late Dick Williams said that one thing he learned during the World Series was to have fun and he did that night. The WWF was in town and they must have been staying in the same hotel because Williams said he and a few others in the Padres official party had a great time Saturday night eating and drinking with the wrestlers.
