I was there. So many things I forgot about this game. Except.. the pain. It all worked out in end. All those other series when we lacked pitching. We had it now.
Howser managed the 9th inning like a complete bozo. He let Leibrandt, who had already thrown 120 pitches, face four straight right handed batters. When he had Dan freaking Quisenberry ready to go. Crazypants.
@@rollo131 He was in a tough spot. Quiz... wasn't good in the ALCS and got touched up in Game 1 the night before. Perhaps the Cardinals wouldn't have touched him as they hadn't seen him before but his confidence has flagged. Probably no different than the Mets letting Matt Harvey try and finish off 2015 Game 6 against Kansas City.

Charlie is such a beast of a pitcher, but never looks happy lol. He almost looks confused sometimes. Go Royals
Now and days, no one would leave Charlie Leibrandt there that long, especially if its his game to win or lose.
A Kirby Puckett-Dave Winfield combined in one moment for Liebrandt on the top of the 9th. At least he was able to get World Series ring at the end.
Why didn't Dick Howser put in Quisenberry in and take out a tiring Liebrandt?
